My thoughts on the 2005 Subaru Legacy GT with the 2.5L Turbo charged flat four cylinder engine, and 5 speed automatic transmission.
Subarus are always fun. Their engines are quirky and strange, yet fun and adequate. Now throw that in a practical body, and you got yourself quite the fun daily. Why did people love the station wagons of the 70’s and 80’s? People bought station wagons because families were booming and they needed the space. Space. That’s what makes the Subaru Legacy so good. Yes it has a great drive train, with a great engine/turbo setup, trans, and all wheel drive, but put that in a car with tons of space to for move-in-day or whatever it may be.
My dislikes with the Legacy start and end with the rear leg room. Any Subaru before 2008 has a leg room issue, and I can’t figure out why. The Legacy’s wheelbase would allow for 4 more inches of leg room at least, but we are not given it. This makes the back seats not only uncomfortable, but hard to get in and out of.
Over all I loved the Subaru Legacy GT. Its practical, quicker than most, and a fun car to get you from point A to point B. Especially in the snow.

Of course the back seats are cramped when you have the front seats back all the way. Can't really hide that man.

@@kenc8359 Its still doing a decent job at fitting most people in there tho, especially since its a japanese car, in the further past they were really designed smaller just to fit japanese people before all companies went for international market.

Bought a 2005 Limited Edition GT wagon a couple weeks ago, has 41,000 miles, shame you couldn't review the sunroof, the factory sunroof is large, my daughter loves it in the back seat, but yah her legs are a little cramped even. Car is quick and fun. Alignment should be checked regularly, they eat up oil like no other but it's normal for them.

Good review mate, I have the same 5 speed in my H6 Outback and couldn't be happier with it, as a daily, just leave it in auto but if you want to have a bit of fun, put it in sports mode and it's great and in sports mode it has great engine braking, It might not be everyone's cup of tea but I find it great.

As the owner of a 2004 WRX I know the reason as to why there's not a whole lot of room in the back. It's because Subaru know damn well that's nobody is gonna be back there let alone the passenger seat. I get lucky to have passengers in my car lol

One of the big differences between the GT and the L is the dual-piston front brakes, at least for the 3rd gen Legacy like I have.

I'm not sure if you removed it for the review, but there is an engine cover missing in the video. It isn't just there for decoration. The cover directs the air from the hood scoop into the intercooler. I've had one of these for several years. The only problems that I've had with it were failed rear wheel bearings and the right side valve cover leaking. These seem to be common problems. I don't feel that they are higher maintenance than other cars, especially turbo cars. Alignment issues are most likely caused by the lowering springs. The paint on my hood scoop blistered and peeled. I think this was because I put off fixing the valve cover leak for a while. The rear cupholder is fragile. I need to replace mine again. I think these were rushed to production because there were a few details that they didn't quite get right in the earlier cars. The biggest one that comes to mind is the lack of access to the cabin air filter. Their immediate fix for that was joke. They cut out an access hole in the back of the glove box and screwed a piece of cloth over the hole. Later cars got a redesigned glove box with a removable section, which can be retrofit into the earlier cars. Later cars also got some other improvements like an overhead sunglass holder similar to what was on the previous generation and an armrest that can raise and lower. These can both be retrofit into earlier cars. It looks like the seats were changed on that car. I believe leather seats and sunroof were specific to the Limited model, but that car has an aftermarket sunrooof.

You had the front seats moged too far back. Since you felt fine in the back of later sedan then it would be indentical in the wagon. Its just that seats were adjusted stupidly far back in this one.

Not a bad review. I have an 08 LGT sedan with some mods. Kind of disagree about the car not begging for more power mods... I caught the bug instantly but now I'm real good with how it drives at > 300 awhp. Sometimes I wish it were the wagon, but I can still throw 4 pairs of skis through the middle seat so it's nice having an arguably classier look without the massive space. Always fun to see people still liking these cars.

I own a lot of Subaru’s. 01 outback H6. 250k. 06 H6 outback. 115k never had a single reliability issue. The H6 do have 1 issue I need to replace cv boots every 100k and along with that on the 06 is control arms. Again these can be done every 100k and then u good for another 100k. And yes. My cars see 160 mph all the time. They are ridden hard.
@vinceanderson7733
@vinceanderson7733 2 года назад
I agree with you, they're great cars as long as you maintain them properly. As far as the front control arm issues, and the rear suspensions bushings wearing out, there are a few aftermarket options available that are more reliable and even give adjustability for alignment concerns. I own an 05 outback xt and have upgraded the fca's to aluminum one's with a solid rear bushing similar to what wrx's come with, as well as megan racing rear lateral links and rca's to dial in the alignment after lowering it of course. Oh and rear sway bar upgrade is crucial to eliminate the notorious subaru ghost walk issue. I'm rolling around with 265,000 miles on mine and still running strong. ✌subi life!

Have a Subaru GT Wagon for general driving / daily, one thing to note is the turbo's on these cars are pretty garbage and will fail after 150-200k and like all Subaru's, some of them are prone to head gasket issues. They can have pretty electrical problems too.
