@@bcummings2187 josh seems like a really nice guy however he knew marcus had a way better tone, it looked like he was mailing it in after markus's blazing soulfull lead work. i,l take a humbucker guitar for leads anyday over a single coil
@@johnsmith-bk4ps Nah man .....listen ....they are all great ....but make no mistake ....Josh is the best player up there......Markus is brilliant ....give him some time and we will probably be talking about him as one of the greatest.
So funny to read all these comments below. All the people that think they have this deep relational understanding of the blues criticizing Marcus for his fast pace solo. Let him keep his creative liberties in tact and play the blues. It sounds to me like he understands quite well how to play the blues and also how to make it his own and to hear everyone criticize his style with a reductive perspective like “it’s not like all the other blues” is just saddening. This seems to me like we’re witnessing the evolution of a fine blues player making the blues his own and if you want everyone to play the same box of notes or with a certain blues method, then we’ve already seen the beginning and end of blues music. This was played at an event called “keeping the blues alive” and if you call yourself a blues enthusiast I would think that you would value the archetypes of blues as well as the evolved version of blues. If we rely only on the archetypal sound of blues then, like bluegrass or other semi-traditional music, we’re going to box it in until it’s dead. Just my humble opinion as a musician and appreciator of talented people. Peace and love.
It's also hypocritical I'd say, too, because you have people complaining that he's shredding too much but they'd likely prefer someone like clapton, who shredded far less but was still a 'shredder' compared to 20s delta blues. Blues has always evolved and always will and some can't handle that and don't understand that the stuff they champion is also evolved blues if compared to the true roots. Bunch of schmuck experts on youtube too stupid to shut up and enjoy the music for what it is. It's either garbage or the greatest thing ever recorded, no in-between. You said it far more eloquently than I, but i'm easily frustrated by morons, what can I say... lol
Fricken awesome 👌!!! He,s putting a spark in the blues like few have before him ..Grabs your attention like Stevie did ..!! Hard to stand out in this company but he does ..
@@nacienlos70 My pleasure I love to see guitar players get the recognition they deserve but rarely receive. Here are a few others I think you'll enjoy. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zvGfqXTeP_8.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5B9Pu7J1QR0.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vCBqllwwjpg.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-awAZSGGxRJw.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Lojc8krFzgE.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4OTTLCVWNbI.html
This kid has had this calling since I've known him since he was five years old. He knew at an early age that he wanted this and God bless him for it. All of us that call ourselves lovers of the Blues should step back and bask in what will eventually be called the birth of a new legend pouring out his heart and soul playing what is just a name given to a style of music that we all enjoy. Folks we are all witnessing excellence that is just coming of age.
Charles Lowery i agee. I live here in Greenville and to hear negative comments from people that don't have a clue or critical about his playing have no soul. He will get better and better as he matures, of course, so sit back and enjoy the journey. I've put my 30+ years of playing behind me and its hard and also a blast
I think Marcus King is pretty much one of a kind. His voice is pretty damn unique, along with his guitar playing. Obviously he has influences but come on, he is something else.
I'm almost 70 ,been loving the blues for a very long time and this is right up there with the great ones .Young talent to keep the blues alive .Incredible !!!!!!
Interesting that it’s probably he’s first time hearing Marcus. Josh is a purist and he understands that this young fella is, as well. Marcus is well on his way now.......
When Stevie Ray played Montreux the first time in 82' I believe it was, the "purists" said similar things. They said he was too loud, too this and too that and as we all know he ended up a Legend!
I'm in disbelief at the dislikes. This is one of the best blues players I've ever heard. Unless you don't like the blues. Then OK. Then the other guys started soloing and I was in heaven. All these guys are kick ass guitar players. Obviously the front man's the front man for a reason. Wow!!! Great post. Thank you for that little piece of sunshine.
Not only can he play guitar and sing the blues, but he also writes songs and music. An all around talent - nice to see a young guy helping to keep the blues alive!
I wish all three of these guys could get back together again and do a couple more blues songs . This was the video that turned me onto Marcus and I knew he was going places . I also love love love both Kirk and Josh , they are fantastic themselves.
At first you hear Marcus great guitar tone, then his gifted playing and then he starts singing ... man, wow, ... and then ... you don't have words to describe this emotion ... ok, I shut up and listen. Over.
Marcus has quite an original approach, and uses a lot of rock approved arpeggios, a technique which in the wrong hands can sound rather stilted and stiff (in a rock blues setting) but here he pulls it off beautifully, connecting the dots with more soul than one would normally expect to hear in this musical setting. I guess this shouldn't come as much of a surprise however given this 20 year old's remarkable aplomb and stage presence. An amazingly confident and gifted young performer.
The new young gun slinger backed by the two best jamin sidemen in the blues business today. What a trio of talented guitar players. These were bluest shows I saw on the cruise.
So blessed to work for Marcus and the Band.. super good people and talent ! Catch'em IN Boulder Colorado some of my work SUPER LOUD show.. CLICK HERE NOW > ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ulB3B6M7OD0.html
Linda, Can't believe it was almost 4 years ago now. Soo glad I got in a 2 fer when Marcus and The Boys played Eugene and Portland 2020. Was last live shows before COVID closed everything down. Damn that is still such a tight band.
I remember when Josh was his age,....actually I remember when I first saw Josh when he was16 in a bar in Fort Lauderdale. He was amazing...just like this Marcus young fella. Great stuff and nice to see the generations keep making good music.
I just saw this guy at Clapton's Crossroads guitar festival in Dallas tonight. I hate to think of who I missed as it was still on with Jeff Beck at midnight, but Marcus King caught my attention. So here I am.
wow this is a school on tonal differences betwixt the best guitars for the genre. That mello ES-345, that bright tele, that crunchy les paul! fantastic!
This was Marcus at his best raw. As with all entertainers the fire burns less bright when the road gets easier. Let’s hope he stays true to the roots. Top man Marcus.
Blues is a genre spread from Country to Rock, if you can snap your fingers , sing along and tap your feet its worthy of calling you out into its space in time. Here you have all three....Marcus King new kid on the block Blues Man, Rocker and Country singer has the equipment that many wished they had, he's busting the Richter scale of blues and making us believe.....great stuff.....
Never delete this or your account. My absolute favorite Marcus King video. Been going back to it since you posted and I randomly found it down a RU-vid rabbit hole 7 years ago. He’s finally getting more popular and he’ll be on top soon. No doubt
I'm a 61yo dude and I've been in music since I don't know when. Marcus King is one of the best musicians I've ever heard and seen. And even a humble and nice person. From Germany, Hugo. THX for sharing, @missmoke007
Marcus King, oh man the raw talent there is incredible! But I have to lift my hat for the guitarist on the les paul. He BOSSED that solo. The feels hit me so bad. Cheers from Sweden and keep the videos coming, it is truly appreciated!
+Gustaf Holmberg I hope Marcus was listening to that, too. That's where he should hope to get with his playing. As for Kirk Fletcher, he has all the talent of young Marcus King but has something Marcus does not: experience. It's the final ingredient if you want to be considered in the same breath with the greats of all time. And that's a fact, Jack.
He's got the soul and voice of a 70 year old black man, with the speed and dexterity of a 20 year old. Probably gonna be a professional musician for the rest of his life.
I rarely have patience for long jams these days, even ones i grew up with. This one had me for every second with repeats in order. Marcus is on the cover of the latest GP. Rightfully so.
We saw Marcus King in St Louis's Blueberry Hill's Duck Room (late 2017).... It was a great show !!! Thank you missmoke007 for sharing....and keep your eyes (and ears) on the Marcus King Band
I’ve seen a lot post giving mixed reviews on this guy. Any musician any guitar player knows this guy is the real deal. Comparing him to SRV or Hendrix. Obviously you calm tell the influence is there but this guy is on a different all together. People hear someone shred out blues licks in the guitar and automatically say “oh he’s just another srv wanna be. But the fact is this simply isn’t true. This guys throws a little bit of everything in there, which stated earlier from someone already, can be a a major mess and sound terrible from someone trying to force it or can’t properly execute it which Marcus does flawlessly. You can hear blues , jazz and swing , country , Motown , southern rock, and even a little funk. Hats off to this guy for sure! Excited to see how far he goes and what all he comes up with!
Sam actually was a pretty darn good player, himself. I saw him play twice. Once trading licks with Ted Nugent and once with Randy Hansen (one of the best Hendrix tribute guys.) Sam could more than hold his own, believe me.
As a young blues musician, it’s extremely refreshing to know that there are still young and talented musicians keeping the genre alive and marketable. As well, it’s even cooler to see the best of the modern generation of blues musicians playing together. Marcus King is my new favorite guitarist, because his style is not only virtuosic, but more importantly unique. He has a trademark sound that’s all his own. If you pay attention, he almost never bends, much like a jazz guitarist, and he has the best balance of flash without sacrificing feel and soul. Kirk fletcher as well, he has a sound all his own with combined influences of B.B. and the rest of the 3 Kings, but with his own twist.
