Fixing a clutch that won't disengage on a 2008 YZ85.
This is typical in the spring or after sitting for any length of time. Also contaminated oil or not pre soaking the clutch pack before putting in new friction discs.

@SchnebsGarage
@SchnebsGarage 3 года назад
First thing I'd check is the cable adjustment, make sure its got some slack in it. If that fails you may have to make sure you put the cap on the clutch pack right. The yz's need to be lined up right. Look at ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xQHSW4ziXwM.html in the video above I show how to do this.

Needing to replace the clutch arm seal on a 2006 YZ85.....Does the clutch need removed to get the clutch arm to lift up out of the left side case?
@SchnebsGarage
@SchnebsGarage Месяц назад
No, you don't need to remove the clutch for this job. The push rod that goes from the lever through the clutch will be under tension so you will have to open the right side cover and just take out the 5 bolts to relieve pressure to get that rod back in. Hope this helps.

So I have a 01 80 that I just did a full motor rebuild/restore and when I put in the clutches and the plate with the springs the cliches move around without the cluch pulled or even when it’s unhooked I added another clutch and when installed it would hit the inside of the cluch cover
@alstonasby5883
@alstonasby5883 3 года назад
Eny help?
@SchnebsGarage
@SchnebsGarage 3 года назад
@@alstonasby5883 possible you dont have the pressure plate splines aligned. So the clutches will end up spaced away about 1/8" and never fully engage clutch. Its kind of tricky to put that clutch pack in there and occasionally it'll pop off the last clutch plate. Also there's a washer/spacer between the clutch pressure plate and the outer hub sometimes that'll drop down during assembly and jam things up.
@SchnebsGarage
@SchnebsGarage 3 года назад
I havent done an 01 yz80 but most likely they have timing marks like the 85's and have to be assembled right. 8:28 in the video explains how to line up the cover.

thanks man, the moment at 2.16. what should you expect if the clutch plates were fine.
@SchnebsGarage
@SchnebsGarage 6 месяцев назад
It only takes 1 to stick to lock it up pretty good. If they are truly fine then the ridges that get cut into the basket can cause a clutch to stick. Other than that stretched cable or adjustment tends to be a common problem.

Yes, you are right. I can only recommend repairs, in the end its up to the owner to decide if they want to replace things. The water pump shaft in this case is badly pitted so we put in a new seal but it wont last long before coolant leaks into the case again.

@SchnebsGarage

First thing I'd check is a stretched or out of adjustment clutch cable. If thats all OK then I'd definately pull the clutch pack, its a relatively common issue especially for bikes that have sat for a while.

Would stuck clutch plates make it where you have to rev up really high to take off so it doesn't die.
@SchnebsGarage

Not really, they pretty much stick solid or work fine. Sounds like you have a bogging issue with a dirty carb, bad gas or bad spark plug. Those kind of issues most likely.

That's a new one. Clutch really shouldn't have anything to do with the shifting. You may have to pull off the side cover and look at the shift shaft. There are some small springs and ratchet mechanism there that can get jammed by debris.

User 100%, letting the clutch out too fast or not maintaining enough throttle.
@Dylan.99
@Dylan.99 Год назад
Ok so pretty much mine doesn’t start to move when letting off the clutch while giving it throttle and if I do end up getting into 1st it bogs when I get it into 1st gear I think because of the friction but I’m not sure
@SchnebsGarage
@SchnebsGarage Год назад
@@Dylan.99 Well there's a few things other than the driver that could cause that, dirty carb, especially this time of year when you first take the bike outta storage. Fouled spark plug would be my second guess, just because well 2 strokes. After that you get a little more technical, CDI box and coil etc. I'd start with the first 2 since they're cheap and easy.

@SchnebsGarage

Book says 10-30 or 10-40 motor oil but I know a lot of folks use 80wt and have no problems. I suspect the problem in this one was a bad water pump seal and coolant got in there during the winter which caused the plates to stick together.
