Two of the top 2 candidates for the 2003 season MVP the Big Ticket and the Big Fundamental battle it out in SA! www.basketball-reference.com/... KG: 24p/18r/8a/5b/1s 12/21 FG TD: 29p/12r/3b/2a/1s 12/21 FG 5/6 FT
Miss this era of the NBA!! No one’s complaining about being fouled! Refs aren’t blowing the whistle, every time there’s contact! At this point they’re playing “flag basketball” in the NBA.
Man these were the days!!!! Great Match ups every night in the paint KG, Duncan , Webber, Dirk, , Even Karl Malone even though he was getting close to the end.
@@edwinafamefuna4383no way. Jordan's era had the celtics lakers rivalery and greatest era for big men. Lebron's era (modern era) had all time great squads like the 2017 warriors, 2013 heat, 2014 spurs and even the 2019 raptors.
@@boggsmalinao Nobody in these comments ever watched McHale play and probably don't even know who he is. Best offensive post player of all time. I'll put him at the 5 spot
That's why NBA back then was fun to watch. Both players were competitive and focused on helping their team to win, but if they were playing in today's NBA they would've both been fouled out by the end of the 3rd quarter!
After this game the Spurs went 12-2 to close the season, catching the Mavs for best record, and in the playoffs went 16-8 to clinch their second championship.
I miss this type of basketball. Great defense, passing, rebounding, offensively fundamental. So many games in the playoffs now are being won by blowouts. Games being decided in the last two minutes are becoming more rare every year. It makes for a weakened product. I was blessed to see Jordan in his prime, among so many other greats. The competitiveness of the 80’s-2010’s was amazing.
Love when you shoot and you are in your rhythm, and it’s one of them ones where feels smooth and the ball hits the back of the rim and just goes Doong!! And goes straight down, like not a swish but bounces straight down after hitting bottom of the rim!
I never thought there was much of a Gap between Timmy and KG. This game at least early on looked like a clear difference of who was able to impose they will on the other one.
I wonder how people would rate KG’s legacy if he’d come into the NBA playing for an elite coach, alongside other all-star teammates and a top organisation
@@ziginaigra KG was a more versatile defender, could guard 1-5 in his early years. Duncan was a better 4-5 defender and a better anchor. He was also elite for longer (should have won DPOY in 2013 as well as 3 straight in 2000-2003). Rebounding is a wash.
oh shut up! no reason to discredit one player to swing from the nuts from your favorite. Duncan was the Spurs their dynasty began when he got their so your point is nonsense. just a hater spewing shit
How? KG better shooter, more range, better handles, better face-up off the dribble game and better passer... Duncan was just stronger and wider which allowed him to play with his back to the basket and absord contact better around the paint, but i don't know how that made his game more 'polished'...
@zennihilator3724 Tim had more post moves and better foot work. He always knew how to get to his spots, and he had a move and countermove for every situation.
@@ArcadianGenesis Perhaps, but to me the key factor was that Duncan simply had more mass, which is an essential component in being able to establish beneficial position down low and finish through bumps and contact... Garnett was simply too skinny to pound down low which was the meta game in the late 90s and early 2000s when KG was at his peak... He was probably 25 pounds lighter than Duncan and generally built like a SF... Hence why a lot of KG's arsenal of post moves featured various set-ups that ended in a tournaround jump shot... His ability to use footwork and spin over either shoulder and shoot effecitvely over the defense was better than Duncan... But he didn't get nearly as many easy opportunites to score down low like Duncan could with his mass, which is why ultimately Duncan was able to be more efficient. It was not necessairly because he was more 'skilled', it's just he was better built for the inside game and developed the post moves and hooks shots to complement it, which Garnett couldn't because he couldn't get in deep enough positions to use hook shots etc. I think if Garnett was in his prime in like the mid 2010's, when the game moved away from a slow-paced post-centric offense with 2 Big man on the court, to a game with more space, more pace we'd seen an even better version of him... Which is scary to think, because this dude won the MVP in 2004 playing a brand of basketball on offense that left a lot on the table for a guy with his skillset.
Two great players. KG always fun to watch. Just a no nonsense player. Went out and did his job. Finally won a chip in Boston but, his Minnesota years were great!!!
Whooaaa! Damn KG tried to send that into the Stratosphere with that Swat! Lol, I miss them days NBA was so good back then and KG my all time fave Big Dude, but Tim and him was always a awsome rivalry they both brought out the best in eachother when they gaurded eachother, how he was able to get that bucket n get it up and over KG at full stretch and in the Air too, Damn!
This was good ol' basketball, not this LeFlopping, and LeCrying we see today. Man, do I miss these days. Thank you for the video. It brought back memories.
I'm fine with either. Only thing I don't like about today's game is less emphasis on the mid-range jumper where I think it's a big part of basketball. Too many 3's being hoisted up.
@@JohnDoe-vj9dv All these lame Lethis and Lethat comments. LeBron is phenomenal and it's a gift to those that have seen him played all these years to have watched his brilliance on the court. No player is perfect and LeBron isn't. But he's a decent guy, team player and a legend of the game no matter what the lame haters write on social media.

@@edwells4769Actually no, Tim suffered a torn meniscus in 2000. That's why he missed the playoffs in 2000, and he considered parting ways with San Antonio when his contract expired. Then he made one of the best recoveries from that injury ever, re-signed with the Spurs, and the rest is history.
If KG have gone LA over Boston, he could have won at least 3 or 4 Rings. Him and Kobe would destroyed the League with Defense and Offense. From 2008 to 2014 would be their reign. KG would have been a top 3 Power Forward of all time.
man i miss late 90s early 00s nba, Power fowards and centers were tough, defense was tough, post moves and so much fun to watch tactical games, now its all about shouting 3... nothing more. boring af.
@@ziginaigrabeing overrated comes with hype. TD was never hyped, media in general never talked about him EXCEPT when it's time to talk about the greatest or best of all time or hall of fame discussions. And yes he PLAYED as a center MOST of the time SINCE david robinson retired, but his natural position was already determined and he was already in the discussion of greatest PF of all time before his time playing as a center MOST of the time.
IIRC, the Timberwolves and the Spurs tied their regular season faceoff (2-2). This fourth and final meeting ends San Antonio's mini-winning streak and one of few taints of that strong run into catching Dallas with the league's best record. The Wolves had a brief lead over the Lakers in the first round (2-1). That would be "alarming" if not David Stern announced few days before the start of postseason first round has also become a best-of-seven affair. That series concluded as KG's seventh consecutive first round exit. San Antonio dealt with Phoenix, a Spur headcase (Suns winning regular season match 3-1), with a hard-earned 4-2 series win (first round), then dethroned the Lakers all the way to franchise's 2nd "Larry".
KG was the first #1 option big, I literally saw play and guard all 5 positions and literally did everything for his team. There's a reason why he was known as the "Big Ticket" in his Minnesota days.
KG and Timmy are real superstars: can dunk, shoot, block, assit, rebound. Look at overrated Zion and bust Simmons who can't shoot 2 or 3 but the medias praise they too much
@@Wavystarj prime KG is better than giannis. The reason why giannis has a good stats is because NBA today are too soft. imagine back then you can do zone defense effectively. If they zone giannis he will have a hard time to score to the basket. today you cant do zone defense perfectly because of defensive 3 sec. violation.
Wish KG would've been able to square off against Duncan with an actual team... looking at this game, it's laughable looking at who's with Duncan (Tony Parker, ginobli, David Robinson, Steve Jackson, bowen , etc) and who's with KG (szerbiak, Anthony peeler, Joe Smith lol)... by the time he went to Boston he wasn't the same player
Only player who ever won more than 1 title without an All-NBA teammate and he did it 4 times KG never won a playoff series unless he had 2 20 PPG scorers with him 😂
My hot take is we'd be talking about KG as the best PF ever if him and Duncan swapped teams. There wasn't anything Duncan could do that KG couldn't. Duncan was more technical as KG was athletic was the only difference in playstyles. Both great defenders and both had a nice outside game and post up. Then to their franchises. KG was paired with mediocre coaches and locker room divas and cancers in Marbury and Sprewell and Duncan got a mentor in Robinson and got a no bullshit coach in Pop with a core that grew into all stars.
Duncan is a great player, but for me he was boring to watch, but K.G. had style, his dunks were legendary, and his play was so dynamic. He was fun to watch,KG is one of my few favourites.
@@PersianSelection KG had 7 30+ point playoff games his whole playoff career, Duncan had 35 KG never won a playoff series unless he had 2 teammates average almost 20. Duncan won a title in 03 almost averaging as much as his 2nd and 3rd leading scorers combined They aren’t comparable
@@hardwoodthought1213 Don't just cherry pick stats that favor your narrative without any context whatsoever. I can tell you right now, you either know nothing about basketball or you weren't old enough to watch back in the day. Either way, it would be a complete waste of my time to break down how incorrect what you just said was.
imagine believing "having 20 point+ scores" is the benchmark for measuring how great a team is, esp considering how those Spurs teams were designed/operated. Not gonna waste my time here...
Social isolation is a state of complete or near-complete lack of contact between an individual and society. It differs from loneliness, which reflects temporary and involuntary lack of contact with other humans in the world.[1] Social isolation can be an issue for individuals of any age, though symptoms may differ by age group.[2] Social isolation has similar characteristics in both temporary instances and for those with a historical lifelong isolation cycle. All types of social isolation can include staying home for lengthy periods of time, having no communication with family, acquaintances or friends, and/or willfully avoiding any contact with other humans when those opportunities do arise.
