I absolutely love this video. The best thing about it is he doesn't say a word. so tired of watching videos with people just rambling on about nothing.thanks for the video definitely going to come in handy.
Thank you so much. You're right on point with this video saved 280.00 in labor and purchased the part on Amazon for 61.75 Dorman steering column repair kit ,for my 2004 Ford explorer, God Bless you ..
I have a 2004 exploder and this exact thing happened to me this morning. I thought "Oh great! How much is this gonna cost me? F**k!!" Then I found this video!! Awesome!! Thank you for posting this repair. I see a Crown Vic in the driveway in the background, I have one of those as well!!
Good day, I have a 05 Explorer and already replaced this part, but the place where this part fits into is worn and the reason for my shifter sloppiness, what is a fix for that? A bodge?
Every video I've seen is based on if the whole piece that hooks up to the shifter is broken off and you can just slide the whole thing down and out...in my case only one side of the piece that hooks up to the shifter is broken (the piece that the little pin goes through to hold the shifter in place) and the rest is still not broken off so I can't just slide it down and out. Somehow I have to get the piece that you guys have been hammering off in a socket (back in your garage or on the sidewalk) off while it's still in place on the column in order to pull it up and out. If anyone could please give me some suggestions on how to do that I'd really appreciate it! I have to have it fixed by tomorrow so my wife can go to work. Thanks!
I took that one off the old part. If yours is lost or broken, I would get from a junkyard. Dorman makes one (DORMAN 9244400) but it's only for the Sport-Trac model.
Kind of painful to watch how you force parts of the assembly off and on again. Fortunately it all worked out without any further damage. Be careful of the micro switches because they're easy to break. I suggest fitting in the ball end first to the new shaft assembly before installing the locking ring. Also running down to Harbor Freight for some cheap pry tools would help. My two cents. ;)
@10:45 do you know what that part is called, because I couldn’t bang it through the ratchet for some reason. I got everything to work up until that part.
If it has a specific name, i'm not sure what it is... A guy on ebay has one for like 60 bucks, but i would just get one from a junk yard. (...or soak yours in pb blaster before hitting it harder)
Mine was so broken it was already off... but the actual shift lever is attached with a pin you can drive out. It has a head on one side, so it can only come off one direction.
What a refreshing approach to an auto fix vid. Nice and quiet. And thanks for sharing. Just had this happen and now have hope. (LOL! I would have said "F*CK!" at 14:34 though! You are indeed a patient old soul....)
Thi happened to me yesterday just as I was about to back my car into a parking space while going to an interview. It went to the a shop. Wish I did not do that.
