Just watched this video, it was very helpful. Basic instruction for the shade tree mechanic. First time I have ever dealt with fuel injectors. Great job!!!!!
A faulty injector can also be an injector that does not spray properly or is spraying when the valve is closed. The computer system typically does not notice this but may throw a lean or rich code. I have seen injectors more commonly have a flawed spray pattern or leak. 1 or 2 injectors out of every high mileage vehicle I have pulled apart has had a flawed spray pattern due to debris in the injector valve.
I have a Ford 2001 with Dohc and my 4th cylinder is messing up and your video helped me out a lot in figuring out what I'll need to buy while I'm fixing that and all the other things i'll need while I'm in there and not waist time in the future.
I think I may have a bad injector so I may try and fix the issue. I just have one question which is do you have to do something with the fuel before taken and reassembling the injectors such as bleeding ? Thanks Dean
i have a 2002 ford taurus too! with code P0302 cylinder 2 misfire have replaced the sparkplugs, coil and wires i think my problem is the injector aswell. I dont experience shaking nor hesitation the only thing i see when i go 80mph is the check engine light blinks. if i stay above 80mph my light turns solid. if i go below it doesn't turn to solid light. i have a scan tool and everytime the check engine light turns solid its always P0302 code. Hope you give me input my Kababayan i live in Anaheim CA maybe you could do it for me if your close thanks!
My check engine light is on and the code reads random misfire, from the research I've done & the symptoms my car is showing I think it may be the ignition coil or fuel injector. Do you think random misfire falls more under ignition coil or fuel injector?
+DJ sneed You can check your ignition coil by removing the spark plug one at a time, reconnect the spark plug ground it to the engine and crank the engine. Observe to see if you have spark for each spark plug. Spark should have bluish flame. Make sure you remove the relay for the fuel pump before cranking. In addition to the ignition coil and injector, spark plug is also a suspect. When was the last time you changed them out?
Can you remove the front rail by itself or do you have to remove the intake and remove the entire fuel rail as one assembly. I've got a miss on cyl 4, I can hear the injector firing but have eliminated every other issue besides injector or internal engine damage so I'd like to swap two injectors on the front rail and see if the misfire follows the injector
Okay I have a question I have a 2004 ford Taurus Lx and I just recently got my ignition core replace and my car is still misfiring...my spark plugs are new its the spark plug underneath my engine how do i fix them?? ..my car is jerking when I come to a complete stop at a red light...it even cut off on me plz explain to me how do I replace them.
Do you have a check engine light on? You need to check your car with and OBD II scanner to see if there are pending codes. I have a video for changing the spark plugs on a vulcan engine if that's what you're asking.
I have an 02 mercury sable that’s misfire 5, new spark plugs (1yr old), 2 new 02 sensors, new transmission, new ignition coil pack. I smell gas at the engine upon cranking. Sound like the fuel injectors? Help!
So I have a 97 Taurus. Picked it up cheap. It had a bad misfire but no code for one. I replace plugs, wires and coil pack. New camshaft position sensor. It's still kinda missing . Not as bad. It has a exhaust leak behind the motor near the firewall. It is where the the exhaust manifold bolts to the pipe. It is loose is the gasket is bad. It's leaking where those connect. Could the cause a misfire? Or the feeling of a missfire?. What else could it be? It's only got 103k. And the code on is p0340
my 2005 ford Taurus isn't getting any power. if I drive it seems like I'm racing the engine to get it to drive. o changed the plugs what else can it be?
Start with the basics. Purchase a $6 spark plug tester light and check each cylinder for spark. Next, check the fuel pressure. Check for vacuum leaks. If the check engine light is on that's the biggest clue that the car is attempting to tell you what is wrong.
This car is notorious for shearing the torque converter spline shaft. Basically if that's your issue you will get high rpm rev with no traction to the gear system, it's a big expensive job, and most often requires a transmission rebuild to take care of the debris the spline shaft made as it came apart.
I have same exact car my engine light flashes I replaced the Ignition coil runs rough still clean maf sensor still bad and I'm having trouble finding. The injector still
I have 2002 mecury sable with a misfire out of the #5 cylinder.I have codes p0174,and p0305.I dont have alot of time, nor money to try and figure out how to fix the problem. Can you offer me any advice in which manner i should start/approch this problem.also my fuel is running lean.I thank you for time...Brian
P0174 may be caused by a dirty MAF sensor. I suggest you buy a MAF sensor clear at your local auto parts store and clean the MAF sensor. Make sure air filter is clean also. For your 305 error. Check the spark plug and the wire for #5 cylinder. Also test the coil pack. Eliminate the coil pack issue by removing the spark plug. The reconnect the spark plug wire back to the plug. For this test, you also need to remove the relays for the fuel pump. After connecting the plug to the wires, lay it on the engine then crank the engine and see if you have spark there. If no spark, your coil needs to be replaced.
well i tried taking the #5 spark plug out and grounding it on the block, and it fired.so then i took out the #6 spark plug and put on to the #5 wire, and it had spark also. so then i switched the # 5 and #6 spark plug wires.both of the wires are good.neither spark plug worked on #6 cylinder, with either wire.the initial report i got from the codes was that the #5 cylinder was not firing"P0305"but now it seems that it some how jumped cylinders,from#5 to#6.also my engine is making a noise that sounds like my muffler is banging on the bottom of the car,but i'm pretty sure its not.i haven't tried to clean off the sensor liked you suggested for the fuel running to lean.can you refresh my memory to which sensor it is. i forgot to right down the name. i'm going to go to auto zone in the morning and see if i can use a OBDII / EOBD reader. i think this all stems from my abs modulator caught fire about 3 weeks ago.i was washing my car and all of a sudden it started smoking, and i had to pull the power on the battery.the modulator was melted to the wiring harness.i went to a wrecking yard and payed $200.00 for the wiring harness, pump w/modulator.i rewired it and put the abs modulator on "not the pump" i kept the old one on.it ran fine but the heater control was clicking and my break "in dash" light came on.the heater problem seems to be gone, but the break light is still on.and then i was driving and then the problem with the cylinder that i have now accured...i hope at the most it's just the coil box and not the drive train.well i will talk to you soon...brian
brian flournoy If you are not getting a spark, you may need to replace your ignition coill. That may be causing your problem. For the p0174 error, you need to get a MAF sensor cleaner from autozone and clean your maf sensor. That is the first sensor located on your air intake after the air filter. Unfortunately, I have no experience on the other issues you brought up. You may also want to buy an OBD reader, they're really not that expensive on amazon and will save you lots of headache. Good luck!
Hi there, love the videos. I have a rough idle right now as well, planning to just replace all of the injectors and plugs as the vehicle is approaching 140k, and I don't think the previous owner did this job. What resistance should I get from the coils when I test them?
I don't know the specs for the coil, however, if you're having a rough idle, you may want to try the cheap option first like using an injector cleaner additive, cleaning the throttle body and the idle air control valve. If you do this, you may notice a smoother idle. Definitely replace the plugs, but I would hold off on the injectors.
Injectors were 65 for a set of 6 off of Ebay. I plan to do the plugs at the same time. I'll look into the IACV and how to clean that - I'll clean the throttle body while I have the plenum off for the injectors. Thank you so much for your videos, they inspire confidence in me to tackle jobs I am sometimes hesitant to start.
My 2004 Taurus Engine light just came on code I got was P0300...now recently roughly 2months ago I replaced all wires and plugs and coil pack .. any idea what could be problem ? or where should I check now ? because car runs good
+John Gee Check your egr valve for function, make sure thereis no blockage in the passage, check camshaft position sensor. I would also suspect o2 sensors but they're very expensive. I'd start with the first two parts I mentioned. A code P0300 may mean that one or more of the following has happened: Faulty spark plugs or wires Faulty coil (pack) Faulty oxygen sensor(s) Faulty fuel injector(s) Burned exhaust valve Faulty catalytic converter(s) Stuck/blocked/leaking EGR valve / passages Faulty camshaft position sensor Defective computer Read more at: www.obd-codes.com/p0300 Copyright OBD-Codes.com A code P0300 may mean that one or more of the following has happened: Faulty spark plugs or wires Faulty coil (pack) Faulty oxygen sensor(s) Faulty fuel injector(s) Burned exhaust valve Faulty catalytic converter(s) Stuck/blocked/leaking EGR valve / passages Faulty camshaft position sensor Defective computer Read more at: www.obd-codes.com/p0300 Copyright OBD-Codes.com A code P0300 may mean that one or more of the following has happened: Faulty spark plugs or wires Faulty coil (pack) Faulty oxygen sensor(s) Faulty fuel injector(s) Burned exhaust valve Faulty catalytic converter(s) Stuck/blocked/leaking EGR valve / passages Faulty camshaft position sensor Defective computer Read more at: www.obd-codes.com/p0300 Copyright OBD-Codes.com
oh great so no telling what it is ..Car Runs Great ,Good Speed, Only Very Slight Rumble or vibration you can feel. but one thing I have to noticed light only comes on if its cold. But I try what you suggested Check EGR & Camshaft Sensor & I Just Replace Oxygen Sensors just tp play it safe thanks
I think I may have a bad injector so I may try and fix the issue. I just have one question which is do you have to do something with the fuel before taken and reassembling the injectors such as bleeding ? Thanks Dean
I did not bleed the fuel rail but before we pulled an injector out, I wrapped it with a rag to make sure that any residual pressure won't cause fuel spill. Also, you can pull out the fuel pump relay and crank the car if you want to relieve fuel system pressure.
