Love watching these videos. Plain language and gives a good idea of what a project entails. Also, those new hubs are SHINY

Nice Job. The axle play at time index 14:36 is due to the hub not being installed. There are three bearings in the hub assembly. The main large one, not visible, is for the wheel. The two smaller ones support the fwd axle. There is one buried in the back of the hub locker, it supports the tip of the 4wd axle and a smaller a needle bearing n the hub assembly on the axle side that supports the axle on the axle tube side. If you don't have the hub & the locker installed there is nothing to support the axle except the axle seals. That axle tube dust seal is bad so change that one. Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya

@@James-qq1rd Hey James I don't know if you were asking me or L.O.W. Do this search, "2001 (use your year) ford f350 front hub bearing", for them on Amazon and you'll find the ones need. I would select Timken as they are the best. Don't for get you'll need the seals and the seal install tool. It's expensive at around $80.00 bucks but it will save you seals and you can resale the tool when you're done. I've done this job twice on a friends truck (one wheel each) so trust me buy the tool. Also don't forget to inspect the outer axle shaft bearing surface and the outer bearing in the wheel locker. The bearing in the wheel locker can be changed as well. Hope this helps. Great video! When I bought my truck a few years ago the owner before me replaced the locking hubs with Warn, they forgot the snap ring on the stub shaft which chewed up the shafts. So I replaced everything from the u-joint outwards. Everything is still running good and I have 19.5's for tire/wheel combo.

Did the same job on my 7.3 about 2 years ago. Ended up replacing the vacuum seal (big seal in the spinal) and the seal in the axle right after the ujoint and it tightened the axle right up. No play in it after. I’m pretty sure there was a thrust washer between the wheel bearing and vacuum seal

FYI if you are replacing the pads you can put your pry bar or a screw driver in the access hole in the caliper and pry the caliper over to depress the piston in and you will not have to fight very much to get it off.

Hi, my truck is 2000 2WD, does it use the same parts shown in your video? I don't know if mine has ABS on all four wheels. How do I tell? It has 160K and most likely has not had the hub replaced. Do you recommend replacing the hub and bearing? or is it ok with just replacing the rotor and pads? Thanks for your advice.
@LivingOnWheels
@LivingOnWheels 2 года назад
No a 2wd is a different setup. You’ll see wires going to a sensor if you have abs. As for replacing. You only really need to replace any if it if it is worn out.

Are you ever in cold weather with the 7.3? I hear they don’t start too well in cold weather. Do you know how true this is ?
@LivingOnWheels
@LivingOnWheels 5 лет назад
Personally I do not currently live in a very cold climate. Coldest it usually gets here is the 20s. Grew up in colorado though where we saw some cold winters. These things do have a reputation for having a tougher time with cold starts but in my opinion this is because most people don't maintain their trucks as well as they should. Keep the glow plug system strong and healthy, run the right oil, use the block heater when needed and these things should start fine in sub zero temps. Take care of your truck and it will take care of you.

Phil D My 94 Ford 7.3 starts hard in near zero weather. Starts better if the engine heater is plugged in. Had to use a 40 amp charger to start it. It shook so hard, I thought it was going to blow up, when it did start! I had 15-40 Rotella oil in it, and probably should have a lower viscosity oil, because of the extreme cold in Prince George, during the Winter months. Zero degrees can change regular weight oil into a thick syrup, at that temperature.
