I just recently got my '03 Liberty Limited for $3400 total. It was well cared for, looks better than a dealership would have, no rust whatsoever except very minor superficial surface rust in the door rockers and underneath. I snagged it up and got it at just the right time, the guy was tired of showing it and people asking for practically nothing for it. Only issue came when driving 45 minutes home from Altoona to South Fork, the engine light came on flashing, lost power. Pulled over and turned off the car, everything looked fine. Had it looked at and was told a very minor misfire on cylinder 3 and 4 and a valve cover leak that's minor as well, not losing oil. The guy felt bad and said he'd help get it fixed. It's running just fine, I daily drive it, it looks just like this one but in black. The guy told me everything he had done, which wasn't much. I'm happy with it. I'm from Pittsburgh area myself, moved to Johnstown area recently, own the Jeep free and clear, and paying on a nice older Mercedes that I got for a steal.

I have a 2006 Limited 4x4 with the Turbo Diesel engine, 126k miles and I love it. I paid $6k for it, have no car payment, and it has had no mechanical issues in 2 years of ownership, gets like 25 mpg, but it has had its share of electrical issues and a slow oil leak that does not go away. Other than that it has been a great car, its a beast in the snow and on Colorado trails. I have mine built a little for offroad driving.

Update from last post. After going through a dodgy mechanic, and finding another with better creds, the issues to date have been; - Sensor issues, ball joints, replacement of all the coils, and an electrical issue, that causes the interior lights, to come on, when not inspected. Basically, the vehicle, under the previous owner, had not seen a spanner for at least two years, hence the issues. Is it a keeper? Has over 200ks, on the clock. Transmissions a little "clunky".. Yeah, call me a fool, but i love it..

I have one, if you find one that has had good records for oil changes thats a start. The dealer even told me that if I just keep up on the oil changes the motor will last a LONG time. If the oil changes are lax however, RUN AWAY... The oil pickups are kinda small and if old oil sits too long and gets too sludgy it can plug up and create horrible wear. Other than that, make sure the ball joints aren't popping and you have the GOOD 4wd selector that isn't a button...Mine is the 4hi 4lo N and 2hi options which I've been told is the best one to have...There is another that has 5 options but I hear is kinda trash.

Get a 2.8 CRD and, if you can find one cheap, fit a NSG370 6 speed manual gearbox (the same one they put in the current wrangler)...That way you can get up to 36 US mpg (45 UK mpg). If you stick with a 4 or 5 speed auto box you will lucky to get 25 US mpg.

@@sigmasd10 I've always preferred stick shift anyways. However, some old sage who was retired and a jeep trail veteran who traveled for a hobby told me if you're rock crawling, auto trans is better because it had unlimited gear selection whereas a stick you're very limited. But imo it serves well to use the transmission for the job it fits best. But that's amazing of the difference of mpg you get b/w stick and auto on this vehicle if that's true

Ima first time driver, and my liberty (2003 Sport 3.7 V6) was originally just going to be a car my dad (mechanic) bought and flipped for some quick cash. Didn’t quite work out, so it sat in the driveway till my dad handed me the keys on my 16th birthday and told me he’ll replace the blown engine eventually. The car still needs quite a bit of work before it’ll be ready to move. Wipers are ruined, batteries dead, headlights ima just replace they’re so cheap. I need new taillight covers becuase water got into mine. I’m actually quite close to the same Junkyard you mentioned in this video, so I might see if I can get out there and buy some parts for my liberty.

Excellent video. I bought a 2005 Jeep Liberty Renegade 3 months ago. Already had to replace the driver's side window regulator. Also replaced the passenger side tow hook and have no idea how someone bent its mounting bracket backwards. I am thinking of replacing the fender flares with what your Limited has, if that is possible. I am not a fan of how gaudy the fake screw heads look on the Renegade version. Thanks again for the update!

Not long after I got my UK Cherokee KJ (called the Liberty in the US), I replaced the steel wheels it came with, with a set of 5 Jeep Grand Cherokee XJ 16" Ultrastar 5 spoke alloys, which I got on ebay for £150. At the same time, I had 5 brand new, excellent quality, Alfamotor DK365 235/70R16 road tyres fitted all round. DK365's are triple Euro B rating tyres (The ratings run from A to G...A is the best you can buy, B is a close second and G is complete rubbish)...They are B rating for wet grip, economy, and noise, and they have a good wear life too, whereas virtually all off road tyres are a poor quality Euro E or F rating tyres. The first four DK365's only cost £120 (just £30 each!) on ebay and the fitting and balancing was another £20 at a local tyre specialist. I bought a fifth one for the spare for another £40. The Ultrastar alloys have a wider offset than KJ alloys, so they increase the track of my KJ by about 3 inches, without having to use spacers! Together with the DK365's they instantly transformed my KJ from a wobbling, wallowy, mess on road, that was dangerous round fast bends at speed, into a totally safe feeling, smooth and refined road cruiser, that I could now drive round bends at speed with perfect confidence...For example, when exiting onto a circular off ramp, off a motorway (freeway to you), anything over 30mph and it literally felt like my KJ would roll over!...With the Ultrastars and DK365's fitted it felt planted and secure even at 50mph or more on the same ramps. I still have the original steel wheels fitted with off road tyres, but as my KJ is my everyday drive, I keep them strictly for the rare occasion I might want to go off road...I recommend you do the same. Oh, and KJ's sold in Europe are hot dip galvanised, so they don't rust like their US counterparts. Bolting your rocker (sills in the UK) panels on would be illegal in the UK...They would have to spot welded on at the very least.

2 weeks back a 05 liberty was being looked at. and after learning the engine was a 2.4 decided it was too small. am now persuing an 03 gd cher' laredo with I-6/4.0 and A/T . its front drive shaft needs replaced/rebuilt & the 3" lift kit may have contributed to its failing. owner swears by it all tho. that its got a good `100k left in it . and he knows cars well. the bugaboo is that my 94 cher country w/ I-6/4.0 M/T 220k mi. still runs well , though is breaking down here and there. the worst is the driver door hinge upper being 'sprung' thus it doesnt close tight. and is not used for in-out, but slide across from the passenger side. so does one move on from it or take the 4500 the laredo will cost and use some of that to make what repairs / replacements there are that can be done ? any path taken comes with risk. and loss potential. yet , one often hears the elders promote taking risks as being an important part of life

Also, my headlights are fogged over and need restored, and the valve cover, looks like somebody used the old gaskets on the bolts, which I think is why it's leaking onto the exhaust manifold. And the throttle body is also throwing a code, looks like it needs cleaned. I think the valve cover leak is causing the misfire and the throttle body code and it being dirty. What do you guys think?

Not sure if I am just an unlucky purchaser, but I have owned a 2005 Jeep Liberty Sport for a little over a year. When I bought it, it had 117,000 miles; now it has 127,000 miles. In the little over a year that I have owned it, I have had to replace the radiator, alternator, water pump, and a few other things that have added up to a total repair cost of around $2,500. Also, these past few weeks the oil light has been coming on when I am at around 750 RPM's or lower, making me thing that it may be the oil pump. Another thing that has been happening over the past few weeks is my check engine light. It comes on for about a day or two, then turns off by itself and I have no idea what that could be; it's as if a problem keeps occurring, then fixing itself overnight, which does not make any sense to me whatsoever. Does anyone know what this could possibly be? It is a shame that I have had to fix major components of the car at such low mileage. But the funny thing is that my original head/tail lights are still in working condition, over-lasting the components needed drive the vehicle lol.

I really like the Pennzoil 5w-30 Full Synthetic. Walmart has 5 quart jug for $21.97 currently on sale. Way cheaper than any Auto Parts. Recently I have been trying the Autozone STP 5w-30 Full Synthetic. They have a decent special $26.99 that includes 5 quart jug and oil filter. For $32.99 you also get a new STP air filter. Best deal I’ve seen so far. The STP oil doesn’t seam to burn as fast as other oils I’ve used in my Liberty. I’ve noticed that over the course of 3,000 miles it consumes about 3/4 of a quart of oil. I made a video of the oil change too if your interested. m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ly0TV7KgY9w.html
