Dude...this video just saved me probably $500 for a tow to get my kids Explorer out of Detroit and home to where I could fix it. Did exactly what you said and was able to at least get it to shift so I could drive it. Thanks for POSTING!
Got lucky mine wasn't towed parking lot but it sat 2days til able to move it home before I saw your video, now I can get my keys out. Thx ,good video just what the doctor ordered....
Dude u saved my ass with this video . It's 2022 and this video was seven years ago . And damn it . It was so damn helpful . Thank you for the video . I got my keys out and I can now move my truck cause it's was broken. Like the video . And all u said worked . Thank you
Men I just saw ur video at 8:50 pm today and my was broke this evening around 4:30 and I have to call toll truck and I have to pay 200 hundred box to bring to the shop but tanks men it’s a lot helpful that video
When you park on a hill put your emergency brake on before you put in park. Ever notice when you park on a hill and put it in park and you shift back when you let off your brake? It puts added stress to not only your shifter but your trans as well. And you probably hear a lout "TONK" when you take it out of park. So If you do this it will prevent your shifter from breaking!! Hope this helps
It's a column shifter and the ring that has the ball u need to find it or extract it > you could find it in a pick and pull it's pretty easy to take out
Put your emergency brake on BEFORE putting truck on park, then turn truck off... this stops pressure from being applied on parking paul or a bind... when you go to start ur truck again, start it put ur foot on brake then take out of park, then take emergency brake off.... this will keep it from binding and braking ur shift lever...
Every video I've seen is based on if the whole piece that hooks up to the shifter is broken off and you can just slide the whole thing down and out...in my case only one side of the piece that hooks up to the shifter is broken (the piece that the little pin goes through to hold the shifter in place) and the rest is still not broken off so I can't just slide it down and out. Somehow I have to get the piece that you guys have been hammering off in a socket (back in your garage or on the sidewalk) off while it's still in place on the column in order to pull it up and out. If anyone could please give me some suggestions on how to do that I'd really appreciate it! I have to have it fixed by tomorrow so my wife can go to work. Thanks!
What is that part called that holds the brass ball join and the shifter together.. its the silver triangle shaped part. i am trying to find the part number. thanks!
same problem but im trying to junk my truck its broke down in my garage... but my lever broke off no battery in the truck and it wont start so now how do i do it
Ok I did it I can start the explorer, I can put in drive and reverse , can I drive it to my mechanic? I tested if the brakes work and if the car shifted to another gear by itself when I use the brakes it did not . So is it possible to drive safely to my mechanic ?
@@BIGoshkoshbgosh ok my wife was making me crazy about driving it but it works I still can’t believe I did it . That vid really helped.I think I’ll be able to drive it safely then ,yay - thank you
Why isn't there a recall for this piece of crap? I mean this could roll over you if you walk in front of it. Even in the old days Fords column shifts in their pickups were always having trouble shifting to park. Sure makes you want to buy one,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
oscar chav thanks man...question tho...I just went to the dealer and they said that pice that broke..like in your vid. Has to cone with the whole colum. ..1400 bucks...do you remember what that pice was called so I can Google it or look on ebay to get that part seperate?..
It's called a shift lever. Sell between 50-80 I found one for $45 on eBay. If you watch the beginning of the video my column that comes from the transmission is still good. It's just the handle that connects to the "long shaft that connects to the transmission.
Ok when you park on a hill you have to put the (ebrake) if not your going to brake you shifter like this guy if you already broke 4 of them it's not the whey ford makes the part learn how to park your car or truck on a big or little hill put (ebrake) before you put it on park
Alycha Garrison I was on a tight budget as well it was Xmas time..rode around for about 2 months till I fixed...*there is a torx screw behind the bolt that is broke
