An internet channel actually fact checking their work and holding themselves accountable? That truly is where no one has gone before. Nice job.

I'm relatively new to the channel, but I really love the content. And now I love it even more because it's an exceedingly rare thing to see someone go through the trouble to do a corrections video like this one. It really shows the love and respect y'all give to the material and your viewers. 😻👍

I normally HATE the "X things you didn't know about Y" videos. Because they're usually super obvious things that any fan would know. But these guys do some deep cuts and I always learn something :D

Cool update guys - i have thoroughly enjoyed your look back at this great cinematic Star Trek adventure… my question to you is will there be a fourth seeing as we now have another version that has recently come out on Paramount plus and that is physically coming out in September this year? Cheers Greg

Robert Wise? Director of Star Trek: The Motion Picture also directed The Sound of Music(1965), West Side Story (1961), Run Silent Run Deep (1958) had a pretty big filmography for not being a A-lister. He did have a couple more director roles after that, but he's been directing since 1942.

I think there may be misunderstanding here. The point being made is that there hasn't been an A-list director for Star Trek since Robert Wise, meaning Robert Wise was the only director of a Star Trek film who was an A-list director at the time of directing the film. JJ Abrams had only directed the film Mission Impossible 3 prior to directing Star Trek 2009; therefore, he had not yet achieved A-list director status.

He was definitely A-List, but his career went on the decline by the time he got the gig for TMP.
@PopeyeBjj86

I wouldn't even count Abrams as an A list movie director now.

I watched TMP this last weekend. The 'Vulcan' language sounds like they just recorded phonetically backwards English, then reversed the tape (David Lynch style). Several points in the scene, the 'Vulcan' CLEARLY matches up to the subtitles.

What a perfect outlet for someone who has a degree in history! & I'm sure you have interest in more substantial events of the past, but this, this Star Trek niche, mmm, I hope you're making $100K doing these. I've truly enjoyed your presentations.

So this is really a ‘corrections’ video where you are correcting misinformation on your last 2 videos Too funny 😂 I actually found this one the most interesting of the 3 Love that film - ST: TMP is a modern masterpiece unlike any other Trek film
@projectgoatse
@projectgoatse 3 года назад
It’s really not though. It’s just a Trek version of 2001: A Space Odyssey. The story itself was just recycled TOS fare. I would argue that 2 was a better space opera with classic fantasy tropes and compelling character development. And 4 stands alone as one of the first sci-fi comedies and is brilliant in execution.
@trekkiedave7910
@trekkiedave7910 3 года назад
@@projectgoatse Hmmm 🤔 First - it’s not a copy of 2001 - thematically the message of 2001 is that humanity has evolved and advanced thru extraterrestrial help and assistance In ST: TMP the message is the exact opposite - we’re in control of our own destiny - we decide our future - ‘The Human Adventure Is Just Beginning!’ Second- the criticism that TMP lifts storytelling ideas from A TOS episode I read an interesting StarLog article decades ago - in it Roddenberry explained he approached the TOS episode as a ‘short story’ and TMP as an expanded ‘novel’ of those themes addressed in that episode I’m fine with that explanation Remember- this is a fictional world Also, at the time it was unheard of for a television show to be transformed into a big budget feature length film Roddenberry believed this was his only shot to bring his vision of a humanist utopian future to the big screen The idea this film would lead to a film series and subsequent multiple sequels was not expected - at that time it was unheard of

Abrams was indeed A list at the time, he had nearly 20 years under his belt as a writer and had already directed Mission: Impossible III with Super 8 already in development.

Doohan's main contribution was around some elements of phonology and prosody in the language. Okrand is the proper creator.
@manic5378
@manic5378 3 года назад
That's true, however I don't think people are really crediting Doohan with creating the "language" (quotes for emphasis) which we see extensively following The Search For Spock, however Okrand built upon the brief snippets we see in The Motion Picture. Doohan had a hand in creating the "sound" and a few words of the language, whereas Okrand expanded it into a functional language, even making minor alterations on the fly during filming, not only during The Search For Spock, but also in The Undiscovered Country, where he added "to be" into the language. Thus, where the word "proper" fits in, I think all involved are "proper" creators as the language could have turned out quite differently had it not been for the short guttural barks in The Motion Picture.

Apparently Nemesis production had a chance of getting Ridley as co-writer John Logan had worked with him on Gladiator. I think Ridley read the script and declined 🤪

The Vulcan Amsterdams clearly says to Spock, "cash cow Spock." This had to be an inside joke or it's just a weird coincidence. As well know Nimoy held out for money, as in cash.

In your ups and down video for the season finale for Lower Decks you missed what I think is an Easter egg to discovery. On the Titan bridge, sitting right next to Riker is I think the same species as Linus from discovery.
