Had the same thing on my silverado. Could not figure the problem out so finally just popped the cluster open got a pair of pliers and broke that abs and break light out then pulled the fuse. I'll be the last owner of my truck anyways 😆
I took my ABS module out 2 days ago and re-soldered the joints on the circuit board and no more ABS & Brake light .. there was a row of 4 solder joints with 2 having small cracks that you needed magnifying glass to see …
Appreciate the question. I’m just a DYI guy and don’t hire out for repairs. Don’t know what a shop would charge for this repair. If you don’t want to do the soldering, I do know there are companies that will swap out a repaired module for a fee if you send them the old one. You just have to do the labor of removing the unit. Good luck and thanks!
Thanks for the great video. I have a 2002 suburban with an intermittent ABS light. I'll be pulling the module and soldering it tomorrow. I just need to find some of that heat transfer Grease.
@@adrianalejo5374 Yes I did fix it, I removed the ABS module from the vehicle, took it all apart and used a soldering iron to fix the bad solder joints, then put it back together and it's been working fantastic ever since. I found this video, which showed how to do it.
You mentioned you may have stripped a screw on your Silverado and cut the head off. I too, on my Silverado stripped one screw. What was your technique on cutting off the screw head? My screw is the second one facing the ABS underneath. Thanks
If I remember correctly, I used a pair of wire cutters and just kept cutting little by little at the head of the screw. I’m sure there is a better way but that’s what I did. Not a whole lot of room to work in that area. Good luck! Thanks!
Does the S-10 use this same module? My problem is intermittent but when it happens both the ABS and regular brake idiot lights come on simultaneously. They also go out simultaneously.
Not sure if it is the same model ABS module but I believe it is. I thinks S-10 modules are under the hood and much easier to access. Mine is a Kelsey-Hayes brand. Both my ABS and Parking brake lights also came on at the same time just like yours. Thanks for the comment and good luck!
Good tip to use flux, and cleaning your iron (tin then wipe, sometimes shocking it with a wet sponge) You should remove solder 1st though, using wicking braid and your iron. Place the braid on the joint and heat/push with the iron until the old solder wicks up into the braid. Also you don't want a ton of solder, that's actually a weaker connection. It's not bigger the blob, better the job. The joints should be clean, clear and concaved. Clean/clear mean shiny and mirror like. And be concave up the lead.
I have both on in my Envoy. Have checked the wiring and found the two fuses are being supplied with 2.3 Volts. The switch mod sends them voltage when key is on. Not great electrical drowning. Shows from fuses but not where power too them comes from. Just saying.
No other issue with the ABS module. There are other reasons that cause the ABS and Brake light to come on including, a bad wheel sensor and sometimes a bad ground. This video just shows the repair for a very common ABS problem and what fixed the issue for my particular vehicle. Thanks!
I believe there is a way to test the wheel sensor using a multimeter on the sensor wire at the connector. Maybe check other RU-vid videos on how to do it. Thanks.
Mine 2002 Silvarado has the same problem, when it warms up, on cold days it takes a while. Does it affect the ABS to work if I let it stay on and not fix the problem?
I’m not 100% sure, but my understanding is that when the ABS light is on, the ABS system will not operate. Your brakes will still work but just no anti-locking function.
I had tested my wheel sensors and they were fine. Also, abs light came on after driving a while and I believe heating up the solder joints. Just guessing, but I believe if a wheel sensor is bad, abs light probably will come on when hitting a bump. Mine was consistently turning on after about 5 miles of driving on the highway. Hope this helps and good luck. Thanks.
@@robertshields2025 it was cheap-abs in Kansas. They insisted it was done correctly, obviously something wasn’t. It had communication when I sent it in now it doesn’t.
Not 100% sure, but I believe the abs modules are similar and assuming that the bad solder joints are the problem, then this repair should solve your issues. Thanks and good luck!
