No crank issue due to corroded battery cable. starter just clicks once. also info on starter removal and a general discussion on the Lexus IS platform.
Just ran into that on + batt cable on 08 silverado. Turn ignition on and feel the Terminals, if there warm the crimp is corroded inside. Mine looked fine, no sign of corrosion. It was intermittent start too. I lopped off the terminal, crimped an eyelet on and used a amper terminal. The fuel pressure switch issue on these cars is they short out and pull down the 5v referance voltage for the entire ECU. Causes no start. I think you can disconnect the fuel pressure switch on them and it will crank at least if that's the issue.
Thanks so much bro! Just added an 06 gs300 to my collection. Started it to pull it in the garage and change the ac compressor. Disconnected the battery because I'd be removing the alternator. Finished the job, reconnected the battery and wouldn't start but I know everything is good because I just drove it in my garage. I haven't fixed it yet but now that I've seen YOUR video I'm confident that's my problem as well! Thanks again, I will be subscribing and also have a channel I'll be posting on.
Did you figure out why it wouldn't crank up?. I have a 2010 350.. we replaced the alternator still won't crank up..I'm thinking it's the fuse box he was pointing to where the starter is..
@IceE You've got to be very careful replacing the alternator and ac compressor in these cars. The cables for all the components on the driver side are bunched together and there's a chance you could pull a main plug off the starter behind the motor mount. That's what happened to me.
@@TravisRummerbrooooo help your fellow 06 gs300 brother out. I recently had my ac compressor replaced and when I tried to leave my car wouldn’t start or crank. What exactly did you do to fix your problem because I think I’m having the same issue
@gelatoconnoisseur5389 there's a small exciter wire that gets knocked off easily when working in that area because the wires to the compressor and starter share a loom.
Yep at this price I couldn't help but jump on the deal as soon as I could. The guy I got it from was an older man who bought it brand new. I guess he finally got tired of it. He had a brand new 2021 Lexus LS in the driveway, so I know he didn't miss this 350 too much lol
Great video, brother. I have the same problem . I had not driven the car for a week, and it wouldn't start when zi tried to start it. Tried jumping the battery, no luck. The fab is not working as well. Replaced battery, no luck. I'll inspect the battery cables. Also, the windows don't work and after changing the fab battery the doors still won't unlock the doors. WTF.
These cars are extremely electrical. Weak batteries, dying alternators etc will cause all kinds of weird issues. Don't just throw parts at issues tho, get it properly diagnosed first. The windows can be reset easily if they still get power. Doors are possibly a blown fuse. Hope you get it figured out. Thanks for watching 👍
i have a 08 250 and i push the start button and nothing happens, occasionally the gushes move but then they don’t, could it be the battery cables also?
You mean GS350, right? Fusible link is a possibility, but also make sure you are getting power at the starter end of the positive battery cable like the issue I had in the video.
I have is250 sports and, and someone back into the front end, and I can't opened the hook on the car hood to checked the battery, i,I, sorry to,hear that, her luck is about like mines, I was at the drive thru at Walgreens, someone backed into me, now they reported to DMV
My negative one ( passenger side) broke the bolt off from where it was originally screwed in and I have no where to put the ending of the ground any advice ?? 🤦🏾♂️
I’m thinking about buy one they say the replace the defog sensor and a week later no start is it worth me buying for a couple thousand 150 thousand miles on it
If they are already lying to you that's a bad sign. I would not buy that particular car unless you have a good mechanic or you know how to fix cars yourself. There's no telling what else they could be lying about.
I think I’m having the same issues on my is250 awd I brought it off a lady all it do is click and I replaced starter and battery and negative cables but I didn’t check the positive cable I change out the fuel pressure sensor with the one I have in my is350 and no start still could there be anything else I hear the starter clicks
Don't just throw parts at it. Get it diagnosed by a professional. FYI an alternator has nothing to do with starting, it just powers the car after it's already running.
Dude those clips are annoying lol, I’m having the same issue, I replaced the alternator and can only get the car to start with jumper cables. Once I remove them the car dies
@@Crist1an01 Just take the battery out and have it tested at a local parts store. It's a good idea to replace the battery along with the alternator. Honestly if you can't afford a new OEM alternator then it's better to get a good tested used OEM one over any aftermarket part. Did you have the original alternator tested before you replaced it?
@@Jedi_Luke the battery is brand new, I bought it a couple months ago, but car kept dying. It would die if I didn’t drive it for a couple days. I took it to autozone, They said my alternator wasn’t holding a charge, and now I replaced it with a duralast one. I think youre correct with getting a oem, I thought it was just as good, same price and looks the same as well.
@@Crist1an01 well damn if the prices are the same then definitely ALWAYS go OEM bro. Lexus and Toyota are very particular about the parts they use. I got a brand new transmission seal for my Toyota sienna the other day for $7 and it leaked a tiny bit. I took it out and replaced it with a OEM one for $38 and the leak is completely gone. Moral of the story, these aftermarket parts don't compare to the factory stuff. These cars are reliable because they come with good parts from the factory.
Please help. I recently had my ac compressor changed and when I tried to leave my car wouldn’t start. It’s giving symptoms of a starter issue but I just had the starter replaced less than two months ago. Do you think my cable could be the problem? Also upon taking off the last bolt from the old part the mechanic didn’t have his hand under the compressor so it dropped down and was hanging from the wire/cable if that helps any. Please respond my car has been down for over a month now
First of all, you need a new mechanic if he can't figure out what he messed up. This starter cable goes behind the engine so I doubt any AC work affected the starter. You can test the end of the cable going to the starter to make sure it's getting power. If I had to guess I'd say he blew one of the fuses or fusible link. You need to find a better mechanic to diagnose it.
Did you ever get the proper part number. I changed my battery 2 weeks ago and it died again. I want to order the exact wires from lexus. Were you ever able to get the oem wires
Oh no I definitely didn't use OEM wires. I'm sure they're over $100. I got generic cables from O'Reilly Auto parts and kept it moving. Not everything has to be name brand, just as long as it's the correct gauge of wire. I've had zero issues with store cables.
Did you get the dashboard and door panels replaced under you or did prior owner get it done? Dealership won’t replace mine because I missed some deadline 😠
The previous owner replaced mine. He's had the car since brand new. Yeah there was only a 10 year period to replace them. I wouldn't have bought this car if they weren't replaced already. Best you can do is keep checking the junkyards or the Facebook groups for someone doing a part out.
wow didn’t know there was a 10 year period. I must of got mine done right at the deadline I’ve had my 06 350 since 2015. got it done in 2016. 225k miles and now having the issue in this video but before this been bulletproof.
Lexus Canada won't help me either, and I approached them six years ago shortly after I bought my 2007 IS350 in 2016 - used of course. I'm the second owner. Shortly after I bought it, the dash started cracking. Now, the dash looks like a jigsaw puzzle, and the door panels are all smudgy. Every pvc based component on this car is complete crap. Door and window trim. Outside trunk release. All junk. I was such a Toyota fan. No more.
They stayed off for about 4 days, and came back on. I tried cleaning the MAF again and replaced the upper and lower intake gaskets, ran a bottle of STP fuel system cleaner with a full tank of gas and now it's been little over 2 weeks with no codes at all. I knew this car didn't have any actual "problems" it just needed some maintenance to 16 year old parts.
i have the same exact car, 2007 IS350, same color too, AND the same problem. i replaced the fusible link but i’m getting a short on the 30 amp fuses in that same area. no crank, no start but i’m getting power into the car. i just can’t get it to start for some reason.
@@jamesmir89 I just got some from the local parts store. Go into AutoZone or Orielly and head near the battery section. You just need cables that are as long as the original ones. You'll need new battery connections and have to bend the ends of the cable to connect the the starter, but it's not super hard. Do it only on a cold engine tho.
I only paid $6500 for it from a older Asian guy. He was the original owner. This no start from the battery cable was the only issue I had. It's been absolutely perfect. Change your oil on time and you'll be golden
Check the valve on the fuel rail. Or Have someone push the start button until the lights turn on without holding the brake pedal, then you get down by the gas tank and listen for a hum sound. The fuel pressure switch is a common fail point on these cars.
Hey i have an 08, same color lol, but hey did it like drain your battery too? I jist like got in my car n it just wouldnt start, n like died halfway thru the steering wheel comin down* on start up without cranking at all
@@Jedi_Luke hey thank you for the reaponse, it ended up just veing my battery was bad, always a good first step in troubleshooting your car to get a new battery 🤷♂️
@@gavintexidor4895 Yes that's 100% correct. Most people overlook it because they think "oh my dash lights come on, so the battery must be fine." They couldn't be more wrong lol
Oh mine still worked fine. No start was the only thing I had. Your screen digitizer is bad or the whole unit. These cars are old so stuff will start failing eventually.
I didn't use OEM wires, I just got some battery cables from a local parts store and cut the ends off. Then I replaced the ends with OEM connections. Much cheaper that way. Just universal cables like these 👇 www.ebay.com/itm/353690334618
i have nearly a month with my 2014 is250 and today i did a little trip to the groceries and my car just did not want to start at all, however all the componets were working as usual (dash, radio, lights and even de ac fan was blowing because i forgot to turn it off) but every time i hit the start up button i did nothing. I tried a couple times and it did start up and drove to my home, hours laters i tried to start the car again but it did the same.. check my battery voltaje and it was good, all components working as normal but my car just dont want to start up. Any advice?
@@Jedi_Lukethe battery voltaje is 12.6v and when I try to start the voltaje just drops to 12.10v so I guess is not the battery. I noticed that when I try to start it Makes a little electric sound I don’t know how to explain it but like a “wheezing” noise.
@@Jedi_Luke just tried to jump it with another car and the car still doesn’t even crank, just lights/accessories on. I also checked all the fuses twice and they are all good.
jedi, glad i found your vid, i dont know if my problem is same as your, this morning i cranked it up , ran for 3 seconds, turn off, cant turn anymore after that, check battery, even try jumping, nothing, the positive terminal was hard cake white, clean it and put back, nothing all day, just went out 7 hours later, crank it up, ran for 1 second and it shut off again,, please help
You're gonna have to check both ends of the cable way down by the starter. If your cable was cake white then it's most likely corroded all the way and time for replacement. That happens on older cars.
@@Jedi_Luke i will today, jedi, do the cable, but like i also say, wonder about anything fuel related, i went out and start and it crank up and run about 1 second and stop, originally i thought it was starter, but this tell me not starter.? maybe?
Do you mean crankshaft sensor? The crankshaft is not something that would just break for no reason. My car ran fine, I just went out to start one day and it wouldn't start. It just needed a new positive battery cable
I bought 2012 IS250 a week ago. Owner said and replaced a new battery. I enjoyed driving around. All of sudden, no power at all, can't start and lock. What went wrong ? Help !
Damn that's a steal - 125k, one owner $6500! You did not say what year and where? I guess your seller has not been paying attention to the used car market.. Which is good for you! LOL I paid $12K for my 08, 103K, 2 owner, well maintained (NC).
Mine is a 06 and it was in Alabama. The reason I got a good deal was because 1. He really didn't need the money, guy had a 2021 Lexus LS in the driveway and 2. Not everyone is looking to get over on people. These 350's are nice cars, but very tiny and almost 20 years old. This used car market is insane right now, but if you look hard enough you can find good deals. I just got a 05 Acura RL and 02 Acura MDX for $1200 each....it does help that I'm a mechanic who can fix most things that most people would have to go to shops or pay someone to do lol.
@@Dallas2Much That won't fix anything if you have a corroded positive cable like I did. You gotta replace the whole wire that goes from the battery down to the starter.
Bought 2011 IS250 a week ago. Owner said a new battery. After changing oil, I enjoyed. All of sudden, battery died at my driveway n, no power at all. Can't lock and start. Help me bro !
