I ran out of my blood pressure medication and decided to try avocadoes and garlic and oats in my daily diet. My blood pressure dropped lower than with the meds. I feel a lot better now and don't even have to take the added pills the doctor prescribed to protect my organs from all the pills I'm on. Let food be thy medicine!
Dietary changes to control diabetes, high blood pressure, and cholesterol is usually preferable to taking prescription meds. Drug makers do not like it, but it is the patient who must endure the side affects. Prescription drugs can save lives, but food is the best medicine.
I was rushed to hospital with life threatening low potassium last week, and spent two days on a drip. This was caused by a broken pelvis. This information on potassium has been very helpful to me so thank you
My husband has completely stopped eating potatoes, avocado, tomatoes and bananas and it has helped a lot with maintaining a healthier potassium level for his kidneys.
Lisa I LOVE avocado as well, used to eat one almost every day, till they went from 50 cents to a buck and a quarter just because they can charge as much as they want to for food now. I will not pay more than a buck for an avocado. And I resent even that. I see Walmart has them back at 68 cents, so I am going to start eating them more. In fact I like your whole list of foods there, and would add baby carrots steamed or roasted, can't get enough onions either though they have more than tripled in price, from like 79 cents to $2.98 per pound.
This is very helpful. My father is battling two forms of lung cancer, and he gets dehydrated everyday requiring two bags of saline after his treatments. He is not drinking the recommended sports drinks, and his wife is at her wits end. I am heading up in a few days to help take care of him, and this video helps me know the right foods to prepare for him to keep his potassium level up, thank you.
You're welcome. Thank you for your comment. Obtaining the right amount of nutrients is difficult enough without the added demands on the body brought about by illness especially cancer.
Sports drinks are no good. To much sugar. Get him some quality electrolytes mixed with good water. Give him a swallow every 15 minutes. As he ups that they will wean him off all that salty water. I am not a doctor. Good luck and GOD BLESS.
I weight trained for years and never knew potassium plays a huge role in muscle repair. Recently I have muscle aches that don't go away in my forearm, I stopped working out for months, returned with light weights soreness is still there. I'm going to eat more potassium and see what happens. Great video!
Go for blood check, May be you have high blood potassium and high potassium levels give you mussels pain and give you heart failure,so high is more dangerous so please go for blood check,
You need 4700mg of potassium per day. I went below that and ended up in the ER. My heart was pounding almost out of my chest. If you are on diuretics, you will around 5000mg. Green leaves are high in potassium with the added benefit of magnesium. Thanks for the beet green info, I will add them in my diet. I subbed. You are very good with all the information.
Thank you for sharing your experience. Potassium and sodium both are essential. The actual daily requirement for potassium will very by individual and their diet. Low levels of potassium and sodium can cause serious health issues.
Pinanuod ko tlaga hanggang matapos ang video dahil mababa po ang potassium ng anak kong 6 yrs.old..lalo nat kakagaling lang niya sa raptured appendicitis..nice video👍👍👍
This video is so so well done. Subscribed half way through. I can eat beans, bananas, peanuts and raw carrots seven days a week literally! I'll add lentil soup to that. Maybe that helps explain why my blood pressure has been the lowest normal for so any years at 90/60. Many people gasp at that but don't wake me up, I am happily healthy especially since in my large family, most of them have up to 200 systolic blood pressure and drop dead from it. I need to watch this video again.
You need some blood pressure for your heart to pump blood around your body. The whole point about blood pressure is that it can be an indication of hardening of your arteries caused by a crap diet, boozing, smoking and being a fat slob or other issues with your heart itself meaning the heart which is a pump is impaired meaning imminent stroke of heart attack.
Go for blood check , high potassium also give you muscle pain and heart and kidney problems so please go for blood check for metabolic and electrolytes checked so please please please--- go for blood check I
I'm new to the channel on 6-29-22 at 6:50 pm Florida time I'm glad I seen this channel because I needed to knows what I can eat that have Potassium in it because I care to much about Banana now I eat it's in cereal or banana bread just being honest about the banana Bread L.o.l but any way as I was looking at All that's have Potassium in it I'm going to buy thems, because I'm tired of taken these Large Pills for Potassium but I'm doing my Lab works to see how it's is but as of now I'm going to buy these Fruits in vegetables for my Diet in Health Thank u for the Video
Suzanne: Tired of supplies? Olive oil is by far the easiest way to keep potassium in balance with salt in the body. I get charlie horses when my potassium gets low, so I consume 1/3 cup dokie oil distributed in my god during each week. If I am in a hurry, I simply drink a couple of tablespoons instead of putting it in food after cooking. Olive oil has a lower combustion point than cooking oils and can cause pan fires as a cooking oil. Also, regular consumption of olive oil is a preventative of arthritis.
There are a number of high potassium foods that didn't make it into the video. There may be a High Potassium Foods Part II. Your nutrition values are correct for large lima beans. One cup of baby lima beans has 229 cal, 15 g protein, and 730 mg of potassium. For maximum potassium eat large lima (butterbeans) beans. Thank you for your comment.
BEST greens have the most potassium of all things, 1 cup equals 1,700 mg.'s it is very bitter yes, but I add them to my salads, or gently steam adding vinegar, s, pepper an a (lil of my favorite. Monk fruit) cuts the bitterness. Yes potatoes w/ skin also avacodo is another great choice. Don't forget magnesium as well, fish n oysters provide zinc to help our immune system, potassium , magnesium, and vit C ( raw bell peppers VC we need it. I've always loved beet greens. I leave them in the ground all winter, covered with straw- the tops peek out and grow during warmer spells. I also keep a few growing on the window sills. Especially yummy with homemade tomato sauce :)
I have tried other greens and find them revolting, but I am willing to try beet greens, maybe I will love them also. How do you cook them? I guess I can Google recipes.
@@markwalker3499 beet greens are really delicious. I know it’s not the healthiest but I love to stir fry it with a little bacon. They steam well too. Too bad the markets don’t sell the leaves with the beets
I had a mild heart attack due to low potassium, last year my elderly aunt passed away because she refused to take the liquid potassium her MD prescribed to her. It's that important.
A few years back i got on a low carb diet. I didn't understand nutrition and what i needed to eat to be healthy. I was a very healthy weight but felt terrible. I then fell off the wagon and gained weight back. Even though i was heavier i felt better. Now im doing low carb again and am focused on getting proper nutrition such as potassium. Ive lost 15 and still have 19 pounds to lose but i feel better than ever. Getting the proper nutrition is key to health
All i need is some potatoes and sweet potatoes and i get all the potassium easy. Its the benefit for eating healthy of all kind of healthy foods unlike trash diets like low carb where you diss healthy fruits, potatoes, sweet potatoes, quinoa etc away.
Excellent video ! To add re potatoes : Best eaten by putting a baked potato in fridge overnight, changing its molecular structure from a starch to a resistant starch (becoming a prebiotic, similar to fibre), drastically lowering the net carb count, while being good for gut health as well.
03/17/2018 Thank you so much for the very informative, colorful & appealing video!! I'm trying to change my diet. I'm 60. Age tends to catch up with us & not able to eat so unhealthily, as when younger ... which has lead me to being 100 lbs overweight. Plus feeling fatigued much of the time, as well as aches/pain in my joints, etc. My diet was atrocious, skipping meals & eating junk food 90% of the time. I'm trying to cut out sugar/salt ladden foods. No fast, prepared, packaged, bakery etc, foods. No canned goods w/high sodium, etc. A lot of changes. A lot less Diet Mt. Dew. I could drink a liter a day. Now I have water 90% of the time. Anyway, now I eat lots of salads, fruits, veggies, etc. but limit my sweets. I'm going to try the red beet greens. Have a blessed day!! 😉
@Jesus, it sounds like you're really on the right track! I bet you'll be back on here soon telling us how much weight you've lost and how much better you feel!
I am a Type 1 Diabetic , my fasting blood sugar came to 186 and fasting insulin came to 226. Can't understand how that is possible. Thanks. Please keep up the good work.
Thanks for this great video! I try to get my potassium from food instead of supplements. I was told by a pharmacist that potassium supplements can cause irreparable damage to the heart.
Too much potassium can cause heart damage. It is easier overdosing taking supplements. That is one reason potassium supplements are limited to less than 100 mg.
Even death! I was also strongly advise not to take potassium supplements if my levels are normal as it could cause a heart attack. Just to do a diet an include more green veggies. All the best , be safe,
I've always heard that Kiwi Fruit is much higher in nutrients than just about any other fruit and is a more excellent source of potassium than bananas. It also has an incredible amount of vitamin C, more than oranges.
thanks. when you live in a developing country, and you are a pensioner who is not getting a pension, its hard and sometimes impossible to get all this nourishing food. i realized that my K level was low, i had numbness and pain in my fingers and toes, rapid heart beat, jerking of my hands, and I am on blood pressure medication; this video has shown me what i can eat plenty of while taking K supplements. Many thanks
Best so far. Others talk and talk about damages I already know before and during potassium food. here the small talk was litle, and directly to food was a reliefe. Thanks
Thanks for all the great, concise information! I have been gaining control of high blood pressure by the kinds of foods I eat. As long as I stick to it, my bp readings are great. I do avoid table salt, but use a bit of Himalayan on my rice stir-fried dishes. Thanks again...
Wow! Most of those food you mentioned are my everyday food, like raw carrots, banana, peanuts are my breakfast. Cooked potatoes with peel, salads with tomatoes & Salmon for lunch or dinner. Thanks for sharing your videos🙏
I've been trying to do Keto and also increase potassium without gaining weight. Very good information and ideas. It's very difficult to find a place that shows actual meals. Thank you
THANK YOU very much for this fact based and really "liveable" diet hints about fresh fish, food and vegetables and potassium needs!! Truly grateful for the advice and guidance to better eating and health!
If you are not allergic to coconut, coconut water is really high in potassium, but it's also high in sugar. You can also add some cream of tartar to a drink that's sweet (tea or coffee).
Coconut water is not only high in potassium (about 600 mg an 8 fl-oz, 240 ml serving), it also has about one-half the calories of sugar sweetened beverages.
What really irritates me is that I got sucked into different ways to eat, emitting certain types of food or food group, it's freaking crazy how misinformed majority of people are, too easily fooled into food dysfunctions. Glad I came across this as I too have been concerned on my intake of potassium w heart issues.
Potassium deficiency is so rare in the U.S., there is no RDA. Recommendation for adequate intakes for the U.S. is provided by the Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs) developed by expert committees of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM). Thank you for the compliment.
Minimally processed foods are the best source of essential nutrients including sweet fruit. They do not affect blood sugar like diets high in refined sugar and wheat processed foods.
Added this video to my favorites, will definitely watch more than once. The dishes are so healthy and colorful. I will add the beet greens and more avocado. Thank you.
Thank you for the compliment. The ratio depends on your health and source of information for daily potassium. It ranges from 1 gram of potassium to 1 gram of sodium (1:1) to 2:1. A Comprehensive Metabolic Panel blood test measures blood sodium and potassium levels.
I have two videos about low potassium foods: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tUSkdc5AsE4.html and ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4A7RQjaVtS8.html
American fast food was designed to provide very quick servings and a decent taste in spite of fat, sodium and preservatives. I started eating organic, planting my own food and using organic Greek yogurt, eggs or fish as a main source of protein. Eat reasonable amounts of fresh meats. My blood pressure is normal now from increasing potassium and decreasing sodium.. Be careful with potassium as an over load of it can put you in an ER and on dialysis due to kidney failure.
