Thank you for this video. Although the issue on my 2009 Legacy trunk was caused by a tiny spring inside the latching mechanism coming loose, the procedure to uncover the mechanism was the same. Then, I just unscrewed the latching mechanism from the trunk hood, opened it up by removing a few little screws and putting the spring back in place. I can confirm that if you need the method in this video, or any other fix to the trunk mechanism, the parts and process work the exact same way.

The latch comes off easily by removing 2-10mm bolts and unplugging the solenoid wire connector by pushing it's catch up (located on the bottom of the connector as shown in video). Take it down to your shop and bend the latch where the cable connects away from where it connects. Use 2 pliers, one to hold the base and the other to bend the cable connection. This has the same effect as shortening the cable with rubber band or tie wrap. Permanent solution.

Trunk openings are loud and annoying in my car too (Legacy 2009), do you guys have any ideas may be lubricate the wiring or something?

I wish I would have found this before I completely destroyed my latch. I haven't been able to open my trunk in about 5 years now

This is if when you pull your latch and it doesn't open because there is too much play in the cable. So adding that to it reduces some of that play thus allowing the cable to work properly.

Derek Cheng I have removed it before! It’s not to bad to do. There is clips inside that are a little hard to take off but just follow the electrical wiring and just start disconnecting the clips and it just slides out with some finesse

I see. So it's possible to remove the torsion bars by hand? The relevant section in the repair manual says I have to use some sort of torsion bar removal tool which costs upwards of $100 and I really don't want to buy that...
