2001 Chevy Silverado - ABS & Brake Lights On

Had a little issue with my 2001 Chevy Silverado for the last few months with my ABS & brake lights coming on randomly. The last couple months they came on pretty consistently and almost right at 1 mile or so of driving. I decided it was time to get it fixed and took the ABS module off and sent it into ABSFixer out of Missouri. They did a great job with it and quickly also. Works great again and no lights. I will update this video description if anything ever changes, but if I don't then all is good with it. I highly recommend ABSFixer for anyone that is needing their module repaired.
Update - 03/02/2021
Drove it to work and back last night, about 50 miles round trip, without issues. Worked great and no lights at all.
www.absfixer.net
Update: As of today, 02/03/2022, I've put a little less then 2400 miles on since this repair was done. Truck now has 69,024 miles on it. I've never had the ABS light come on again at all. Been a good repair and the truck is good to go.
Stay safe, stay healthy and most of all.....STAY GRAPE

great video. thanks for creating this! going to diagnose my lights with the ground wire first and then maybe have to send the module off if that doesn't fix it. Certainly won't find a underbody that clean here in western NY..🤣.. I have an 02 Tahoe I have been fighting with for a while..ABS and service brake lights on, won't come out of second gear.. cleaned all grounds and found some missing ones.. changes vehicle speed sensor, still no speedo, lights still on and no coming out of second gear. Tested voltage to abs plugs at wheels, then tested for ohms from plug to wheel, both seem good, going to try to clean rust off wheel sensors next (think it may be in limp home mode..?) then if that don't help I will have to get lots of rust in my eyes down my shirt etc etc to try to do what you did... man pulling my hair out with this thing! I love Arizona or at least did in '76 when we visited grandparents in Arizona sunsites!!! Could see the gold mines from their house and roadrunners every morning!!! (Not the mopar kind🤣..)

Best of luck with your repair. It does sound like it's a computer thing to me. Although New York does have some salt and other corrosion chemicals that can mess with stuff. Arizona does have some pro's and con's, heat is getting to be a con for me though.

I’ve got a 2000 Chevy Express Van. The van started pulling to the left so I took it in. The shop wanted $1200 to replace the front rotors,calipers, brakes. I said screw this and did that myself thinking they knew what they were talking about and had done proper trouble shooting. I paid them for their trouble. Low and behold after doing all that work including brake hoses and bearings not nary a drop of fluid came from the right side caliper. Dry as a bone. So back to the shop I go thinking it was a proportional valve. But no now it’s the ABS unit. No longer produced as a part. I know the owner for 30 years but his counter service man is lacking in personality. I could tell he did not want to deal with this van. Are you going to come get your van? Part no longer made. If you get a part and we put it on and it fails you will still have to pay us on and on and on. I found a complete but used part. I do not know how they actually work but I expect electromagnetic valving. No dash lights illuminated so I expect this is a mechanical vs electronic issue. To recap, I have pressure to all but the right front caliper. Any ideas?

What are the problems when they go out mine is a chevy trailblazers suv 2005 i have changed the master and booster and checked the brakes and calibers non was sticking when pushing back in but as out put new pads and had rotors turned since part store was next door to my job that do them for me for free. But after finding problem will get new rotors but we told it wasn't bad just a layer of surface rust from not driving last two years. 😢 As much but since everyone has driven it in family wasn't sure what was going on with them. But back to abs system them line broke when tryed to take pump stuff off so got lines fixed now but still only have barely got brakes and its hard at the floor and i pressing on it so hard im was just waiting for a snapp and fly down the hill
@c5grapeape
@c5grapeape Год назад
If the ABS goes out, you won't have the brakes will just lock up and you won't have the pulsing that the ABS system is suppose to do. It would be like driving an older car without the ABS system. Shouldn't affect the brakes working. I don't think your problem is with the ABS system but more like you said with either the master cylinder or possibly a caliper. If you have the original rubber brake lines on it still then maybe check each one of those out. I've heard they can degrade and cause braking issues too when they get old.

My guess is you're having the same issue I had. Does your ABS and brake light come on the same time? I never priced a new module or even checked into if they are even available, but my bet is it would be more expensive then repairing it. Or maybe try a junkyard one.

Okay, after watching it again I didn't cut the apex at all. I found a shallow 1/4" wrench from home depot that worked well with the apex. You should be able to get enough torque on it and it should only be right above the module with enough room to maneuver the wrench back and forth.

Sorry you're having trouble with it. I used a 90 degree pick/scribe to pull mine out. Sometimes if they get dirt or whatever in them they can be difficult. Maybe spray something in it like contract cleaner or even a blast of air and see if it clears some of whatever is in there.

Is the abs light supposed to come on when abs activates on these trucks?
@c5grapeape

It can. It will be more like a flicker as the system activates and deactivates while you have the brakes on hard. As long as it goes out and stays out while you're driving normal it should be okay.

I used my husky ratcheting apex wrench but they don't make it anymore. What you can use is a 1/4" gear wrench with an apex that's about 1" or 1.5" long. That will fit in that space and work really well I believe.
