Hey guys here’s my 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse and what you need to know before buying any generation eclipse!! They are a ton of fun and I’d recommend one to anybody! Make sure to like and subscribe and check out my latest videos!!
Just purchased an 01 spyder. Love the advice and hopefully you can put out a video of how to change the timing belt. I can’t seem to find a decent one. Keep up the good work.
Great Cars! I still have my 2000 Eclipse GS that I bought brand new the day after I saw the TV add for the 3G version. Besides routine maintenance, it has been very reliable with the only issue was with the clutch slave cylinder that started leaking at 90K miles but was inexpensive and easy to fix. It still has the original clutch and alternator and it is still my daily driver with almost 200K miles! (Ive also used only pure synthetic oil in it since after the initial break in period).
I have 4 cars in the fam. right now, I can honestly say my 2003, GTS 5 spd. is the most reliable car i've ever owned. It asks for nothing. I have 225K right now, drive to work 1 hour daily. and everything on it works as it should Timing belts, I only use the parts from the dealer. anything else I buy the cheaper brand, and I can say, it hasn't been much. there are so many original parts on this v6, it's simply amazing! anyone says they're not reliable never owned one, and is talking $hit
I used to have the same gen and trim eclipse, loved it but I picked it up with some problems. Fast forward 7 years, I now have a 2011 4g eclipse gs manual, and I love it just as much as my old 3g v6 manual. He's right in this video btw, the auto trans is not the eclipse you want. If you want an auto, get a lancer or galant. They make for better more practical dailies but are not that fun. Oorrr get a galant and swap it for a manual, it's pretty much a 4 door eclipse. Engine and trans/suspension is shared
I've had my 3G Eclipse GT for 6 years now I use it as my main daily. I just hit 59K miles. I wish there were more mods. I really only have Cold air intake, cat back, Lightened flywheel, Billet Crank Pully (Kinda wack) , Better Brakes (Just disks and Pads) , and head lights. My next mod wheel be air suspension and then wheels. but its been a fun car. I love taking it on long drives.
My 03 Mitsubishi is cheap on gas, it is a 4 cylinder GS but everyone LOVES it. Just changed the timing belt. So many sportscar are ugly or only a two seater which is a pain. Great for travel, the convertible top down, load it up and go. I also bought a 2008 Jaguar XKR, beautiful but expensive to run. Love having 2 cars than just one. If one is being worked on, I am always mobile. I always have a plan B in life.
I’d still consider the 3rd gen a DSM product considering dodge still used the same chassis and power trains for the stratus and stratus R/T as the Eclipse and galant of the same years
Someone is selling a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT coupe 2D, 88,400 miles for 2.5k. No problems stated jus says runs good drives good so I’m gonna go take a look at the car this weekend and I don’t know much about cars especially an eclipse so thanks for your video and your replies to other people cuz I read those too😭 wish me luck
I like my 2001 . It has a four banger. Automatic. It's great on gas. Daily driver. Still going good 138,000. Time to start fixing stuff. Timing belt for sure.
@@3GRacing11 just took off the exhaust manifold. Replaced the metal gasket. The shop before be , after fixing a engine block heater, was smelling bad inside. Seems better. But still smelling exhaust living on a hill. Maybe I will add a 9inch exhaust tip. These ( fourth I have owned) are ideal for working under the hood. No obstructions when working on. Actually a pleasur
I got the 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS V4 it’s pretty quick tbh and so good in gas I put Premium lol it lasts me like 2 weeks and I just need to change the fuel pump and radiator and That’s it
More after market support you say? Well you’d have to get a time machine & go back when they were new, I regret not buying certain parts when I bought mine in 2006
I have an 8th gen Si and I’ve fully built it. Cams, skunk 2 exhaust, cold air, throttle body, headers, engine mounts, tuned on dyno with hondata and some more. I love the si but really Thinking about getting something new to build on. I’ve always loved the 3g eclipse. How well does it handle a n/a build? Would it make good power like my si?
Damn bro that’s dope!! Have you tracked it before?? But honestly the v6 parts are kind of hard to come by. Not many people have made them fast but 250-300whp is achievable with bolts ons an intake plenum swap a new throttle body and a good tune and then throw some nitrous at it and it will get well over 300 but idk about reliably lol. My car makes about 230-240 untuned rn and I have yet to have any issues
That’s pretty awesome! Yea I love you’re build. I haven’t had a chance to go to the track because the closest one is over an hour away but I have gone to the strip and we do have some twisty turns where I live. It’s pretty awesome seeing how my car compares to others and even my friends stock si. I’m definitely gonna get a 3g after my build is done for the si. I’ve done everything performances wise other then hypertech pistons, rods and retainers. Not sure if I wanna go that far yet. But for now doing some cosmetic stuff like carbon fiber hood, touch up the paint and new rims. The previous owner had the mugen parts put on like the suspension and other things. My friend thinks it has the k20z4 because of how different our power but I’m not really sure.
They are great bro gets good gas mileage and is fun to drive just try to get a manual. And I love the gst and gsx. Definitely want to add one to the channel in the future
I bought an ‘03 GT Spyder 5 Speed almost 2 months ago and so far I’ve done the timing belt, water pump, and I’m about to do the spark plugs and valve cover gaskets. I bought and installed a cold air intake but I’m considering putting the stock one back on since some people have told me the stock one with a high flow air filter would be the better. Also originally I was trying to make a project car but this is my daily so I’m trying to keep it fuel efficient. Anything other upgrades you’d recommend I do?
Aye great job bro, if you want to use the cold air intake it will be fine with a tune, either way I’d recommend getting a tune as it increases ab 10-20hp even completely stock and better fuel efficiency I’ve heard as the car runs rich stock
@@3GRacing11 would you recommend I buy or fabricate some sort of box/cage for the air intake? Some people have said I risk hydrolocking the engine since the cold air intake is pretty low. I mean, I usually don’t drive in puddles anyway and I can’t drive in the rain since my convertible top leaks like crazy lol. Also I’m considering taking out a fog light (since mine don’t work anyway) and using that as a channel to the air filter, since the cold air intake sits right behind it.
For whatever reason my 03 gts is prone to valve cover gasket leak every 3 years or so. Any suggestion how to get it fixed where it lasts as long as it lasted when new? Is replacing front and rear vcg something i can do without lifts and air tools?
I found a brand new 2003 eclipse GS brand new condition with 9,500 miles garage kept asking price for 7,500, my goal is to get the price down to 5,500 is that a good deal?
This might be a stupid question. Just bought an 03 eclipse gts. Everything's good. Fixed the oil leak. Now just paying attention to little things to keep it nice. Does the sunroof open all the way or does it just pop up like it does here in the video? My project camry has a sunroof that pops up aswell as goes under the roof and opens all the way. My eclipse sunroof is stuck shut right now. So just wondering if it opens all the way or is just popped.
I'm planning on getting a manual V6 3g for some basic modding and daily driving, so I probably won't be putting a turbo in it. Would you recommend trying to get a GT or a GTS?
They are pretty much the same thing, the GTS has ab 10 more horsepower but they still have very similar 0-60 and quarter mile times so either way you are good, I got the Gt because I don’t like the leather seats
Coming from a gts owner, it really depends. Gts are 10x more of a pain to work on, and if you tune and do some basic bolt ons the 10+ hp will be negligible in the long run. If you keep it mostly stock then the gts is a nice car.
I have a question, I just picked up a 2002 Eclipse 4 cylinder, it is a convertible. My brother said all convertibles were spiders. Is this true? I picked it up for a steal of a deal.
The ones like in the video are nearly 20 years old. I will say that you probably aren't going to find one in excellent condition and low miles so if you can find one for $3000 and have $2000 available for new work. I was thinking of just giving mine to the junk yard because I let it set up for awhile but I decided to paint it myself with spray paint which I'm hoping to keep around $300. I recently learned that I can change the carpet for $200-$300 and it doesn't look to do myself. The biggest issue I have had with this car is the floorboards getting wet from either A/C drain backing up, sunroof leak, or both. According to one mechanic, its really easy for leaves to get in the drain system with this car so I would advise not parking under a tree and covering it if possible.
I wanna purchase one as a first car but owner says that it has had valve cover gasket, rear main seal, timing cover seal, and motor mounts worked on and is asking for 4K should I go for it or no? Any advice thanks
Man I get so freaking exited every time I see your videos cause I got a eclipse 2001 Gs spider, is a 4 cylinder but I don’t matter I am still a kid 🥲🥲 but I was youse wondering can I modify my car since is youse a automatic or it only works on standards …🥲 My point is if you can actually modify automatic cars….youse asking cause I don’t really now that much of cars 🥲🥲…
You can modify any car you want, the auto is a bit slower but can still be modded and made quick, there’s plenty of mods for both auto and manual it all works generally the same
I got an 05 Eclipse 4 banger with very low mileage (54k). I love my car but it's an auto. Wish it was a stick shift and had a stronger engine. Don't know if it's worth it to do transmission swap and getting a whole new engine (Evo 8 head).
@@3GRacing11 i found a 2002 with a v6 auto, are they really less reliable than the manuals or just less fun? personally the slight speed difference doesn't really matter to me
@@jugger8486 the auto trans is weaker than the manual trans and has more issues. They still can last a long time if taken care of and the car is still fun regardless but I prefer manual personally
@@3GRacing11 truth the eclipse is a good car just finding aftermarket parts for the V6 is a pain because the V6 was only made to replace the 3000gt but ultimately failedand I give credit where it's due the lancer post 2008 even the base models were good just having the time and money to take care of the car is a pain one of the big ups about the car is all of the parts are interchangeable from the DE up to the Evo even the 2.4 parts fit the 2.0 engine and given you can get 200hp from a base engine with no turbo with the right add ons and tune
@@3GRacing11 the car market here is horrible rn would u suggest jus financing a new civic? coz tbh that's prolly the best option coz second hand cars here are marked wayyy up
Anybody know anyone that wants to buy an eclipse? I have a 2003 Eclipse GTS Spyder convertible for sale with 33k original miles. Message for pics. Thanks
What he dosent mention in the video on how much of a pain in the ass it is to work on the engine of the car. Unless u have small hands and alot of patience. I would never recommended on buying a eclipse
It’s really not that bad man, just gotta know what angle to go in at and what to take off to get to what you need. The headers were a nightmare but other than that it’s all fairly simple but to each their own
Can't buy these unless you got money. Most teens that want these and get these abuse them and are hard on em. hence money to rebuild them to actually enjoy em for cruising instead of neutral dropping auto's acting like they are Brian O'Conner. they are diamonds for sure
Dude what😂😂 the manual eclipse is 100x better than the auto. I’ve had both it is significantly quicker, way more responsive and more fun too. If you don’t know how to drive just say so
2001 Eclipses GT with 265k original miles. 2nd owner, and have owned since 08. The only major repair has been the transmission rebuild, (automatic), but even that wasn't too expensive compared to others. My 3g is my ole faithful. 🩷 Misseclipse
