Still love the scene where Kirk and Spock argue over where to go for dinner. Gillian: you guys like Italian? Kirk: yes I love Italian and so do you. Spock: Yes. Great movie all around.
Also my favorite. While I will concede Star Trek II is a better shot film and more important to the franchise as a whole, IV is still incredibly good and the TOS film that is most like the series.
@@anonymousscience4095 "..more important to the franchise..." Indeed; it helped salvage the whole IP (still like TMP very much, particularly the "Director Edition"), helped to propel the cinematic computer graphics technology forward, and served as both sequel to Space Seed and prequel to TSFS and TVH.
Navy/Marine training, someone yells for you to “hit the deck” you do it… it could save your life depending on the circumstances (jet engine failure, something crashing, ammunition accident (one little mistake is a bad day for everyone.)
Indeed. Onboard such a vessel, Marine security teams, once they announce themselves, have absolute authority. Failure to "hit the deck" as ordered could easily result in hitting it anyway, only much harder. The best way to commandeer such a ship would probably be to pose as such a team.
@@rangersmith4652 I’m sure the real Marine security guys would catch on quickly. Gotta be protocols in place to make sure someone isn’t trying to exploit things.
No one taught me to hit the deck. You typically learn by everyone's reactions. I was in a live fire exercise when someone on the range called "short round!" It didn't take me long to figure out that I needed to find cover and quick!
Star Trek IV isn’t the only Paramount Pictures movie from 1986 where USS Ranger stands in for the Enterprise. It was also used to film some interior scenes aboard Enterprise for Top Gun.
The knife trick early in Aliens should have an Oscar "Best Knife Gag in a Motion Picture". The other one would be Mick Dundee "you call that a knife? THIS is a knife!"
Jane wasn’t the lead singer in the Go-Go’s. She was a founding member and rhythm guitar player. She sang, but wasn’t the lead. Still brilliant, though.
They originated in the 79 punk scene in la and doing punk covers. They did not make it big until they started playing their own music . Check out on RU-vid
I always found it funny that Saavik says she never had an opportunity to tell Kirk how David died, after they'd been hanging around Vulcan for three months. Sure, you could make the argument she found it too awkward or uncomfortable to bring up... except, she's Vulcan.
@@PetersonZF I've always wondered if Spock had another child running around the Romulan empire after his time with the female Romulan captain from TOS.
FUN FACT: The probe's distinctive throbbing sound is literally just Leonard Nimoy saying, "Wub wub wub wub wub" into a microphone, then doctored by a little movie magic.
The first pilot was called "The Cage" but it didn't sell. The stidio allowed Roddenberry to make a second pilot. It was called "Where no man has gone before" and that's the one that sold. They reworked the original pilot into the first season two parter called "The Menagerie.
I Hate You by Kirk Thatcher used to be hard to find! Took me quite a few tries! My ultimate success was nigh unforgiveable to the odd friend I'd play it for. 😁
Didn't know the Eddie Murphy thing was thought to be a rumor! I did always doubt that he'd have kissed Kirk on the cheek at the end like Gillian does, though.
Um, Jane Weidlin was not the lead singer for the Go-Go's. That would be Belinda Carlisle. Weidlin was the rhythm guitarist. And the extra who spoke, her car wasn't blocked in. It was towed.
Jane Wiedlin was, however, the cute one. That should be acknowledged as undeniable fact. If she and Susanna Hoffs ever appeared in a photo together I would probably melt into a puddle upon seeing it. Anyway, I believe she's also a dominatrix these days if I'm not mistaken.
How do you cover Kirk Thatcher's Bus Punk, but not his cameo in Spider-man Homecoming ? He was standing with the hot dog vendor who tells Peter to do a flip. This same vendor character reappears on a bus, in Shong Chi. 🤓
Kirk Thatcher as the Punk, was still in LA in 2024. In the Picard series season 2, he is blaring his new track- "I *still* hate you!" on the back of the bus when Raffi yells to "turn down that noise"
In the novel “Black Fire” it is shown that Spock nailed a Romulan and the offspring was Savik. So if the movie was to show that she was pregnant with his daughter… bad press.
You have to remember that in the 23rd century you took a shuttle to Alameda and go as the crow flies but in the 20th century you couldn't just beam in and out or fly there and it isn't a mere jaunt from SF to Alameda. It's at least a half hour drive if the traffic is good.
With regards ti the Punk Pt 2 fact, I apologize if this is a spoiler (I'll try to be careful) but in Star Trek Picard, he ONCE AGAIN plays a punk on a bus blaring music... I looked it up myself! And I think it's awesome that they did that
@@ianlister7333 Sorry my man, but if you look up the history the man who discovered it named it aluminum. It was other brits in their infinite "wisdom" that were salty it didn't have the i and added it. We Americans just respect the OG.
Sean... Love your show. But calling The Go Go's a punk band is a bit like calling that baby shark song heavy metal. It isn't... I lived through that era. They may have seen themselves as punk but the record stores listed them as pop rock
The Go-Go's were originally a punk band and were well known in the punk community in California. They didn't switch their music style until the early 80's but their origins were in punk. True story.
It's amazing how long they lasted since, according to Belinda, they really didn't like each other. But yea, I didn't know anything about their start as a punk rock band. I always thought they were an artificially formed product like The Monkeys.
As for the Scenes for the USS Ranger going a Cameo as the carrier Enterprise two things. Sailors ALWAYS listen to a Marine's direction, movie shoot or no movie shoot, because the Marines are armed! :p
Indeed. Way to much star power on him back then. It would have been the Star Trek crew co-starring in an Eddie Murphy movie. Kinda like how putting Richard Pryor in Superman III was a bad idea.
@@Rockhound6165 Other direction. She was in Voyager in August 1995. She had been on NYPD Blue since 1993, becoming Mrs. Costas-Sipowicz in a May 1995 episode.
Also, don't forget that Vijay Armitraj, the famous tennis player (who also appeared w/Roger Moore as Bond in Octopussy later on), was the Terran commander from the USS Yorktown saying they had to erect a 'solar sail' just to keep the ship moving underpowered in space.
If Savik was pregnant with Spock's baby, wouldn't it be nice to have this addressed in a future live action Star Trek movie or television series. The child grow's up knowing his father and as a result also joins Star Fleet like Spock did years earlier and goes on to have his own adventures.
Those whale animatronics were amazing. An absolute surprise to hear that EVERY shoot of the whales was artificial, not natural. And very embarrassing for the people who officially complained because of animal mistreatment before checking if there were animals involved - lapses like that make for a bad reputation of those organisations and don´t help the cause!
Eddie Murhy. If there is a nother movie, he could provide a Star Trek first. A Klingon Doctor. If the movie would have ended with the message save the whales, it would have not made as nearly as much money or have been viewed by as many people as it had been. NO ONE wants to watch a movie to be preached to or to have a message delivered to them. A movie is for entertainment only. Why do you think that movies that try to give "The MESSAGE" never do anything than tank, and Fast Furious movies have made so much money? The Huet shots, this is the first time I ever heard this, and I thought they were real. Spock's child and (Her) Mother needs to be present in a future episode. If Curtis can't or won't be present than the woman playing the part should have a Doctor with a similar name.
In the comments for Part one, I asked if the things I didn't already know would be in Part two. I guess the answer to that is a resounding "No." 'though, I suppose it would be pretty difficult to come up with some never before known tidbit from a movie released over 35 years ago.
lol calm down Shawn. If you actually knew all 20 of these before watching, then congrats to you on your obscure knowledge! Gold star for Shawn!! The rest of us fans got to learn something new :D
Jane Wiedlan was a guitar player in The Go-Gos, not the lead singer. I swear you guys...do some better fact checking before you go to record. I also just watched a video about Seven of Nine where you say that her catsuit was inspired by Batman 1960s Catwoman actress "JUDY" Newmar. Her name was JULIE, she had a movie named after her...smh
In both novels for Wrath of Kahn and Search for Spock Lt Saavic has a passionate and romantic relationship with David Marcus. With the Genesis effect she could very possibly be pregnant with Spock’s and David’s child at once
I THINK the Saavik being knocked up idea, was quashed as Spock, being 1/2 human, was most likely INFERTILE anyway! (So he was 'shooting blanks' as they say! OR his human genetics were NOT comaptible with Vulcan genetics for a viable conception! ) This would make sense as Spock was allegedly artificially conceived, between Amanda & Sarek, as human & vulcan DNA was not 100% compatible for natural conception, and needed 'help'! Done the OTHER way round, Spock could probably conceive a baby with a human woman, as he had enough human DNA in him but not ENOUGH vulcan DNA for a Vulcan baby! )
@@DMSProduktions What you wrote might not have been quite as clear as you think, at least not in that point my specific question was about. As fas as I understood. But never mind.
