These are some features that are hidden, or not as known in Sons of the Forest. Hope you find the video enjoyable! Feel free to share any features you've discovered.
no shit i actually got a little emotional the first time i saw virginias reaction to kelvin dying. idk if its true but when i get the hand gun, i always wait for the shark to turn to swim inland. he doesnt seem to be able to turn fast enough to get you. so i swim on his tail. maybe im just lucky lol.
For the love of all that is good, don't let Kelvin die in your base, that is, unless you want to hear Virginia wailing over his dead body every 30 sec.
it was sooo annoying... my kelvin got hit through the wall and glitched into it so i couldn't revive him even after removing everything that blocked it. it was so annoying that i really went into the save file to get him back. since i don't think his body would have ever despawned.
Yeah, I had the glitch where I couldn't revive him... Still trying to figure out how to manipulate my save file to revive him. The recent patch change how the save file works and the guide i found don't work anymore.
lol on my multiplayer game, Kelvin glitched through the mountains because apparently he wasn't supposed to go in a cave and he somehow did. XD Now he's forever stuck in the Himalayan mountain range. XD
Most simple way to get Virginia to be your friend is to completely ignore her. She came by 3 times while I was building my base and I completely ignored her, letting her just sit and watch me build. On the 4th time she came, she brought me aloe and I had the interact button with her.
Yeah… so I made the mistake of absolutely destroying her when I first met her. She popped out of a bush and scared the crap out of me while I was being attacked by cannibals, so I stabbed her with an axe 10 times
Fun Virginia Fact! Virginia's AI is more dynamic than most people know! If you equip her with the pistol and/or shotgun early in the game be sure to keep her protected from dying but have her actively engage in firefights with a variety of enemy types. The more battles Virginia participates in and the more kills she racks up the more efficient in combat she becomes. She will become much more accurate with her shots, and her posture towards enemies will become highly aggressive as opposed to the timid and skittish mutant she was at the beginning of the game.
My friends saw that and one of them just looked for 2 seconds said "oh wow they do that?" And just started wailing on the girl crying over her cannibal husband lmao I nearly died laughing
@@MSN--cq2rs I’ve had female cannibals from the same tribe that I kill around my base come around and be friendly, she takes like 1 log per day and we let her. and every time I see her approaching and I walk out to her, she actually waves at me almost every time and I think that’s pretty damn cool
Tips for clothing: Top meter is warmth, making it difficult to get cold Middle is comfort, higher = more energy regained when sleeping Bottom is waterproofing, making it more difficult to get wet.
At least 1 of these meters does not work, it doesn't matter unless I'm underground or within range of a camp fire I'm always wet and cold in the winter doesn't matter what I'm wearing, weather, or time of day, I've tried everything I can think of
@@DarkdancingX yeah but crap if it comes to wetness from snow sadly (so its not really a winter jacket more a feather jacket. Cause real winter jackets are waterproof.
I got the camo suit but can't find it in my inventory? Is it possible to pick it up multiple times or hold e on it to equip it straight from picking it up?
Tip for the stakes: You can put three rocks around the base of each stake stick to reinforce them and make them more durable so they don't get used up as easy.
That's the reason I gave her the pistol, saved, reload, and got myself my own pistol. At least one of us can hit a cannibal with the gun (hint: it ain't me lol)
There are multiple 3D printers across the map, some you can access without any special tools (ie the shovel as in the video) Lots of useful info here. Only thing I was unaware of was feeding the sharks. I'm guessing you can feed the orcas as well if you are brave (or stupid, chose your adjective) enough to get that close to them.
The pistol light doesn't have a battery meter, use it instead of the regular once you find it. Also the molotov puts off good light so as long as you don't throw it it'll keep burning.
Not many people know, but if you cut a log in half, you can use the half logs as support beams, that way you wont need any random logs in the middle of your base 🙂
Another handy feature is that you can KEYBIND any item in your backpack, when you open it with i simply mouse-over the item and press a key 1 through to 0 on your keyboard This means you don't have to rummage around in your pack while your friend is being mauled by half a dozen cannibals! Edit: Nearby the modern hatchet is a flashlight from a strung-up soldier that you have to cut down, it uses batteries to remain on, those get automatically used from your inventory when needed
Very important stuff missing in the video: - You can reinforce the stick defense with large stones so they stay a lot longer (forever?) Placing them very dense with multiple layers around the base kills almost everything trying to approach your base. (Including mutants, deer and birds lol) - If you hover over an item in your inventory you can assign quick select numbers 1-9 to them, just press the number while hovering over the item. - Every green circle is a 3D printer you don't need the shovel for them.
Great Video, thanks Just found out today, you can use the GPS Trackers as Map Marks. Slam a Stick in the Ground, equip the Tracker and place it on the Stick. You can even select different icons, as for example Food, X etc.
I didn't know the cross was actually functional in my playthrough. Luckily, the shotgun made easy work of the demons. I also had no idea there was a shark in the rebreather cave lol.
A feature I've not seen anyone using is angled bracing. When people build bases they have columns in the corner of every foundation. You can brace the ceiling with a shortened angled log from the wall to the ceiling opening up your floor space. The easiest way to do so I've found is you have to build with columns then place the angled logs then remove the columns.
Oh, are you talking about struts? The survival book has an entire page demonstrating how to do them, I would have thought people would be using them more.
Very good feature - less stress for videocard to show less logs and in general saves logs for other builds, requires less tree cutting and delivering to construction site.
@@liamnehren1054 From what I remember, the 3/4 struts are necessary if you're taking out two supports. I had an issue with trying to use the smaller ones before realizing there's two lengths. But, maybe it was just a bug, too.
Overall a good video and I learned some new things! (I had no idea about the radio, thanks!) But a few corrections and some additional information i want to add. 1: Burning demons - you can find a note inside the final cave saying "The cross burns demons", but it is never mentioned that these creatures are demons outside of this as far as I know. 2: Stick defense - surround the sticks with 3 rocks to make them permanent, they will only break if manually damaged by enemies, not by enemies taking damage from them. 3: Virginias location - she just wanders the map, but will come to you if you start building. Once she has met you once, she is rarely far away. 3a: Things that get her to like/trust you - Watching you build, you watching her dance, killing enemies she points at, eating out of your planters, sitting next to your campfire, not holding a weapon when she is close. (All of these can be ignored, but it will take her longer to like/trust you) 4: Get items out of inventory - you can hotkey items, just hover them in your inventory and press a number key. When you are not in your inventory, just press the hotkey and you will equip or use the hotkeyed item. 5: You can send logs on the ropeline - just set up a ropeline with the ropegun and attach a log to it, it will travel the full length and disconnect at the end, both up and down. Practical if your logging site is some distance from the build site. 5a: You can tell Kevin to place logs in log storage - if you have to many logs flopping around they will start to de-spawn (Rough estimate around 55-60 of them). 6: If a enemy damages a skull chandelier, they will break it and reduce it to a simple skull lamp instead. 7: Burning bodies - You can drop the dead cannibals on top of campfires to burn them, and this gives you their bones and skulls. 7a. With the bodies dead, you can chop of limbs to get arms, legs and heads to use as foods or to scare the living ones away. (Not the best food option, but works in a pinch.)
Anything RAW and green will give you small amount of health and food. Cooked and green will only give you food. I never use pills outside of caves, I get Kalven to get fish and eat raw to heal up. Takes about 10 fish after you die to get full health but watch out if you keep raw fish in your backpack, it WILL GO BAD "when in inventory you green/red marker" and take your stats down if you eat it! U can cook on a fire to make it good again, but it will only give you food, no health. You can start a fire on the dead bodies you cannot pick up to get the bones from them as well. If you leave the radio ON 24/7 at your base with some logs and food "planters" outside your walls for them to take, they more or less leave YOU, Kalven, and your base alone! No matter how many you have killed before. Some will even wave too you as they take the food/logs. Some will site at a fire or dance even.
If you're cold, you don't have to stop to hold the torch to stay warm. equip the torch, and go about your building. It'll continue to keep you warm, even though you're not actively holding it.
Don't forget about the 3D printer near the broken down golf carts that you don't need a shovel to access, also a key card will get you farther into the same shelter later on
For a tip with the stick defense, you can actually beef them up with rocks on the bottom. Just thought I would throw that out there. Great vid by the way. 👍
Don't forget to add 3 rocks to the stick defenses. It makes them far sturdier. Just hold the rock in your hand and look at it, and the slot outline will come up.
You can fortify the defense sticks by placing 3 rocks around each. I haven't seen them break yet but I'm sure if a later game mutant attacked them they may. Also with the sled, you can jump and then press the interact button while in the air and you'll hop into it midair. As there's no fall damage in the sled, it's a nice thing to have for getting down massive cliffs.
one thing i learned recently is that you can send FULL logs up and down a zipline. very helpful for gathering logs and getting them back to your base :)
Haven't yet got the game - but a neat trick I saw on a channel called Inner Outer Show (I think) - was that when located in any of the caves with water in (which there are several of, as I understand) - you can lure some of the enemies into the water - and they will die just because they cannot swim. This way you won't waste any bullets/arrows/.. on them. Thanks for the vid - greetings from Latvia.
Another feature about the sprinklers i found, i threw a molotov at the finger mutant thing in a maintenance tunnel, missed and the sprinklers went off and instantly killed the mutant
- Press a Door open and ram a Stick in the Ground next to it and it stay open. - You can build a Swimming Base, build it in the winter on the Ice and in the Rest of the Year it will swim on Water. - Place GPS and Tourches at Entrances of Caves you have already visit to keep track. - Build 2 fundament Boxes on Top of each other, then build your Base on top of several Towers and no Enemy can enter it (Kelvin/Virginia too). - Spikes do not break if you add 3 Rocks at each Spike Base (actual I would also recomend to play with no Struckture Damage). - You can place a Spike in each Fundament to ged rid of Enemys who Spawn or glitch inside. - You can carry more Cans, if you open 4. The Catfood canno't be stored in Shelves but it also not spoil. - The most easy Way to visit Caves it to wear a full Setof Leave Armor, have another in the Inventory, Sneak and use the Silenced Pistol or the Bow (no Laser, the Aim is bad, if you have enough Ammo I sugest the Pistol, because it is fast and more usefull against the Mutant Babys, no Explosives or you get the whole Cave alarmed) - If you want Kelvin to harvest Trees, work with him (you use the Axe, he carry), work faster - Place Trees you not can't add in the Storage vertical on the Ground (Like a Wall) and they will not despawn - You can trow Logs at a Log Holder and they will sort themself in, work ideal with a Zipline, where you can add Logs) to autostore them on the End - In the Club where A Guest has swallow a Guitar, you can get an own Guitar. To get it you need to save and load the Game after you have visit the Club and it will be on the Bar (it's maybe a Bug). The Guitar is a slow Melee Weapon, but a nice Collectible.
The 3D mask ive found to only be mildly useful. It will deter some of the cannibals early game if you equip it, but after that it doesnt work. though im not even sure it does that much as they will sometimes go away on their own when you come across them early on. There is another type of mask you can find later in the game that may be more useful but havent tested it.
What do you consider early game? I've just passed day 30, and I still use it to visit their camps and pick up things I need like rope and cloth etc.... Just can't open the boxes.
@@deronny2212 I stopped using it around day 7 or so. i will occasionally use it on single cannibals that show up in my camp later on, but its hit or miss when it works. i have been pretty aggressive in my play throughs with friends tho, so i dont know if that impacts how effective it is.
If you don't have enough resin for the sled yet, you can use the sea turtle shells they drop as a makeshift sled instead. Just keep in mind it's not as fast as the actual sled.
@@ArchiTheGreat Yeah, I tried it. That's what you could do in the old Forest but I guess this one hasn't added that yet (although it does have the shells.)
daym spent 1 whole day figuring how to bring one radio to the base lmao xd so Virginia can dance to it,this came in just in time thank you very much :D
Thanks for the video these tips are great. One thing I would like to add is that it really doesn't matter if you have a weapon out or not and you don't have to look for Virginia, she will come to you. That may have been updated since the video but I am not sure I just got the game.
another feature: how long you take to end the helicopter scene is where you crash. It slowly flies along the island and what it's over is roughly where you crash. Allowing you to choose your start point.
@@alessavandall61 funny It worked for me and I have seen people's streams where it worked. It might just up the probability or it's slightly glitched like a lot of things in the game right now.
Hi just like the first Forest you could use your rebreathers light as a light source out of the water all you needed to do was enter water with rebreather equipped the light turns on automatically upon light switching on exit the water..... Then before light fades out/switches off quickly enter then exit your inventory the rebreather light is now on constant and will help you navigate the dark caves... This hasn't been confirmed to my knowledge that it works here in SOTF but give it a go it might work no harm in trying!
Holy cow, thank you so much for this video. Deeply appreciate a lot of what you showed off. For the longest time, we've been building and using c to move our stuff around and it NEVER dawned on us to just... _use c_ on our tarp to remove it.
Instead of holding “I” to look at your backpack, you can bind things to your hot bar instead. If you hover over your axe for example and press 1, whenever you press 1 going forward you’ll equip it whenever you want. This game just doesn’t have a visible hot bar but it’s there.
There's also a cross in the bedroom bunker that leads too the demons area. You can also dismantle your tent by just jumping on it. To set a hotkey hover your mouse over an item in your inventory and hit the number key you want to set it too. If you want to place a marker on your map place a stick, upright, in the ground then open your inventory and "use" one of the GPS devices in the orange container, you'll be able to place it on the stick. It is not permanent however, it will go away when you restart your save. And the traps in this game are kinda pointless, you, Virginia, Kelvin, and random squirrels will trigger them. All the time. ALL the time. Damn squirrels.
I chased Virginia with a modern ax everytime she crept up to me, I thought she was another hostile so I'd chase her away(without hitting her), I was so surprised when she starts bringing me shit, and even more surprised to realize that she kept following me everywhere and would sit in my base
i wonder if the cube is part of the survival gameplay as if we have to go inside it every few days or get mutated ? like in 5 years when its a really finished game. remember lost the tv series when they had to input a number every few hours or they blew up or so they tough. would be cool if we could find the main guy from the first and he gives you quests and teaches you the script.
Haha, I've got that series. I always thought the first game reminded me of Lost. They have "the hatch" in this one. To add, I'd like them to do something like what you said. The First one had Megan monster and artifact after beating game....
I was exploring and came late to the demon cave since my friends were freaking out about it. When I got there I saw the email "crosses burn demons" and read that to them and asked if the cross does something, and we figured it out that way.
Very good video. The repair tool is also a good early tip. There is another 3d printer, much closer, no shovel required & some players might not know about sending logs on a zip-line. Geat content, thx. 👍
Late to the party, I didn't know some of these like the cross bit will really come in handy. Tips I have, have Kelvin pick up arrows or spears if you have a hard time finding them if you missed your taget, especially in the snow. You can nod at both Virginia and Kelvin and they will nod back. You can stay in Kelvin's good graces by not being an asshole (theowing logs/stones, pointing your weapon at him) and actively giving him breaks, particularly after chopping wood or hauling stones (not rocks) as those tasks seem to tire him out the most, he'll do like a 'hell yeah' fist bump if he's tired enough and you tell him to take a break.
Cool fun fact here: for some reason I have yet to understand, you can also see Virginia just absolutely punt kelvin's head when he goes to grab stuff, such as logs or sticks. if this occurs, she will also give a thumbs up when kelvin dies, which I discovered at the same time as I discovered that Virginia could emote at all.
If you chase Virginia and she's letting you follow that's OK. But if she stops then holds her hands up telling you to stop do it or she will run away faster than you can keep up and it will be awhile b4 she shows back up. And she always shows up within the first 2 or 3 min of the game and sh will follow u and show up where ever you might build your base
"Don't chase her" Also me: Naruto running right by her Also Virginia will cry for whoever dies, died once and she was crying. Was expecting her or kelvin to pick me up
the sled is also great because it helps negate any fall damage. you could just off the side of a mountain straight down and land without any fall damage.
There's another 3D printer on the green signal cave where you don't need a shovel or Key card if you haven't gone that far from the game.. I discovered pretty early into the game
I gave Virginia a handgun and camo suit and I haven't seen her since (Camo suit apparently working TOO well lol). About 25 days missing. Forgot to put a tracker on her though.... Kalvin the moron follows everywhere SMH! This game is AWSOME! Thanks for all the great tips!
