The Novation Circuit series is a really cool one. Like many devices, some of the features do take a little bit of digging to find. I listed the 20 features of the Circuit Monostation you need to know to get the most out of it.

You should try the TherapSID. You like the analogue synths and the therapsid is a c64 sid chip based box (it has 2 slots for 2 sid chips) and sounds awesome 8 bit full analogue. Nothing compares to it and its built quality is second to none. The 2 sids can be driven by different midi channels. It would be fantastic to see a video where you use it along with the mono station and the circuit or circuit tracks.

I just bought a Mono Station, it's a very cool gear. But I'm under the impression that the two oscillators are not completely independent. What I mean is that when I press a note on Osc 1 Note page (pink), I still hear Osc 2 ringing at the same time (simple test: you can hear that by holding the note an turning the Osc 2 knob in the Mixer: the sound changes. If only Osc 1 was triggered, then I would be hearing no change). The same happens when the notes are sequenced, and the same goes for Osc 2 Note page (green) when Paraphonic mode is on. My impression is that both tracks control _by default_ the two oscillators at the same time BUT when a note is triggered at the same time on the two tracks, then the note on the first track goes to Osc 1 and the note on the second track goes to Osc 2. But when you have only one note at some step in either track 1 or track 2, then that note goes to the 2 oscillators at the same time. Am I right? If that's the case, then labeling the two tracks as "Osc 1" and "Osc 2" is kind of a misleading choice. Often, that's usually what you want to have a sound with more depth, but in some occasions it leads to some voice stealing when you want to sequence two different melodies.

In design a paraphonic synth doesn’t really assign one sequencer to a single oscillator. It’s more in the concept of Note 1 and Note 2. But that is also wrong because they don’t have separate controls. It still a paraphonic synth.

Great video. I love my Circuit, but the mono station doesn’t seem to get the same love from the synth community. I don’t know why though because as your video demonstrates, it’s a deceptively powerful synth.

The portability perhaps ?

Nu-Trix The Synth Guy yeah that’s true. I think a lot of people were waiting a circuit pro or mk2 with sampling capabilities etc., rather than a mono synth

I can relate. But for analogue synth sequencing the Circuit Monostation is hard to beat!

Interesting video. I am sorely tempted to get one of these. I do have a question before I do so though. Can you store specific LFO rates on specific steps in the Modulation sequencer. Say I have this bassline and I want a certain number of wubs on one step but then a different number of wubs on a different step. Can I sequence that so the LFO rate/number of wubs stays the same on specific steps no matter what notes I play? So basically, what I'm asking is, can the Monostation Dubstep?
@Nu-trix
@Nu-trix 5 лет назад
+Dino Goldie i don’t have access to a monostation anymore. So, I can’t test it, but I’m guessing it could because all the panel parameters can be automated.
@RadekPilich
@RadekPilich 4 года назад
The rate can be sequenced. For some reason, the LFO Wave shape cannot be automated, but with Patch Flip that came out in 1.2 firmware, you can step sequence anything by changing patches.

You can change the playback rate for a pattern, so you should be able to program a pattern at "half speed" and then set double steps to the notes you want to ratchet. Seems like a pain to program, but if you record your pattern real-time, (with the seq. running at double-speed) you can go in and program the ratchets afterwards.

can someone please tell me how to dim the terrible led light pads..
@Nu-trix
@Nu-trix 5 лет назад
On page 67 of the Manual it is written : Settings View is provided to allow “global” unit settings to be made: these include MIDI I/O configuration, clock source selection and brightness adjustment. It is entered by holding down Shift while powering the unit on. Exit Settings View by pressing Play. Brightness Pad 24 (illuminated white) controls the brightness of the grid pads. The default setting is for full brightness, but pressing Pad 24 dims them by approximately 50%. This can be of benefit if you are running Circuit on batteries. You may also wish to run with reduced brightness if performing in conditions of low ambient lighting. The brightness setting is saved when Circuit is powered down.

How do I live record a pattern longer then 16 steps with this thing? You're my last hope Nu Trix
@Nu-trix
@Nu-trix 3 года назад
One pattern can only go up to 16 steps. You can put up to 8 patterns in a row for a 124 steps sequence. That is it.

Chain patterns together in the pattern view. Press and hold the first and the last pattern you want to chain together. You can only play them in the order they are arranged in the pattern view, but you can copy/paste to re-organize them as you wish. If you run out of space while rearranging, copy patterns over to the slots for the mod matrix (orange) for temporary storage. You can create even longer patterns by reducing the playback rate for a pattern in the pattern settings view. This works really well for stretched out long notes that you record real-time. The options for playback rates includes a few triplets modes too, wich is cool but confusing if you don't know about it.

@@JH-lo9ut this comment should be stickied at the top. once you figure out how to duplicate patterns, the true fun begins. could you explain triplets? 32 steps at a slow tempo? Similar to micro steps on the og circuit?

Hi. I have just purchased the circuit mono and drumbrute but im having troubles syncing them together through 3.5mm jacks. Any idea how? . Seems like the circuit play double the bpm of the drumbrute
@Nu-trix
@Nu-trix 5 лет назад
It’s not a surprise. They are many different type of analog sync. You will have to search into both devices to see if you can find a common sync value.
@ilovemusic0023
@ilovemusic0023 5 лет назад
So after hours of trying to sort this out. Still not there. I've set both hardware to 24ppqn. Rx, switched on, tx off (blue buttons) clock out (drumbrute) , clock in (circuit mono). Press play and mono station is yn sync but still plays double the spped3, if not more. So i change rx off and tx on. Clock out (circuit) into clock in (drumbrute). I chnged the setting on the drumbrute to clock source. All sync, i can change the tempo on the mono station, and the tempo of the drumbrute changes with it. But... it wont stop and start the drumbrute from pressing play
