Awesome man!. Reach out If you need any basic stuff, I could probably do about five videos a day on everything from bulldozers to aircraft(Bell H-1/ 212) to dirt bikes.
Hey Bill, I’m from the future. 🙂 You seem like a Very Nice Guy. Thank you for all your patience and helping people in the comments with their bikes. 👍Nice
Oh wauw thanks dude ! I'm working on a friends bike he bought one that was totally scrap... took this one out now without paying attention to the position of that spring. So i'll check this handling first and move on !!
Awesome vide. I was wracking my brain trying to figure out what I did wrong when changing the clutch on my boys bike. (Was not aware of the alingment mark.) Had it all back together and the clutch wouldnt work. Im going to have to check the clutch plates too. I thought they were all the same. Didnt know the outside one was different from the rest. I just put them in. Again, thanks.
Good vid Bill, I noticed at 2:47 that your kick gear clip is in the wrong place. The loop parts is supposed to sit in the U shaped part of the housing on the right, not the V in the case as you have it. Not sure how if it would even be noticeable or not but thought I'd point it out in case something acts up on your kicker in the future.
Thanks. I typically pull the kicker gear out, but this was done for a buddy of mine real quick. I reset that spring prior to closing it up. This vid is just for the shifter rig, bit appreciate the feedback in case it comes up in the future. Bill
I was riding and I tried shifting down (was in fourth gear) and it wouldn’t shift. I had to turn around and mid turn the bike stalled. It will not go into gear and it will crank in any gear. Acting like it’s in neutral in fourth gear. Do you know what the issue is?
No, you don’t need to split the case. You need a tool to remove the magneto. There’s a 14 mm nut that holds the magneto on and he’s pulling it threads into the magneto. You can probably get it on Amazon for about $15 but you definitely need that to remove most magnetos. Once you have the magneto off there are three screws that hold the timing plate on. Behind those three is the crank seal. You can pull it out with a scribe. if you go to manualslib.com, You can probably find your service manual on there.
@@brizax hey sorry man, same thing on the other side you don’t need to split the cases but you do need to pull the clutch basket and the primary gear. There’s a race inside that crank seal and it just pulls out. It’s easier on the right side.
@@brizax no, it won’t. This is a link to the shift shaft. At the bottom you can see all the models that the part will fit on. www.partzilla.com/product/yamaha/5PA-18101-00-00?ref=ca2912606db3563e3f12843d8189f2bbb4c4424f
Hey I have an 04 yz85 it doesn’t have a play looking notch to align with and when I put everything back together it sounds like it’s not switching properly or the timing is bad it only goes into first and second gear but it’s not smooth it doesn’t sound like it switch gears it just wines sound like I’m still in first gear
Big question for you or anybody else out there clutch with that little ride that goes down the middle of the center of the basket and I bought the bike guy had panties outside of that ride up against clutch case I'm guessing maybe cuz he didn't have that little bearing and he had a stack of like four pennies on top of that ride I guess to use as a replace of the bearing I need to know what that bearing looks like
that link should give you all the detail you need on the clutch. You can select different years to look at the assemblies. Sometimes the problem with the adjustment is that the arm cable ties into is not set properly. You just have to trace backwards from the actuator shaft to the clutch itself. I can tell you, pennies aren’t gonna show up on the microfiche. LOL
I am SO glad the jackass on the four-stroke pulls up right when you are explaining the money shot. The proper "rig" would be a tire iron to the shin, I believe......
Hey so is the stopper wheel thing supposed to be on the cutout in the shift drum in 1st gear or is it supposed to be in neutral when it’s on the cutout
When it’s in the raised cut out, that’s neutral. As long as it’s put back together properly it doesn’t really matter where that wheel sits. Whatever notch it drops into when you’re putting it back on is what gear it’s going to be in, so it really doesn’t matter whether it’s neutral or not.
Hey man I have a 2003 yz85 and I really need to know the torque spec for the clutch basket nut, and if there is one the bolts with the springs. This would help so much if you could reply quickly. Thank you
My kx60 kick start is stuck. Can’t push it down. I can spin the flywheel and the bottom end (crank) is freely moving. What could be holding up the kick lever?
If the crank turns then the first thing I would do is pull the kick-start gear out and see if the clutch Hub is turning also. If it's free then the rotating mechanism inside the kick-start gear is probably seized. When you put the bike in gear and rotate the back wheel does the motor turn?
@@toomey706 interesting, I didn't even think of doing that. I'll let you know when I get back home. Thanks for the advice! Check out my vid if you want. Thanks
Hello, is there a washer behind the 2nd idle gear, I have one in front of the idle gear followed by a internal clip? It's just when I put my idle gear on it's loose on the shaft? Need help asap!?
Here's the manual for the 2003, if you have a different year just check this website and the service manual may be on there. www.manualslib.com/manual/580313/Yamaha-Yz85-R-Lc.html?term=float+&selected=2&page=72#manual
The shift shaft goes from the right side of the engine to the left side of the engine and the shift lever attaches to the end of it. The only step you would need to take Beyond what's shown in this video is removing the shift lever I'm pulling the shaft out of the engine. When you replace the shaft, replace the seal on the shifter side of the engine also. In the comments on this video is a link to the service manual, it'll help you figure out the rest.
My 05 yz85 has new shift shaft and most parts are new but is acting like it doesn't want to shift or go in neutral. it will after messing with it for a bit. What could that be?
Do you have tension at the clutch? When you pull in the clutch, does it feel like its actuating? If so, go through this vid again. Does it go into gear and out of gear okay when its not running?
Glenn Davis if the arms got tension then it's going to be a rig issue, unless you have a transmission problem which is not likely. You've got to make sure that torsion spring is on the shaft properly and the roller that rides on top of the shift drum star is actually on top of the star. This video addresses that problem, so watch it from the beginning. You can't shift the bike with the side cover off or the roller on the shifting mechanism will hop off of the star. Good luck.
It will always have a little bit, but the shaft is held in place by the right side case so the shaft could be worn or the case could have some wear. If the right side case is off obviously the shaft will come right out. Some axial play is normal.
Con I have to replace a crank seal on this bike so I'll do another video on the adjustment of the clutch. you have to use a set of pliers and actually the clutch arm in order to get the cable retainer set in the case. here's a link to the service manual, that should help. www.manualslib.com/manual/580313/Yamaha-Yz85-R-Lc.html#manual
Heres the service manual, this should answer the questions out there. Just download it as pdf, works for me and it's free. www.manualslib.com/manual/580313/Yamaha-Yz85-R-Lc.html
