2005 Subaru Legacy Door Lock Stuck - Won't Open From Inside or Outside

UK Model 2003-2009 Subaru Legacy rear door lock would not open from the inside or outside. There are other videos on RU-vid that explain how to remove the interior trim panel and the door handle, but none I could find that cover the door locks used on the UK market Subaru Legacy.
Tools needed for this job were:
1. A crosshead screwdriver to remove the door panel screws and undo part of the door lock protective covers
2. A long-handled flat blade screwdriver to release the sticking lock mechanism; and
3. A 10mm spanner or 3/8" drive socket to remove the door handle.

Thanks a lot. I had stuck handle for months until i decided to fix it It was a task to remove inside panel without opening door. And only thanks to your video i was able to pin point the problem.

Hopefully this has helped you to fix it! In hindsight the door handle had been a bit stiff to use, which should have been a warning sign.

Hey @Neodylum, can you provide how to solve this without disassembling anything? Can the door handle be lubed from outside? My rear door doesn’t open sadly, the lock indicator on the inside only moves half way, maybe there is way without much hustle but same lube. Thanks in advance buddy! Cheers

HI,@@scubua2963 , pull the outside handle up and look at it from below - you will see gaps where the handle is hinged. It is enough to push there a WD-40 straw. You have bent the straw so it would be curved towards the stuck latch inside. It is a crude way, but was enough to set the latch free.

I am having same problem right now. Didn't remove the trip and open the door yet. But looks like that's the same issue which also occured after the door was locked in winter. Great video and very helpful!

It's funny how it's the right rear door that seems to be affected. The rear left seems identical but handed, so shouldn't be any less susceptible to sticking that I can see.

Glad it helped. I think I'll be checking and lubricating my door handles regularly from now on.
