Thanks for this. There is no bleeder plug on the R rear side of my 9th gen, and this confirms it got scavenged somewhere across the 305k miles during a maintenance pit stop when I traveled the US for work. Now that I'm "off the road" and can do maintenance on it, I'm discovering multiple botch jobs and scavenge swaps to rob the OEM, like the drivers window register (~$330+) and the discard of the door card vapor barrier. No wonder the door check rusted out! So it's a run to the dealer for a 47547-06010 bleeder plug & the 31478-30010 bleed cap. Thanks again.
Great video. I did the shoes and drum change but now the car makes a thumping sound when I brake. Not sure if it’s because one of my emergency brake springs broke at the end of it while taking out the c clip or I might need to re adjust the shoes.
When you mean a thumping sound do you mean like a clicking or ticking noise when you come to a slow speed stop? These Corollas were very problematic for that problem even after doing everything correctly. Let me know. Make sure everything is placed where it's supposed to be and just double check your work. Make sure nothing is loose, etc.
Thank you for your response. Yea It makes a thumping sound now when breaking quickly. I’m thinking maybe cause I didn’t lube the shoes area it could be rattling due to shoes not being flexible. If that makes sense.
It is quite cold out. Asside from the cylinder, do you have to have everything attached to your car or can I bring it indoors and put the shoes and springs in and put it together there and then attach it to the wheel and put the cylinder on?
4 clicks will make the shoes drag against the drum and is very tight and will wear down and overheat the shoes faster. Expect to replace the shoes and drums again soon.
Sometimes there is an adjuster at the center console area inside the vehicle it's usually a 10 mm nut that can be adjusted after the shoes are adjusted themselves if you are having problems with the parking brake handle. This will adjust the parking brake cable itself at the lever handle.
