I have a 2000 galant. I paid $2k cash for it. It’s a beater, but I love this car. Got me thru some tough times. Even lived in it for a bit. 😅 if you can find one in good shape it’ll get you thru some stuff. Good car
I just bought a silver 2001 Galant 2.0 saloon with stickshift and 211 000 km on the clock. I feel like the happiest man on Earth with this car. Love its looks, love how it sounds, love how it rides. Best car I've ever owned honestly and I've had two newer Mitsubishis but neither of them was a Galant.
I love the galant line it reminds me of a shark. Mitsubishi vehicles are above and ahead other japanese counterparts. These cars are just attractive and very well build. They have a touch of European slick aesthetics. Nowadays the Kia is doing the same with their slick aesthetics.
the CONS of the galant: easily curving brake discs the chassis and the body panels are made full of steel and galants tend to rust a lot. The rust usually is on the rear arches and on the rear of the chassis. The automatic transmission has a problem with the synchronization, because it's a self learning automatic transmission, where it learns your driving style, the problem there is, for example, you stopped driving like a maniac and then you are at a traffic light, turns green, you drive off it normally, and suddenly the car stalls. I believe that there is a fix on RU-vid, the only thing i know is that you have to do this fix every month or so. If it happens that you have an automatic transmission please change the oil of it, or else it will break. Because it's a Japanese car and it was cheap, the car doesn't have any noise insolation. Parts availability could be an issue. The suspension on the front and the back is multi link and it's soft. The car feels like a boat, and it's a little unstable with high speed. Also if you put bigger rims and lower profile tire, the control arm bushings will get shot and the actual control arms will bend. the PROS of the galant: unbreakable engine especially the V6 engines the whole interior is so freaking comfortable especially the leather variant is also good looking dirt cheap car to buy, easy to work with if it's not rusted replaceable parts with mitsubishi cars from that era The best scenario for the car is suspension and brakes from an evo, just keeping the car in garage in the winter and deep cleaning it sometimes...
As a Mitsubishi owner, I completely agree. I have no idea what happened to them, ever since the mid 2000s they started going downhill and some of their cars seem to be stuck in the past. Only decent cars they have nowdays are the Evo and the Outlanders
Engine was warm when he started it. Curious to hear what it sounds like when it's cold. The engine was presenting ping too, and sounded a bit lean. Timing could be off for the belt. Good note though, was the engine had it's exhaust manifold heat shield which are usually tossed during repairs.
***** Yes, but they can't compete because there's just too much competition now and consumers are choosing to buy those other cars. That's a shame, I've always liked Mitsubishi but it looks like they'll be packing their bags pretty soon.
J Gravitas They by themselves announced awhile ago that they have no plans to pack bags in the US, instead their plans are to offer more models for the US market.
@@tiadanama1998 I don't live in America so I'm curious. That kinda person usally buys a Mitsubishi? And is it just the Mirage that ppl buy or is it also something like a Pajero Sport?
I can hear the famous "valve tick" on these 4 cylinders. Even though it sounds bad there's nothing wrong with it, it's just the way they normally sound
i'm very pleased with these review. i have a 2002 galant myself it some of the interior is different. for us in america, 1999-2003 galants didnt come with the oh shit handles, adjustable rear headrest (just the fixed ones for the rear occupants) no center armrest in the back, no split fold seats(only a ski pass through on the right rear passenger seat), no dome lights for rear occupants (it became avaiil during the last model yr before the udate in 03), no trunk liner, but overall i've had my
hello all i want to buy a car . do u advice me to buy this type? I found its price in the KBB very low, and this makes me puzzled! why a good car has this price? i'll be appreciated for any advice or comment. thanks.
Yea I know but I mean like they put themselves in that situation. Back in the 90s Mitsubishi used to be a pretty good brand but then they started coming up with cars that usually were behind the competition. And they got rid of the Eclipse which I will never understand why because it was their best car after the Evo. They are planning to introduce a bunch of hybrid/electric cars in the next years, let's see how that works out for them.
Hey do you know if it's fine to use stp automatic transmission fluid mercon v (for use with certain Ford vehicles) with the 2003 Mitsubishi gallant? Will it mess up the car or would I be fine?

Even so forth, Mitsu did say last September that they are interested in reviving the Eclipse one day, but who knows... I always wanted an Eclipse for my first car, but the insurance would be too much...

Hi guys I have one , modil 2000 Galant , and there is problem in it , when I start to drive at 20 or 30 mile /h , the car start to be so rough, but in high speed it be smooth? ? Where is the problem please
Memo Memo the may by in the transmission as the engine wants to accelerate but the transmission isn't into gear properly causing the to move rough or it could the problem is the engine and if so should get the engine fixed or a new one because eventually the engine will not shift into the gear and cause the car to shut off, hope I was able to help you dude. ☺
galant for 8 years and i have 179,000 miles on it. its been very reliable. i have the same lifter tick but not that loud, maybe bc we have the 2.4L and u have 2.0L. check out my video reveiw of my Galant on my page
yes most GDI's has that problem I own a carisma out 2001 1.8 GDI it makes the same noise but when you drive a good long time it sounds better the best is to drive long distance whit this kind of engine short rides give it that bad sound
T_Coook it's actually not as the galant share the same engine as the evolution, and has some of it's parts, not sure exactly what other parts the galant and evolution share but the engine are for sure.
