IF YOU ATTEMPT THIS REPAIR FIRST AND FOREMOST DISCONNECT YOUR BATTERY AND MAKE SURE YOUR ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IS FULLY DISCHARGED. IF YOU ARE UNSURE HOW TO DISCHARGE YOUR SYSTEM LOOK IT UP ACCORDING TO YOUR MANUFACTURER SPECIFICATION. AIRBAGS CAN BE DANGEROUS AND EVEN DEADLY; THEY CAN EXPLODE UNINTENTIONALLY. WORK WITH CAUTION AND WORK AT YOUR OWN RISK.
In this video I show you how I repaired my 2004 Pontiac Vibe that had a bad blend door actuator. If you hear a clicking sound or tapping sound behind your dash when you press your recirculating air button, chances are your blend door actuator is bad. First and foremost, before performing any work on your vehicle, be sure to make sure your battery is disconnected. I am in no way, shape, and/or form responsible if you break, damage, and/or injure anything during your repair. This is simply a video showing how I removed my blend door actuator and replaced it. This repair should be the same for all 2003-2008 Toyota Matrix and Pontiac Vibe.
Tools Needed:
-Phillips Head Screwdriver
-Quarter Inch 10mm Socket
-Quarter Inch 12mm Socket
-Quarter Inch 7/32nd Socket
-Quarter Inch 4" extension
-Quarter Inch Ratchet

This worked like a charm. Thanks! I used a tip I saw on another video since I have really big hands. To pull the actuator screws, I wrapped a rubberband around the socket with no wrench. This gave me enough grip turn the little screws out and back in again with just my hand.

Thanks for making this. I am usually scared off by interior stuff but I managed this job in under 2 hrs. The hard parts for me were getting the side trim pieces to the doors back in place and dealing with the screws that hold the actuator in. a 5.5mm socket turning it by hand did the trick. Pretty fun actually to pull the whole dash out of the car.

This looks daunting but your video makes it seem quite doable. I’ll be tackling this in the next day or so. We’ll see how it goes.

I tried the "faster" way two years ago, bad itvtook forever. And I just had to feel it out and still only got one screw back in before I had to give up with the other. This longer way is bound to be much faster and allows me to do the job right. Which is a good thing as this part fails pretty much every year.

Remove the passenger air bag instead gives you same access from above. Only 1 electrical clip & 3bolts, all accessible with long extensions & socket set.

I have a 2004 Toyota Matrix. I watched your video and it looks like something I'd like to tackle. The problem is when I called O'reilly's and Auto Zone the part number you gave doesn't fit, ie. 604-132. The part number I was given was 604-905. Hope this helps!

Yeah, that is waaaaaay too much work! And guess what, the new one will fail all too soon as well. It's the stupid plastic gear teeth. What I did to fix the click it simply splice in the wiring a "momentary contact" push-button switch that hangs inside the glove box. I push the recirc button, then I push the momentary contact button until I hear the air flow change OR the clicking start. Release the button. Door is in new position, and now no electric to motor, so no clicking! When I push the recirc button to off, I push the momentary contact button again, listen for the air flow to change or the clicking to start again. Release button, no electric, no click, all is good. 3 pack of buttons is about $6. Did both my Vibes after replacing both motors that started clicking again before 1 year. This momentary contact button fix is 100% gonna stop the clicks for good! Sooooo much easier to do as well! I have done all the maintenance and repairs on my 05 & 06 Vibes. (except the air bags!)

Is there only one actuator door in the Pontiac Vibe or is there at least two more

This is most likely a failed clockspring behind your wheel. Very common failure and about 15 min job

Hi there, you need to get someone to scan the code and see what fault the SRS module is throwing them you can proceed in fixing it. Basically the code will tell you where to look and what to look for.

The nob on the left that controls where the air goes won’t turn on my car any idea how to fix it ??

If the knob feels like it is stuck and will not rotate. You most likely have a binding cable. If you take everything apart you should be able to look on the back side and follow the cable and see where it goes to. Either the cable is binding or the door that it connects to is stuck or has something jammed in it. A lot of times things will fall down the defrost vent and jam the door. The door I'm talking about should be close to the center of the dash.

@@TheInteriorAutoMechanic that makes a lot of sense definitely something jammed in that door your talking about! Thanks a lot!
