Having all kinds of problems with my 2011 Liberty. This video is super detailed and very informative! As someone already owning one, its good to see the undercarriage and know the common faults to be aware of. Thanks!!
2003 Liberty Sport.....V6.....drove it off the lot. 263,500 mi. all orig. drivetrain. Beater car now.....still runs great. Wheel bearings are still original and like new. Vehicle has seen lots of off road use too. PERFECT beater for life in the mountains.....command-trac system is great.
i bought a 2004 jeep liberty for 6 grand last year i couldnt be happier with my purchase , the person who owned it before me really took good care of it and im gonna follow suit and stay on top of all fluid changes to keep her running great.
I'm about to buy my first vehicle and it's ironically a Jeep Liberty and ironically I live in Grand Rapids too, you guys will be hearing from me in a couple days. Great video man!
I must say you articulated this very well. Also, you come off very logical and trustworthy. Sucks you have to deal with people thinking you are trying to rob them because of their own missunderstandings and ignorance. Keep up the great work and being human : )
Good video my grandfather always told me make sure you bring a broken down cardboard box and lay it under the vehicle so you can see exactly if there’s a leak right away before you even drive it
Just bought a 2012 with 52k miles. Carfax showed the water pump was replaced. Valuable info. Did have to turn off Hill Start Assist due to issues with brakes not releasing.
we have a 2012 4x4 6-speed manual Linerty Sport with 159,000 miles on it. done one clutch job. we did have the heater core go out around 100k miles. Dit the water pump a while back. The only trouble was getting the parking brake sorted out, the fix is to use OEM parking brake shoes for the correct geometry. We did put a 2" lift kit on it.
I have a problem with my 2009 liberty the back wiper won’t turn off even when I turn the Jeep off stays on for about a minute could it be a short or bad wiper motor ?
I have a 05 ford explorer. Got it last year with a clunk in the transmission when i put it in "D" and "R". The issue went away after i replaced the transmission fluid and filter with Valvoline maxlife transmission fluid and drove it for 100miles. The detergents probably dissolved gunk in the valve body. So i absolutely think that changing the atf is a good thing.
@@robtankbuster5215 maybe but i don't like chris fix bc he seems to be very arrogant/full of himself. I like the other guys better e.g. scotty kilmer, r&w, the one bmw guy from "what to check before you buy a bmw"....
Them guys have made a lot of money off of RU-vid and it certainly changes people. I personally think Scotty Kilmer’s annoying Chris fix, Makes pretty good videos even though I’ve never really watched many of them to be honest with you I don’t watch many RU-vid videos at all , just because I mostly I like to continue to be ignorant, meaning I want my content to be original thought. Even though I probably should watch some so I could make better videos lol
I'm buying a 2007 Jeep Liberty sport with 101k miles. It's been taken care of and I want to get it to 200k miles. Is this a good buy? How reliable will it be over the next few years?
I did Subscribe... Great Video!! No Goofy Pounding Punk music for ADD people... Just good information about vehicles and in this case the Jeep Liberty... Oh yea.. My grand daughter is looking at a 2005 JL her uncle has.. 160,000 miles with new tires 3.7 i believe 4500 bucks.. I will ask the guy all the Qs you advised and go from there... Thanks again for the great content!!
Well I appreciate all the kind words but there is a few videos that have some of that pounding punk music in the background but mostly on older videos..... I do try to stick to the task at hand and do the best job at informing people not only about how to do something but why they’re doing it. I do believe I am getting better at my videos once again thank you for the kind words
Have a 2011 jeep liberty, during the day or night, as the jeep is just sitting, not running, the headlights will just turn on all by themselves, what is something that I should be looking for this problem?
Dude I do this exact thing by in flip cars I replace every little thing rebuild the motors I buy equinoxes overheating 2007 through 2009 and I replace every suspension component all the brakes and rotors and do a complete engine over haul. I saw them for 1000 under typical list price and people think it’s too good to be true when they see the ridiculous list of new parts
Wow what a nice message and a very nice thing to say. Greatly appreciate it and we love having people like you aboard on our channel so welcome. If you keep an eye on my right now I’m actually working on two of them. We buy them we rebuild them Engines transmissions etc. etc. we don’t buy any salvage vehicles and then we sell them. If you end up purchasing one somewhere or you will be very interested in my content. I do quite a bit on these vehicles
Hi Clay. Question. I had a 2008 Liberty for 4 months. Ran great and took me from Maryland to 20 miles south of the Canadian boarder like it was going to the local 7-11. No issues. Sadly, a sweet little old "Vin Diesel" inspired lady, smashed into my rear door and spun me into guard rail. They totaled my Jeep, and I am looking for a replacement Liberty. I found a 2008, on a mom and pop lot, but it has the skyslider roof. I have heard horror stories and a new report investigation out of a station in Miami, that Mopar has stopped offering all parts for the roof. It seems like a obvious answer, at the same time would you recommend that the lack of parts to be a deal breaker for a used vehicle? Thanks
Hi Karen. I’m sorry to hear about that happening to your jeep. Regretfully I would have to say not to get that sky slider. I absolutely absolutely loved mine!!! It worked perfectly but always leaked air I came up with what I thought was a very ingenious way to fix it and it helped but it did not work totally. If you are not ultra mechanically inclined I’d say not to buy it I’m sorry if you ever have any questions let me know thank you
I just got me a grey Jeep Liberty 2x4 with a tow hitch in garage mint condition. This is my first SUV.🚙 I’m excited about the 5,000 lbs towing capacity. Looking at mobile home 5th wheels for my first camper.
Nice to see you are answering questions. I am having trouble looking for a video talking about the 4 cylinder engine reliability. I'm looking at a 2004 liberty 4cylinders 4x4 Manual 169k for $2,800.(i plan to offer $2k.
For past 13 yrs. Ive had my 2004 Liberty leather seat LX?or DX model?? It is 4 cylinder w on-demand 4wd. From OR, Ive driven to & all around Canada (in all seasons incldg -35 celcius) been thru alot of gravel, ruts, rugged, muddy terrain, snow drifts & icy roads, pulled horse trailers..all w No problems. Ive only had one issue replaced regulator rear driver window. I LOVE my Jeep Liberty. My sister has same year, renegade model. Also only window regulator problem.
I have a 2008 sport manual got it pretty mint with 88k now has 110k about 6 years only in my city driving has a lot of kick (power) . Alot of my dash light are on but is driving like when I got it.. just would like to eliminate some of these lights now I use it for fishing mostly around ponds..
I think it depends on the year but you are correct that is something to watch for. Although there are several companies that make different color coolant that is compatible with different styles of coolant I still appreciate your information God bless have a great day
Need to buy something in the next few days My choices a *both 4WD 2017 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk L Plus $26k asking with 34k miles Also is enhanced cruise really worth it? or 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland $17k asking 107k miles or 2012 Jeep Liberty Sport $13k asking with 67k miles I will be driving back to Southern CA from IL in the next month towing and I need the vehicle to last at least 3-5yrs
I hope any vehicle that you buy that’s over $10,000 will last you 3 to 5 years unfortunately I don’t buy that new vehicles or spend that much money on them so my advice probably wouldn’t be as good as it could be from somebody else. I personally think the ones with the lower miles are probably your best bet of course $17,000 for a vehicle with 107,000 miles on it seems a bit high to me but I know the overland is a very very nice vehicle As far as the one with 34,000 miles on it that just depends on how long you’re going to keep it I don’t know if that’s a good price or if that’s a bad price. I know my friend just bought a brand new truck and it was about 40,000 with 0 miles on it so I would check the price of brand new automobiles because dealerships are selling them extremely cheap and right now is a good Time to buy if you’re buying a brand new automobile Then on the other hand I personally would never buy a brand new automobile because I don’t have deep enough pockets for it. And because of the depreciation value on a brand new automobile. Like I said before I can’t be of much service but I certainly would try them or some of my opinions on the situation
Sounds like a decent bye to me I just paid 3500 for a 2012 4x4 with 160,000 miles on it that we’re going to have video about pretty soon and it has an engine taken it so it’s not perfect but it does run and drive very good. So I think 3700s a very fair price if it’s in good condition the one that I bought is in extremely good condition other than the engine tick . I would say go for it because I’m about to sell this one when I’m done for eight or 9000 the reason I can get that much for it though is because I will have video documentation of what I do to it so that adds a lot of value.
If I buy a used car with a lot of miles and I’m not sure if the trans has ever been serviced I will not touch it. The fluid that is in there may be the only thing keeping it working. If I know it’s been serviced I will continue to service it per the scheduled maintenance.
I think I made a video of that. I’m absolutely certain I did actually basically you take a sponge and you wipe it over the top of it with the paint on the sponge then you clearcoat over the top of that so it doesn’t chip off really easy.
@jehad78 hand full of repairs, running like a top. Do have issues getting new parts since the liberty was discontinued in 2012. Only complaint is lack of storage in vehicle
@@Bluebird22200 Thanks for letting me know. Yeah I'm going to test drive a 2012 Liberty Jet Limited. One owner with 120,000 miles full service done. Scare parts? That's insane! Are you talking about interior parts or electrical and mechanical?
Help! I’m thinking about buying a 2012 liberty sport 4wd. Dealer says it’s mint condition no accidents 3 owners. $8999 is this a good deal? Are they reliable? I would appreciate the input thank you!!
I just bought a 2012 liberty latitude....when I first take off it makes kind of a built-up whirrrring noise in the trans, almost like it's supposed to sound that way...is it?....it has 75,000 miles on it, I'm having the cooling system flushed, and was thinking of having the trans fluid changed, but now, after this vid, I'm wondering if I should?....any suggestions on what I SHOULD have done as maintenance at 75,000 miles would be greatly appreciated...Thanks Clay
I don’t know what happened and why I did not see this message before I greatly apologize for not answering I think the other gentleman is correct you should have the transmission fluid changed I hope you don’t have the same problem that I described in the video I wish you the absolute best God bless and have a great day thank you so much for the kind words
In my Jeep, when I first start going from a stop, I hear a whining noise in the transmission as well. This is the sound of the gears rolling in the transmission, specifically first gear. If yours is like mine, the noise will stop as soon as the transmission shifts into second gear. This sound is normal, I heard it on both of the Jeeps I've owned.
@@dragasoni Thank you so much, I've had a few other people that own jeeps like mine tell me the same thing...I love my 2012 Jeep liberty latitude, I appreciate your response, eases my mind a lot...it just hit 80,000, so I guess it's time to have the trans fluid changed...kinda scares me...
What is your opinion on a 2009 liberty limited 4x4, one owner(private seller in Indiana), 174,000miles, $3000, no accidents, & looks clean from what I have seen. I’m no expert on vehicles, and I’m looking at these and 4th gen 4runner’s... but they are a bit steep in price for over 200,000 miles. And Xtera’s radiator issues scare me. lol
Well that price on the jeep liberty does not sound bad in the miles are not that bad either but without looking at it I couldn’t give you my opinion I suppose if it runs and drives well it’s probably a pretty good buy it sounds very affordable
Found one with 71k on it. 2008 sport. Looks pretty good on the outside. Asking for 7k, is it worth the hassle? Plant to use it as a daily drive, and I drive about 70m a day.
Because it’s a manual would give you a good bargaining chip there’s not many folks that will want to buy a manual so offer them 5000 you can always go up you just can’t go down once you make a price be nice don’t piss them off if you want to buy the vehicle
I’m looking at a 2011 liberty (trail rated, if that matters much) with 120,000 on it and they’re asking $8,500. Does that seem like a decent deal? I test drove it for quite a while and didn’t feel or hear anything even remotely worrying in the engine. Suspension felt perfect, brakes were great. Overall I was impressed but I’m also new to jeeps. Anybody have any thoughts? Much appreciated!
Question ? Would you buy a car that is being sold at a gas station ? There is a Jeep Liberty 2004 at a gas station not to far from my house. The guy wants $4000 for it. Wondering if it's worth that much ?
$4000 for a 2004 Jeep liberty is a lot of money. How many miles are on it is it a 4 x 4 if it’s got low mileage it might be worth it if it’s extremely clean it might be worth it but that’s a lot of money you can get a lot of car for that much money
I will have to go check it out. I just saw it one day when I was on my way to Home Depot & I thought to myself $4000 for a 2004 ? And it's on a gas station ? Why ? Was it there to be fix & the owner said "It's time to get rid of it? Don't know.
i wouldn’t recommend buying a car with that much mileage. i did it at that same price and mileage, and my car has had problems consistently since i bought it.
Hi! I am about to buy a Jeep Liberty 2009 with 105,000 miles on it for 4,000$ CAD (I'm Canadian lol) I still need to make an inspection but apparently the mecanic of the car is great, I won't need to do any repairs or maintenance (for now I guess). My question is , am I doing right to buy this car with this mileage since I keep reading through my researches on the net that they have transmissions problems Thank you! :)
I saw a red 2003 Jeep Liberty Sport Utility 4D on Facebook market for $1,995. Is this a reasonable price cause he even said in the description he be willing to make a deal?
I think anything that runs and drives well and looks decent is probably worth $2500 , And if it’s four-wheel-drive could be worth 3030 500 just depends on miles etc. etc.
I just bought a 04 Jeep Liberty, only thing wrong with it is the speedometer, most likely due to speed sensor easy fix. Cost me 2300$ but I’m willing to put money in it because I drive on dirt roads and I think it’s worth it.
Boy I never seen this comment... if I had I would’ve had something to say about it, I can’t think of any sensor on any vehicle That cost that much money to repair and replace maybe something inside the transmission quite possibly but he or she did not say that they had the transmission replaced but I’m assuming that’s what they mean, I hope they got it completely rebuilt for that kind of money
Hi Clay, I’m about to buy a Jeep Liberty 2012, good history except that the owner had to change the water pump, I tried the car for 30 miles w him, everything is working fine. Do I have to look for something in specific given the water pump change?
No water pump change is perfectly acceptable and actually a good thing. When I think about buying used cars I think about price, condition, Miles etc. etc. I think most peoples instincts are correct when they feel good and comfortable with something you should go with your gut Doesn’t mean you won’t get a lemon but at least you won’t feel bad about your purchase later on because you felt good about it when you bought it Miles and price are my biggest concerns.
If I remember correctly 2008 is the first year for the Jeep liberty I think if it’s a four-wheel-drive version more than likely it is worth that much money . But keep in mind that the Jeep liberty is a good vehicle but it needs to have regular oil changes or you will have engine problems down the road I personally like the engine in the jeep liberty but at 180,000 miles they’re known to have a internal issues . Inside the engine and it will probably cost you two or $3000 to fix but overall they’re decent
@@sharpcarco 2002 1st year. 05-07 minor changes but still 1st gen. 2008 1st year of 2nd gen and major remodel. Thank you for being an honest mechanic. Not enough of you.
Hello Meagan there’s so many things that it could possibly be it would be extremely difficult for me to say over a text message. The only help that I could possibly offer is recommending you take it to a repair shop within about 30 minutes they can probably tell you exactly what it is if they don’t know right off the top of their head. I recommend a small mom and pop style repair shop because they generally wanna earn your business. And they generally will be the ones to help you at the least cost I hope that’s helpful for you God bless have a great day
At times it is harder to notice a misfire. While you’re driving there’s several things that could possibly be but I would first check the plugs and coils. Hopefully that’s helpful I can’t say for certain but that’s the problem but
Well it’s a possibility that you have worn valves or carbon on your injectors or a signal problem from the Ecm I’ve seen them before like I said there’s so many things I wish I could be of some help
Really sorry Paul I do not have video on that but I know for a fact there is video out there and I’m pretty sure it’s fairly simple I think there’s only for a little tabs next to the headlights and below the center section of the grill and it pops right off if I remember correctly
I personally do not think that they’re great vehicles but when I buy something it’s based upon price and how good of a deal I think I’m getting. With 75,000 miles on it It shouldn’t be that bad for another 75 or 100 so then it would boil down to price with me
As long they were maintained it’s a great vehicle. My girlfriend bought an 05 liberty with 170k miles and still runs like a champ, the V6 Powertech engine are really reliable and easy to work on and parts are plenty and affordable. On a plus side you gotta love that 4x4 in winters
@@sharpcarco just bought one with 150K, Renegade, all black! Only rust is around the back top brake light. Glad I found your channel, liked and subscribed!
Well they definitely had knowledge that the wheel bearing was going bad because the wheels just do not fall off vehicles. And I am absolutely certain it wasn’t pretty but if you take care of your vehicle it will take care of you
@@sharpcarco, I agree, well it was in detroit. They probably had a system in the truck and couldnt hear it lol. My sons g6 had a bad wheel bearing but it didnt sound typical of a wheel bearing and it had no play when tugging on the tire...
Matthew Raymond That’s too funny( the music was too loud) if I had a system in any of my vehicles anymore I probably wouldn’t notice a bad wheel bearing either 🤔😂
I appreciate the details in this video. I just purchased a 2011 Liberty Limited, 107,114 km $7,500 CDN last Friday. On vacation had to replace my 2007 Ranier, transmission leak and on last legs. Are there any particular 'weakness' or expected problems that I might want to anticipate? I was thinking of a coolant flush prob never done. Thanks for your good work, mate.
107 km sounds pretty low so that’s great don’t sound like a bad price at all. I would say you’re probably pretty good for at least another 40 or 50,000 miles, A coolant flush wouldn’t hurt anything. When they get up and to hire mileage like 130,000 miles that you start having time in chain issues. But are very repairable.
That’s a very good point that you make their Russell but the person driving that jeep knew the wheel bearing was bad for a very long time before it came off. And there are other reasons that a wheel can come off because of a bad wheel bearing that are generally human caused (like improper installation) But thank you for sharing that with us very much appreciate it
That’s a lot of money, but today is a different day than yesterday was that’s not bad miles or real high miles. I sold a 2011 Jeep liberty redline for $8900 with 136,000 miles on it so I don’t guess in 2008 for 7800 is all that ridiculous nowadays even though it’s kind of ridiculous, I haven’t been watching the market on jeeps for a little while, so just check the prices of other ones before you make a decision like that
@sharpcarco thank you so much man appreciate it brother...yeah he said highway miles ...i just don't want to throw my money away you know what I mean you're right on that.
I got a 2011 jeep liberty with 180,000 miles and it started Turning off on me it's in the shop now hopefully they fix it it has the check engine light on too I love Jeep's :)
Bought one with 80k miles only. But rusty rad water. Horrible. Rust underbody. Dont buy any with a rusty coolant. That is like cancer inside engine, rad and heater core..
My 2005 piece of shit liberty: yeah I can't go 65 or else when you even touch the steering wheel I will turn into oblivion. Oh and I don't like hills and my tailpipe fell off. Oh and if you pull the e brake I will keep driving.
I guess I don’t quite understand🤔 and it really doesn’t make any sense...... You came to RU-vid to watch a video on what to look for when buying a Dodge Journey...... and then you ridicule the guy for talking about the Dodge Journey.......... maybe I should’ve stood in the camera just pointed ... hmmmm wow
