Talents and interests beyond basketball. Started out as a swimmer. Likes collecting and restoring old cars. And Pop looks up to him. Man has a lot to hang his hat on.
I have so much respect for Duncan. He’s just a player. Not a crying baby, not an emotional monster. He didn’t complain or cry, or throw punches throughout any of this. He got shoved and thought, “I’ll just outplay him. I’ve done much better in my career. I can’t stoop down to his level.”
Im a spurs fan, timmy's signature move for us is him complaining to the refs lmao. It has been a running joke to spurs fans that timmy never commited a foul.
Your argument is somewhat flawed. In Shaq's prime, it was basically also Duncan's prime. So to basically make your argument even better, let's put prime Timmy against Cousins in this game. It would be laughable lol. Tim would eat his breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert. And make him cry lol.
Miguel Escobar He is the best center in the game but he didn't bully Duncan at all. He was drawing offensive fouls and didn't get called for it. Cousins will never be a better player than Duncan period.
Ron Artest (or whatever his name is now) said it best: “I remember one time Kevin Garnett was mushing him, and shoving him in the face; and Tim Duncan didn’t do anything, he didn’t react. He just kicked Kevin Garnett’s ass, and won the damn championship. You know what I’m sayin’? That’s gangsta. Everybody can show emotion, dunk on somebody, scream and be real cocky; but Tim Duncan is a…he’s a pimp.”
Dans Jaegers rings, like that`s all that matters. incase you didn`t know rings are won by teams, not players. want proof, duncan has a miniscule impact on today`s spurs where he is a role player now, but spurs are still a really good team. it`s the system and how they use their players. and no1 mentions bill russel as goat despite him having most rings. if you were to judge both players on game, no doubt kg has more game. kg was a better shooter, ballhandler, had better faceupgame, better defender (could guard peremiter players), was more athletic, etc. they were roughly equal in terms of rebounding and post game. so again, how was duncan better?
Also (Spurs fan & SA resident here) as Chauncey Billups once revealed: Tim Duncan used a trick where he would grab you & hold you down with the other arm he wasn't blocking with. Billups called Tim the "King of that."
+Miguel “ChipotleGaming” Escobar because he walks around like he can kick everyone in the world's ass. he thinks he can even kick your ass i am sure...he thinks he is that tough.
+Shawn Johnson dude shut tf up. Cousins is a top 10 player and changed his attitude . He want to win but is on a losing team wouldn't you be mad ? Just cause you see him frustrated don't mean you know him
One of the reasons the Tim Duncan era Spurs got five rings is that they were professional and level-headed with Duncan setting the example game after game. It wasn't about showboating or being badasses, but executing and winning. I've always respected the Spurs for the way they played. Total class.
Welcome to Duncan's School of Humility, yes that bell was for you Mr Cousins. Timmy, Thanks for all you did to represent San Antonio. You will be missed. Onto the HOF.
This game was on November 9th of 2012, a week into the 2012-13 season. Duncan won this battle easily; 23 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, and 5 blocks.
@@furkankaracan2076 barring cousins, GSW was healthy coming into the season, having almost the whole team suffer Injuries by the end of the season is a load management/coaching problem. Toronto's staff did a fantastic job at keeping the team healthy. So while yes, GSW would have had a winning chance if everyone was in tip-top shape, theoreticals is not how the NBA works.
Michael Scott a few inches?! Try about a whole foot shorter Cousins is 6’10 so a few inches would 6’7/6’8 and that’s around the average height for an NBA player
I don't know why ppl are hating on Cousins in this video. Yeah duncan owned him, but hes also one of the greatest PF's of all time. Atleast Cousins didn't back down and played hard
To anyone that doesn't know demarcus cousins this game was screaming out Tim Duncan can't guard me.Once he said that pop told Tim Duncan to iso demarcus cousins 13 times Tim Duncan scored on 11 of them.So Tim Duncan shut demarcus Lil cry baby ass up
They thought they can outplay tim because he is old.. He just saving some energy to the right occasion.. Bad ass Tim Duncan is a Michael Jordan at heart, he is just silent..
*That's the difference between a thug and a real athlete with a sense of fairplay and sportsmanship ! Duncan is respected by everybody ! These street trash though !*
Politically Incorrect ignorant. Sure cousins was emotional because not only was duncan playing good defense but his teammates were closing driving lanes and stuff and cousins didn't have very many bailouts or secondary options so of course he got frusturated. That isn't to say that he wasn't fouling because he was. Maybe youre right. Idk what the exact definiton of thug is but it seemed personal with you when there are people doing much worse things in the world
I hope Cousins doesnt win the ring in next year but if they do i hope Cousins his injured and sitting out. So then he can say i won a ring just sitting on my ass hahaha like he didnt do shit to help the team only sat on his ass. Stay injured cous !!!!!
dwayne601 Well, neither happened here. what happened was Boogie tried and failed to bully Duncan. Duncan stayed composed, blocked Cousins a few times, and largely let Boogie embarrass himself while cruising to get another loss. I like Boogies game and think he's a nice guy. But you'd think he of all people would know how vulnerable he is. You can see his heart strings from orbit and can pay them like fiddle if you know how.
Timmy was a beast. There isn't another player in his era that meant so much to his team or that the team needed that player. Kobe had shaq, great duo. Timmy was the epitome of what a franchise team player is.
Duncan wasn't even complaining about the fouls. I can't think of any other player in NBA history who won't complain in that situation. He was one of the most professional player who committed to basketball not just like a game, but a job.
Six years later... Golden State is the team to beat Demarcus Cousins joins the Warriors Kawhi leaves SA Goes to Tor and win a ring first year against Demarcus Tony Parker joins Manu and Duncan in retirement 🥺
Saw an interview with Cousins the other day where he talked about Duncan. Basically said that of all the bigs he ever faced, Duncan was the one guy he just couldn't do anything about. Spent several minutes praising him, saying as a young guy he was used to being able to dominate anyone either physically or skill wise, but with Duncan he just couldn't figure him out, he was on a next level compared to anyone else, and the toughest guy he ever faced. I can respect someone who gets beaten this badly, yet still gives praises and doesn't cry about it after.
Mike Shinn I understand this video is a hate thread for Cousins, but saying he has a lack of iq is pure asinine. After Joker and Marc, he’s the best passer the C position . Playing without emotions, he makes very sound decisions. This wasn’t one of those games though.
I've learned more bball iq from Timmy as a power forward for my Intramural only thing I've seen from cousins is be a bully and ashow off and the cry like a babay
@@withinyamind It shows that at the highest level talent and genetics dont make you the best. You gotta add more like being smart and in control of yourself plus hard work. Duncan is the embodiment of smart and consistent play. If you cant do the right plays at the highest you wont win a ring ever by expecting to get good teamates. Cousins got no rings even after taking a veterans minimun and didnt even contribute a lot on the playoff run with the Warriors. He wanted to ride the bus to get a ring. He was too heavy for the GSW. Cousins has no work ethic. All he needed to do was play good defence. For a so called superstar he cant even dominate the paint now that he is getting old and younger and stronger players are coming in.
I think it's a fat guy that some shitty team from California, that's not the lakers or GS, builds their team around even though he barely shoots 40%, averages nearly 4 turnovers a game, and averages the most shots per game(& needs 24 to score 26 points)with the highest usage rate in the league.
How old is TD and how old is Cousins? Duncan has always had good teammates and this year is prob Cousins' best team (which is still just ok). Cousins is probably the best center right now.
To his credit, Boogie can actually bully most of today's NBA big men.. But Duncan is probably the worst player besides Jordan in the history of NBA to try to bully... He just won't get triggered... his psychological strength is through the roof. AND even at 40 years old or so is still good enough to destroy anyone in 1 game... Poor Boogie lost his judgement cause he can't control his emotions.. I still like the way he plays though and seems to have good intentions.
Huge Spurs fan but anyone saying Cousins sucks is just wrong. He's a great player, he just needs to be more mature, which is something he's improving at. That said, these were definitely offensive fouls lol, no argument there
this shit happens all the time... and we just move past the fact that the nba is casually rigged. it's so obvious. they want games to be competitive so the refs favor the underdog. there's no way people don't see this right? it's gotta be like how they barely call traveling and no one cares cause it makes the game better in the long run
After this year’s playoffs I have so much respect for the fact that he didn’t flop, throw his arms in the air, give up on the play and argue with the ref.
+Alex K Actually Duncan destroyed Cousins all game long. Those shots they showed Cousins getting while committing offensive fouls were two of maybe 4 baskets he actually got that night. Here's the box score: www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/201211090SAC.html
PJH199 1 prime Duncan sure but prime Cousins a few seasons ago is clearly better than 40 year old Duncan the circle jerk hate for cousins is just too strong in these parts I suppose
I wish I was as chill as Duncan is, he's that kind of players who will trash talk with his skills and his results, he never replies to provocation. Farewell to one of the greatest and most humble souls to have played this amazing game. May his legacy never be carried by douche bags like Cousins
Not a Spurs fan and never was, but Duncan is one of the most class acts in the history of the game. Best PF ever, true talent and a career of success and respect.
+Leo Pulkkinen i agree. no respect and patients but the man can work hard and his fundamentals are actually pretty sweet in the post. Dudes dangerous. They just arent as smooth and effortless like The Big Fundamental's fundamentals in every aspect of the game.
@almadeunrebel. Also if he wasn’t so injury prone man who knows where he would be rn. A multifaceted big who’s for the most part a jack of all trades. I think I’d still take Jokic over him though.
I really wish the league would've found a way to feature Duncan more. He quietly made a bid for best PF of all time while setting as good of an example as anyone. The NBA should've really highlighted his character for younger generations.
Theo lucas hey Theo, sorry man. Just a gut response but probably not 100% fair. Some guys act like they want to impress people with how “bad” they are and that’s the vibe I get from some players. How would you say that without coming off as too judgmental?
Theo lucas the single parent home issue is a real problem though and I like to see more men stand up for their families instead of just looking for shallow sex based flings.
Tim Duncan has gone up against so many amazing big men and has so much experience Im sure this isn't the first time something like this has happened to him. But I still love the way Duncan handled himself (and Cousins)
vincent hicks KG is a fake tough guy. Smoke and mirrors with KG. Don't get me wrong, he was a great player, but he never actually got into fights in the NBA. He was all talk when it came to fighting.
I think most people don’t understand how big and strong Duncan actually is. He was just a very versatile and skilled Center that could play the 4 spot.
