2004 Envoy XUV Transmission Solenoid Failure 

Yes BOTH my Envoys have done this. My 2010 4.2 ltr and my 2004 5.3 ltr. 4x4 XL. In BOTH cases I changed out BOTH the A-B shift sensors. Both Envoys did this around 130,000-140,000 miles. I realized it was an electronic issue because in my 2010 2nd gear it would go out completely ( as in it went into neutral gear) I’d pull over turn it off and wait a minute start it up and put it in gear and go until it would randomly go out again. My 2010 it just act all kinds of stupid in all gears but mostly around 40 mph. Anyway yes it’s an EASY job. if you can do an oil change or tune up on your car you yourself CAN do this. Each of the 2 sensors are about $25 each and with the transmission pan gasket and filter kit and transmission fluid $75 . Because while you have the transmission pan off the fluid will drain and you may as well change the filter in there ( just pull it off push the new one on ) clean off the magnet 🧲 that catches metal shavings in the bottom of the pan then RIGHT there in front of you are 2 wire harness plugs side by side at the outer edge of the transmission (near the gasket edge ) just un-clip them so they drop out and then in-plug them and plug in the new ones and snap them back up in place 😁😁 THATS IT !! Then just put you gasket back on the pan and place it back up to the transmission and loosely put all your screws back in and REMEMBER to criss cross tightening the screws !!!!! Just like a tire. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN THEM OR YOU WILL SNAP THEM OFF AND THEN HAVE A HEADACHE !!!!! Now, you CAN go a step further and when you take the sensors out you can then slide the rods and spring out of both A-B ( it’s side where the sensors connect to where these rods are ) and clean them off and and slide them back in both springs and both rods. Anyway IM NOT A MECHANIC I LEARN HOW TO DO EVERYTHING J DO ON YOU TUBE !!! I can do brakes , alternator radiator change water pump etc. again transmissions scare people EVEN ME !!!! But this little job TRULY isn’t very hard. This video and others on RU-vid show how to do this job. Walk into a transmission shop he will tell you he needs to rebuild yours for $2,500 and it will take him less then an a half hour to do this and let it sit for a couple days and take your money. It’s as easy as an oil change ...

I live in the woods between Tallahassee and Pensacola myself . Mine JUST started this a week ago. It started shifting hard in the first two gears like I was getting rear ended then taking my daughter to school it did exactly what you are showing but in lower gears. I’d coast to a stop shut it off got out cusses up a storm kicked some gravel around got back in banged my head a few times on the steering wheel then decided to try and start it hoping it was my imagination that my possible $2,000 problem of a transmission is ok. Well it started and went into gear and it made it a few more miles and it went out of fear again at the end of my driveway so I turned it off and started it again and it went into gear and in my driveway. Been there since. But I’m going to replace the 123 solenoid and see what it does. I guess the filter and gasket also but money’s tight so I’m not sure about the 2nd solenoid tho ... I pray this is the problem tho.

yah have similar issue in a 2001 Maxima 205k miles, I was able to make it derivable with a ATF drain / fill adding Lucus. I have so far had to do 2 drain and fills to get out alot of the old fluid. CEL goes off P0744 (TCC intermittent) I was thinking it was a sticking Solonid(s). initially showed up at 202k. and the first Drain / fill with lucus and Valvoline Max Life ATF made it about 80% better. it took nearly 900 miles for the new fluid and lucus to unstick things. after 4k miles after the first drain fill, I changed it again. because the fluid already looked black. it was slightly better afterwards, its not 100% better Good enough for now to get around town. no long trips. Its my son's first car now. it seemd like every month after he got it from me something else happened , I go and fix it , and all was ok.and was able to fix it myself on the cheep too. Now this P0744 issue is another story. I know if I take it to a shop they will likely say transmission needs a rebuild. and why spending nearly 2-4k on a car worth 1500.00 ? It also has a rear main seal leak which if the transmission has to come out might as well fix that also , since your right there. I just hope its not the Torque converter itself that's very $$

What shift solinoids did you get? Are they for 1st to second 2nd to third? My dad's trailblazer is having the same issue and he's bout ready to drive it off a cliff, I'm looking to fix the issues myself sometime in the next week or two

Idk if mine has the exact same problem but it's been slipping as well. When i try to back out of my driveway it takes a fair amount of gas before it starts moving in reverse. It also has a hard time taking off in 1st, i have to be patient with it. Yesterday i was backing out, i got backed out of my driveway but i tried to back up a little more, it didn't want to but it's a slight incline and after it started to move i heard and felt a clunk and it sounded like something broke. I was able to pull back into my driveway but it had a hard time getting into it. Now I know that it has a transmission fluid leak somewhere in the very front near or around the radiator area, I always check the fluid and add however much it needs. I have not driven anymore since after it did that yesterday except to get it back in my driveway. Also, sometimes when i was driving from 30-50mph it would feel like it was kind of pulling and having a hard time keeping up, I apologize for the vague description. Mine is a '03 gmc envoy 6cyl automatic SLE. I will try to get it diagnosed but if anyone knows what the problem is until then I would greatly appreciate it🌸

I feel like my torque tube twisted off today, I barely got home 🏡 there was a burnt smell , only drove like that for 1 mi , very slow, and made it home. I'm not sure what happens if that drive shaft spins off? My issue is it's January and freezing! Thanks

Yup that's what's happen to my mustang happens when I when I get it up to 40, just stops and the rpms rev ups. It's really the trans solenoid??? Did it work after you replaced them?

But when you pick her up to speed slow she will shift gears good have you had your transmission case done by any chance recently?

My 03 envoy seems like it doesn’t grab 1st gear, even manually shifting. It starts in 2nd

My 04 Trailblazer won't shift to 3 and 4 and ABS light is on with some noise and jerks randomly. Did that ABS indication came up when you had this problem started? is it related to ABS?

Happened to me to with my Honda crv on the highway pressing down the gas and won’t go past 65 and slipping gears had to get my transmission replaced.

I gotta 02 envoy n 2 months ago i found a mechanic to fix my transmission case. But instead of rebuilding it he put in a used one. I can see what you mean cause mine starting to do Tha rn between 1st n 2nd gear when I try to get up to speed in a a lil hurry she will still go but once she get to 40, 50 mph she Struggles a lil to catch da 2nd gear

My brakes will release while at a stop light and start rolling and will not stop unless I throw it in park. It wasn't doing it everytime I drove but now it's getting worse and takes a lot longer to stop after putting it in park. The brakes stop fine on some days. Could this be the same issue?

This is whats wrong with my 09 focus (not a very rare problem in them) and my grandma is mostly in charge of what i do with MY money and i showed her countless vids of the same issue showed her the video on how to fix it (50 min job if you take your time) and she says its out of my control i cant do it and took it into a shop and they gave her an estimate to replace the whole trans for 2200$ and she said were just gonna sell it i like the car so i stood my ground and said no i can fix it with hours spread out every other day arguing she just baught a whole new trans that me and my uncle have to put in a solenoid cost 80$ gasket/rtv crap cost like 5 to 8$ a filter cost about 30 for an aftermarket why couldnt you just let me try instead of buying a whole new trans its 99% whats wrong with it
