Had this very issue on my 2001 Pathfinder recently. I replaced the relay, but the intermittent starting returned. Finally decided to pull the starter itself and replace. Wasn't too difficult, a couple hours or so. The new starter fixed the problem 100%. The issue hasn't happened since.
Thank you sir. Stuck in the middle of nowhere. Messed with the relay and put it into neutral and it started right up. Will be changing that relay now after months of issues.
Great video thanks man!! Another thing you can do is remove the relay and if the same sound is there its possible it is the relay since the relay is needed for the start it a decent way to tell its bad
I have a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder, it’s not ran since April 3rd, I had it at my mechanics place, they couldn’t Anything wrong with it but I did replace my battery, Diagnostics has been ran 3 times. So I’m gonna take your advice & but the relay & the NP one. Plus, the fuel pump 2 fuse also. 🤞🏻
My Mazda truck had the same issue. You can remove it and try a similar relay you likely have on your vehicle so check the number on the relay and if it fixes the issue you have a bad relay.
215,000 miles and my 2002 just started having that symptom. I replaced the starter and it worked fine for a week and then it happened again. Hopefully the relay fixes this issue.

Not so fast. Avoid getting a new part which they won't take back because you opened it and installed it, only to find it didn't help. Suggest diagnostic to find the true problem. Either the neutral safety switch, or something in the column is most likely the culprit.
I'm having same issue. Do you have a part number for that relay? Where can l get it? NAPA and other parts stores are not finding that relay?? Can you offer any help in finding it?
I thought I was having the same problem as you, but now I think my problem might be something else. Sometimes mine will start right up, other times it will make a clicking sound and then finally start. I've replaced the starter and alternator and the battery is good. Have you had similar issues? Mine has 240,000 miles on it.
If automatic? There should be a clicking sound coming from the gear shift area, as you turn the vehicle from acc. position, to on position. That's normal.... If no click, then maybe neutral/park shift mechanism needs to be changed out... Just a thought. 2001 pathfinder
The relay is only 20 bucks. They had it in stock, at Orielly. Takes a minute to change. It might be the relay. Or watch a video on how to check a relay.
@@olivi3339 I had my car checked out and I guess it was the alternator. Since they were the ones that fixed it the first time back in October, they had to replace it for free. Hopefully this time it will last.
@@cristhian4160 No. What happened, my car wouldn't start and it had to do with a switch behind the battery that was preventing power to get to the starter. Something like that. So what the mechanics did was just bypass that switch and just hardwired it to the battery. It's been awhile, but I believe that's what they did. It's been starting fine ever since. Hope that helps.
It's always a relay or a sensor. My extra sensory perception is saying get full coverage,wait a month, roller down a steep mountain. Lol. I'm kidding-kinds
I have this problem in my pathfinder 2001 195kmilesi and i thougth its the the relay i bougth one at O'Reilly then almost a month it came back the same problem.then i go under the car and i tap the solenoid with the hammer then it start,so i think the solenoid is stuck. I have to find one at amazon.
Yes, solenoid can get stuck, then work for many starts. Then get stuck again.. They recommend changing the whole starter, so you won't have to bother with it again. Price is not that much more.
If tapping it will make it turn over then its the solenoid. You have an electric motor company or starter/alternator shop thats the way to go. I have some guys n I can get that stuff fixed cheap.
My 01 Altima 4cy, my son put the battery backwards and burned melted in the fuse panel the battery 100 amp fuse. I got the same panel in the junkyard, but don't know how to disconnect the old panel to put new one. There's no video on how to disconnect the battery fuse panel and replace it. Please HELP..

Hmmm.... Get one from the wrecking yard, if that's the issue.... Labor should not be much..... I'm on several R50 groups on Facebook. If you use Facebook the groups usually have help to these questions.... Mechanic is probably right.... Do you have a OBD 2 scan tool...? If not, get one... I would try looking up the repair and doing it yourself.
I have a 99 q4 inf. With same issue it just go off while driving now doesn't star i hope this will fix will try and uldate if so. But it was running and suddenly stopped on the road so it may be something else idk yet.
That's possible. There's videos on checking relays. Solenoid is simular in symptoms... and a greater chance of problem. Someone did post, that they had a recall on those relays, years ago...
It in the shifting column. You get to it from underneath.. It is rarely the problem..... Battery, battery cables and connections, solenoid, starter motor, relay, neutral/park cut off swich..... I would say, in that order, check.
