He didn't replace crush washer on drain bolt previously thats why he had an oil leak before he even started and he should have added fresh oil to the filters gasket, but overall it's still a good video for the D.I.Y.er

I was gonna spend $60 to have it done until this. but my auto guy said you should use more than 5w oil for this car do you agree?
@chriswilson3964
@chriswilson3964 9 лет назад
Glad to help. He suggested that because it may be a higher mileage vehicle and he wants to increase the oils density/weight for coating purposes. But Honda uses a fully synthetic 5W because the engines pistons are fit tightly. I would never vary from factory recommendations. Get 5W20 fully Synthetic and look for higher mileage vehicles on the bottle. You will be in much better shape than increasing the weight of the oil. Let me know if you need further help.

nice tl i got the same colour also, i was wondering did you use the jack that came with the car to do the oil change? I've heard you should get jack stands or something along those lines cause it's safer
@chriswilson3964
@chriswilson3964 8 лет назад
I typically don't jack the car up when I change the oil. If you plan on jacking the car, It is recommended to get a more stable jack than the emergency roadside jack. I look at it like this...spending the money once and saving the money from an ER visit is worth the $50-$100 jack. Hope that helps!

I know it’s been a couple of years, but you should probably buy yourself some ramps to make oil changes a little easier. Also, you should always lube your oil filters before you put them on to ensure a good seal.

How many miles does your car have??????? Very vital information!
@chriswilson3964
@chriswilson3964 6 лет назад
Michael Flores I don’t have the car anymore. Mine had 226k and ran great. Steering was tight and drove very smooth. I drive 5-6k miles a month and it was just too much for this car. Minor issues just kept arising...😕

Chris Wilson was your steering rack leaking ? So 226,000 original miles? Wow nice thank you for the info!! Great video!

Chris Wilson What did you upgrade to and how do you like it? I have an 03 TLS and love it, but am having the same issues with little things coming up.

When happen if I reverse the car with no oil?
@chriswilson3964
@chriswilson3964 8 лет назад
That's never an idea scenario but since you ask...typically there is still a residue of oil left in the pan/block etc. Best case, it wasn't on long and it got very hot but minimal if any damage is done. You probably got lucky because typically the block will seize and you would be out thousands of dollars. Even with oil added after, it would be too late. But much worse scenarios could happen like catching your car on fire. Just take your time, be systematic and always check everything before pouring and before starting. Never rush this bc it almost always burns you in the end

How do u lift your car to work under it?
@chriswilson3964
@chriswilson3964 8 лет назад
Typically, for an oil change, I lift it with an hydrolic jack by the support beam behind the passenger side front tire. I also turn the wheel all the way to the right for easier access to the oil filter
@michaelhinchey
@michaelhinchey 8 лет назад
+Chris Wilson You trust a hydrologic jack huh?
@chriswilson3964
@chriswilson3964 8 лет назад
+Michael Hinchey sorry, running on fumes today, no sleep + 8 hr drive = brain lapse! A floor jack is what I meant. And I misspelt Hydraulic!! Haha
@michaelhinchey
@michaelhinchey 8 лет назад
+Chris Wilson ok. that makes two of us on the spelling but I just copied and pasted from yours. ok. So a typical car jack or do u have a different style?
@chriswilson3964
@chriswilson3964 8 лет назад
+Michael Hinchey I have a 2.5 ton Jack that I use. I still place the stands In there for safety. Sometimes I will do it without lifting the car to keep from having to get everything out.

Already made a huge mistake. Fram Filter.
@chriswilson3964
@chriswilson3964 8 лет назад
😆 That's funny, can't argue this point but I've had great success with them for many years.
@sw9301
@sw9301 8 лет назад
You'll be ok. I just stay away from them. A lot of horror stories on Fram filters. I have the same car. 137k. Still running strong.
@chriswilson3964

+sw9301 yea, I am at 215k but put a Jasper tranny in at 180k drives better than the new ones did. Little tight to go into the techtronic shift
