Bought a 2001 Spyder GT 5 speed fully loaded in May. Pouring money into engine, underbody welds up front and rust proofing. Yesterday was new alternator and pulley. Previous 20 year owner was a gal who had a lot of suspension and steering work done. New clutch, starter and battery too. Gonna paint it purple. Year or two new exhaust and tires. These things are quick with 5 speed, ride and corner great. I think the body style is sharp, better looking than many new German drop tops. She'll be a keeper. Very few 5 speed loaded Spyders for sale out there. I think they'll become a collector car in some years from now.
I got an '01 eclipse for $500 in June. I don't know much but ur vid def makes me feel so much more confident. I've been doing most of the fixes with my friend. Definitely getting addicted to it lol. Beautiful car!
Thanks for the video. I had the 2004 Chrysler version Sebring Limited, essentially the same car with the same engine and interior, with some moderate exterior body panel differences, Mine ran unbelievably great and handled great up until I collided with a huge Pronghorn Antelope at 80 mph. My canine lab-mix Sheila and I survived only by a miracle. So sad to see that great car completely destroyed in a fraction of a second. Insurance money replaced it with a 2004 Honda Accord EX 4 cylinder, also a great car with no problems, now with 240,000 miles runs like new. Not many people know that the 2004 Accord 4 cylinder has good power, fun to drive and has a drive chain instead of a belt, so they last forever with very few problems. To this day I have only repaired or replaced normal wear items with zero major repairs of any sort.
I'm planning to buy a 2003 model eclipse (1,35,000 miles ) in armenia, which has Recently replaced the pump, timing belt, thermostat, new accumulator, valve cover gasket, all filters, dry cleaning of the interior, mitsubishi white quin oil, new corrugation of the intake pipe, new bendex nozzles were sorted. On the car there are 18 Enkei led discs optics angel eyes EVA carpets red interior lighting. The owner is saying that On the technical side, all issues have been cleared. What is your opinion about buying this car? And if all this parts are changed how much time can i drive it without changing this parts? And if it is the stock engine, is the parts easily available in the market?
I got my car in the shop right now , I’m fixing up the suspension I can’t wait to drive my sexy eclipse 🥺 watching this vid is def how I feel about my car I love her
I enjoyed your video. I own a Dover White Pearl 3G Gts, manual....stock ....no mods .. very few dents ...Black interior, black leather seats, has almost 0 issues.....of course the dash has a two cracks as they all seem to have (it gives it character). I got about 10k more miles on it than yours .....still runs great looks great! I love this car too! I've owned it about 2 years . I plan to keep.....a real joy to drive!...much like your own. Good little scooter on the road. Thanks for the review
Aye that’s dope bro, glad to hear you have no issues with it. I actually sold this car and bought an 03 GT that was manual with only 80k so I’m building that one now
Just out of curiosity bro how much was it to replace the suspension, if you ever did that? I know it wouldn’t be the exact price but just to get a estimate. I got one just this Friday and I’m going to have to put work into it like the suspensions.
teno_drew it’s pretty simple to do it yourself. I did mine at home I’m actually posting a video on Wednesday reviewing the new coilovers but yeah it’s really simple just be prepared to possible replacing your sway bar end links in the front
I have a 2004 GTS . Its my 3rd one lmao. Love seeing ppl still running these . What kinda exhaust set up do u have? Sounds good af . I’ve been trying to make mine louder without getting that “ricer” sound to it. Oh and Btw .. my dash isnt cracked at all😂😂 just hit 105k miles
Great vids bro! This gave me so much hope! I’ve been rocking my 2003 GTS Eclipse since June 2002 when I graduated high school!! First car! Only car. QUESTION- so you said your transmission and engine were out of your own working vehicle and placed into this current car. My transmission AND the entire engine was rebuilt within the last 5ish years. Did you ever have any issues with the dang gaskets in your original engine? I had to get replaced gaskets at least 2x and they charged me near $1K since they take apart the entire engine. I’m wondering is there a way to decrease likelihood of it ruining the rebuilt engine? My engine is still original. And I get oil changed as I should and maintain everything but still I don’t want to deal with it again, just seeking some advice.
That’s awesome!!! I personally have not had any issues with the head gasket and it’s typically not a common problem among these cars. I had replaced my engine and transmission due to a rod knock in the original engine but I’m not sure if there’s a way to keep them safe rather than just keeping up with routine maintenance and not beating on it too hard
Dynomite wolf there is no room for a v8 you will need to do a shit ton of fab and it’s never been done before, the car itself is very reliable how it is tho
Hey, I found a great condition 00 eclipse GT in great condition with the automatic and manual combo transmission for 2700 should I get it? Same color as the one in the video
I bought this car 3 months ago for $300, and put $1500 into it so far in parts, but it's running pretty nice... Love the sound of the exhaust but it isn't as fast as it sounds ironically lmao... 4 speed automatic but it's fun to downshift manually
Engines are great, very reliable if maintained. Auto trans on the other hand Kind of suck, they have a bunch of problems and the manual is significantly quicker with the way the gearing is set up
Strut tower rust, check maintenance see if timing belt was replaced, if not replace it ASAP. And just regular maintenance, I’ve been told by many that these engines are damn near bulletproof when maintained well and I never had any issues as well so you should be good just check your fluids, strut towers and timing belt and you’re golden
I want the 6g75 due to the lack of aftermarket upgrades for the 6g72, I have found a full bolt on kit a guy is selling on Facebook but power gains are still unknown
I have an 02 civic as well and I can promise you the eclipse is way more fun and equally as reliable, I recommend getting a manual but yes get the eclipse the v6 is a ton of fun stock
Honestly I’m just a huge fan of the looks of the car, the uniqueness of it bc not many people build them anymore and the performance for a stock v6, manual in particular is very nice
Magmatt5 90 thousands😂 not the cars fault tho it just wasn’t take care of before me. I haven’t ever taken it to a shop either, everything fixed was done by my dad and I which has saved a ton
I have an 01 gt that I paid a grand for and these were on a 3000 gt when I found a set of koenig rims that purchased for $150.00 and I've been slowly building and putting $$$into it and I'm working towards doing the 3.8ltr mivec swap. I had a 2nd gen eclipse when I found this one both have their pros n cons.. but the 3rd gen eclipse just works better for me its alit more comfortable.. nice car great car you have there kid
Layton Smith depends, if you’re looking for one in good condition with less than 100k miles you’d be looking at around 3-4K but you can find decent ones that are a little bit roughed up but still have plenty of life from 1-2k or you can buy a shitbox and rebuild it like I did😂
@@michaelvigil5321 Dang that's cool. My likings have kinda shifted to the GT Mustangs 0-04 because they are way faster and much bigger vehicles, (probably safer in a wreck) and I just love them.
@@3GRacing11 definitely an engine swap since it has so many miles, I'll eventually get an exhaust, I need to install some hood pins since the hood doesn't close all the way lol
Miles aren’t too important as these engines are pretty reliable, just make sure the timing belt was done recently and it has had routine maintenance as it will save you a lot of future headaches, this one lasted 220k miles but you can find them around $1500-$2000 for a good one with only 100-120k miles
I got a 2003 Mitsubishi gt and I'm working to Improve it like yours I have a few dents when I bought it paid 1000 for it got to make sure the engine and transmission is all good before I put any money into it.
Frank Bardwell thanks man and yeah it’s a really fun car they are reliable as well as long as the routine maintenance was done to it! I just recommend changing your timing belt ASAP!
I mean I don’t have this car anymore I sold it and got a much better condition manual 03 Eclipse GT with only 80k miles, how much of a highball are you talking haha
@@epidemix5022 I’m not gonna rice any of them, all tasteful performance mods coming for the car, got a carbon fiber hood on it, coilovers just came in, have The very rare RIPP headers for the car and a full catback exhaust, just need a cai a tune and some paint and she will be mint
@@epidemix5022 damn bro, if I were to sell it I would definitely hit you up but I got too much behind the car to sell it now, got some very rare parts and sponsorships for it so It would be dumb to sell at this point😂
Got one for 1300$ It just had a little oil leak and the interior was a bit bad and there were some other problems like it took two trys to start up but it started up and drove good around. Picking it up tomorrow from the guy and it looks exactly like this one its just convertible though. It was also 144k miles kinda high but i hope it was worth the buy
Hope it goes well bro, watch for rust and make sure maintenance was done for things like the timing belt and regular oil changes ahead of time, hope it goes wel tho!
@@3GRacing11 Just took it back home after a 30 minute drive back home with it from the seller and now it doesn’t want to start it would start before now it doesn’t we changed the spark plugs but believe there is three more behind or under since its a v6. Any ideas why wouldn’t it start the engine cracks and wants to turn on but it wont
@@yuki5116 try the starter or alternator maybe, the three back plugs are under the intake manifold takes an hour or two to change them out, do some research on the forums as well they are club 3g
@@3GRacing11 You have anywhere i can contact you and you could list me them since you have more knowledge with these cars then me it would be appreciated
@@3GRacing11 oh nice. I wanted to smoke out my taillights on my acura but living in california there are new laws being made every minute😭😭 other states seem to lenient about it tho📉
Timing belt needs to be replaced every 60-100k mikes that is very important, auto transmission tend to go bad at fairly low miles as well. But I can’t stress the timing belt enough if you get one or have one and it hasn’t been changed recently change it
Hello I got a 03 and tell me what turbo can I put in it ,I got the gts spider, ours already got ,200 horse, what u think , email me , lewisoliver09@gmail.com, or anyone ,thanks
@@jello-va7622 for power gains it’ll be easier and cheaper to swap to the 6g75 from the 4g, you’ll make 300hp with just full Boltons and a tune and it’s a pretty straightforward swap, same mounts and everything
@@HoundXXII well for us car guys, yeah it does.... but for the ladies, they love it 🥳. I got so many compliments just because it looks like a “racing car” haha
Folks give the 2G eclipse way too much credit because at the end of the day the highest trim second generation eclipse only has seven more horsepower than the highest third generation eclipse. I have never driven a third generation eclipse but I do own a second generation and it's great fun but it's definitely overrated because as long as you're not running anything more than 10 lb of boost the cars aren't all that fast.
I agree with you, the 2nd gens get more credit because in all honesty the look better and are easier to make go fast but at the same time reliability is terrible and stock for stock they compete all around the same, my 3g is a mid 14 second car atm which is faster than a stock gsx
@@3GRacing11 I have a 2g GS spyder but when I put all the numbers up and looked at some videos ... The 2g's just have fam to keep them relevant but the 3g's and 4g's are the same power wise if not better when it comes to living every day and the comforts they offer.
@@3GRacing11 just sayin lol, you dont seem like someone with experience but yet that's the total opposite, I've torn apart so many Eclipses I know where every screw goes, what size, looks all that. Im only 16...
