Great, no nonsense video. Owner of 2003 Sequoia (=Tundra) with 300k miles. FWIW: Parts book lists two types of brakes -- 4.7 inch (Caliper Casting No. S13WE) and 5.3 inch pads (Casting No. 13WL). Gotta look before you buy (mine=5.3). Keep the old springs handy because the new ones may not fit right (job I just did had new spring that were too long and I had to use the ones I just took off).

@@backyardchevy328 does this sequoia have the upgraded brakes? I have an 01 and I've done the brakes a few times and can't get rid of this shimmy it makes slowing down from high speed. Doesn't do it all the time but does it enough to worry me. Rotars and brakes replaced and it still does it. I know there vehicles have inferior brakes and rotars causing a recall but I don't understand how these were like this from the factory I've heard. Is this going to be a deeper problem most likely
@backyardchevy328

@@IAMINVECTIVE any chance u can feel when u brake at slow speeds, if u notice that the brakes grab and release or steady grab under light pedal..if they grab release then its most likely something related to brakes..if not..then u might check ur bushings on control arm they can also trigger some vibration when braking
@IAMINVECTIVE
@IAMINVECTIVE 2 года назад
@@backyardchevy328 thank you I have thoroughly inspected it I can't see any flaws. I know after a Google search these cars had this issue in 2001 from the factory because the brakes are inadequate causing premature wear and warping of the rotars they recalled them and upgraded brakes to the newer ones from the 02-03 model. It doesn't shimmy or shake at any other speed only about 60mph to slowing down to a stop it will shake really hard and then if I let off a bit and re engage
@IAMINVECTIVE
@IAMINVECTIVE 2 года назад
@@backyardchevy328 it will stop shaking at that point. I'm almost positive it has to be the brakes but it only does it at certain speeds making me wonder. It's been a deep dive and can't figure it out I'll try to make a video of it and load it and see if that helps :) I appreciate your time

Holy hell this is true. My simple pad job turned into a disaster because of rust. Turned out the rotors weren't good on the back side also. The calipers were rusted so bad the caliper pins had no chance of coming out and the pistons wouldn't return. The metal lines were rusted and broke. The bolt holding the rubber to metal line bracket broke. 5 f******* hours and $500 later, it's done but now I got a ton of air in the lines.

Is that pin the only thing keeping the pads off the rotors? My brakes were worn to the metal and were making contact with the rotor without me pressing the brake. I thought the caliper was stuck but but all 4 pistons wiggled. The pin was in bad shape and actually too small. Maybe that was the problem? How can that little pin push apart such heavy pads?
@backyardchevy328
@backyardchevy328 4 года назад
Well the pins keep the brake pads aligned..but they could cause the brake pads to stick if the pins are bent or corroded to the point the brake pad cant slide back and forth..were both sides on same caliper worn to metal or just one side on same caliper? The pins dont push back the brake pads..a good caliper releases the pistons a lil everytime u press the pedal then let go allowing the rotor to spin freely..but a bad caliper wont let the pistons retract cause theyll stick at that point..so a good way to test this is to press ur brake pedal then let go and spin it if its not 4wd it should spin freely(if not ur caliper is sticking)

@domreaper5936
@domreaper5936 3 года назад
@@chieflouie2821 that is a correct amount of mileage for rotors and pads to last. A lot of factors take into account t hot weather climate Vs medium to cold weather like Alaska. Other factors that contribute is all city driving 50/50% city highway driving and 90/10 % highway to city driving. I could list many scenarios but you get my picture. Other manufacturers pads last 30-40 thousand miles. The size and how much braking also contribute. Typically brakes go out 40,000 to 50,000 if you got 60,000 that’s great. Normally what contributes to a warped rotor is the discard thickness was met and the heat eventually over time warped it. That’s how any warped rotors happen. Typically I’ll see from after market complaints are warped rotors after 6-10 months or complaint of squeal from braking. Toyota has 2 choices a original oem version and a true value version. It’s almost half the price of the oem choice so beware . Sometimes you can get that squill if you drive down a road go about 25-35 mph then in multiple attempts, hard braking it will hopefully take off that smooth surface it’s created giving you that noise. Don’t ride the brakes to a long stop but don’t lock tires where your skidding. Try that approach. Good luck.
