Scott, many thanks, I figure you just helped me save about $400 with this repair help (expensive tow to shop). Your video was spot on and the replacement went just as shown in the video. Our Odyssey went down the day before my shoulder surgery and I ordered the part online the night before I went in after watching your video. 5 days later with partial use of my right arm I was able to change this part easily. From the questions asked, key info that helped me determine this was the problem was that the shift button could not be depressed at all, with the shift lock override I could not start in neutral either, had plenty of battery, but the car never even tried to engage the starter, it was a complete cut out. Came in and googled Odyssey won't shift or start and saw this video.
Thank you for posting this video because I’m having the same issues with my Honda Odyssey. Just ordered the part and hopefully this will solve my problem. Thank you
Just done mine an hr ago, all codes clear. Put some miles on it, smooth as a cat. I had codes p1717 and p0706 I believe. All pointing to this device. Next up transmission filter and fluids. 250k so far. Also mine is the 2007.
For anyone experiencing this on a 2007 Odyssey, I looked at the factory manual. It says to remove the battery, battery tray, engine cover and air cleaner. I haven’t had a chance to do it myself yet, but it reads as though it’s pretty simple once those are out of the way.
My dad's minivan is having the same problem, it cranks slowly, and you have to push the shifter to get it to start, we first thought that was the starter, replaced it, it made a difference, but less than a month later we were having the same issue. Thank you for this video, God bless you!!
I was told this may fix my problem, but I'm having doubts after watching some videos. My symptoms: Usually when cold, when I shift into drive, the car acts like it's in neutral. If I shift from drive to neutral and back to drive, it usually engages. It usually works fine after driving a couple of blocks, but it is getting more common and lasting longer. This is a 2003 Odyssey. I told the symptoms to a Honda employee and he seemed 100% sure it was the neutral switch. Maybe I wasn't explaining the problem fully. Any opinion, advice or questions? Thanks Probably unrelated, but the "D" on the dashboard never lights. P,R,N,D3,etc light up.
Hi i have a 2004 acura tl the d light is blinking and the chech engine is on the code is p0816 could that be the neutral safety switch too and someone know the different between the transmission gear selection swtich and neutral safety switch because my mechanic told me i have a bad neutral safety switch but the car manual say is the transmission gear selection switch tif someone can help me . Thank you
Hi Scott I have question about my 07 odyssey same time engine light comes up and a letter D it's blinking I scan and the code we find is p1717 you thing it's same part need to change
I am having exactly same issue with my 07 Odyssey. On a hot summer day, I took van out of parking lot and started driving on the road, the check engine light came on and D started blinking. I immediately stopped on the shoulder and turn off the van. Then started again, check engine light continued to on, but no D blinking. I checked the code, it is P1717. I didn't clear the code with hope it will go away by itself but so far its not gone. The van drives just fine, even with CEL light on. How did you fix your problem?
I have a 2004 honda odyssey. Do you know if the neutral safety switch in this year is any different than the 2006? I am needing to replace it but can't find any tutorials on how to replace it or figure out if this year is the same and I can use your tutorial.
You wouldn’t happen to know if this is approximately the same for 07 Honda Pilot? I’m guessing it is since they pretty much have the exact same everything else.
i have Honda OD 2006 and my reverse start freaking out when i put gear basicly do nothing O have to get a lot of gas to start move, Also neutral work as D. I just put new Neutral Safety Swich but problem still. I didnt disconnect the batery during the work i did.Maybe i burn new NSS ? OR i have to reset computer?
HEY SCOTT, Im having the same problem I replaced the starter still no crank or start. I GET A BUZZ NOISE UNDER THE STEERING WHEEL when I try to start it have you had this problem?
Did you find anything? I have a 2007 Odyssey and a P1717 code. I've been hearing a grating noise at high speed acceleration but I don't know if that has anything to do with the code I'm getting.
@@FonzoTheTrucker Many thanks! So you mean with the P1717 code you didn't do anything to the transmission? I changed my alternator one year ago and I'm not looking forward to doing it again. So difficult to get at. The Range switch looks like a piece of cake. Did you have other codes besides the P1717?
@@JackRainfield nah no other codes. My range switch is difficult to get to. I thought that's what it was at first! I didnt do anything to the transmission. But the next thing I'm going to do is do my timing belt. I dont know if it was done so I dont mind knocking it out.
@@FonzoTheTrucker Thanks, that's weird tho. I haven't seen any other reference to alternator with the P1717 code. But you have me thinking because the grating sound I'm hearing could be bearings on the alternator (that's only one year old!)
Bro. why after i replace this switch my CRV RE2 D light still blinking when i park at N for a few second then park at P light P and N both lighting and after that D blinking. before change that D blinking. Dtc code P0705.
when you buy the neutral safety switch new it's already set in neutral so when you jack up your car make sure your car is placed in neutral then replace the neutral safety switch while your car is still in neutral if not you'll still have blinking D lights and other issues because it's not reading right
I have 2007 odyssey and have all this covered and can't figure out how to remove that cover to get to the switch. Do you have cover also and how you opened up to get there?
What was your problem? Having this same issue too. Replace IMobilizer and reprogram Keys. New battery and new alternator. Checked all fuses and nothing. Van won’t start 😭
Sounds like they're just saying to match the new one to the same position as the old one. Some of the posts I've read say to put your car in neutral before removing the switch. The new one should be in neutral out of the box. I know this post is 2 years old and probably irrelevant to you, but may help someone else.
For anyone experiencing this on a 2007 Odyssey, I looked at the factory manual. It says to remove the battery, battery tray, engine cover and air cleaner. I haven’t had a chance to do it myself yet, but it reads as though it’s pretty simple once those are out of the way.
KSMike1 thx sir so much but I did change the neutral switch safety but I don’t why it’s some times gears are confused like it’s jumping and also in high way I drive like 100km per h and every couple minutes jumping also I do t why so please reply me and also when I let the gas and I don’t break also I Let the van to slow down by itself I want to comes to third gear or or second is jumping also so please replenish think you
vedat, I don’t know. Is your check engine light on (and if not are you sure the bulb isn’t burned out in the panel)? In the range switch connector, are the contacts accessible so that they can be cleaned? Otherwise, sorry but I can’t think of anything else unless you got a defective switch or something in the transmission itself is acting up. There’s a procedure to test the switch electrically but if it’s an intermittent problem the test won’t find it.
I have 2007 odyssey. My car won't crank in Park mode but it will crank in neutral mode. Interestingly, there is no check engine light. In this case, should I replace neutral safety switch? Because the car always cranks in neutral mode, I can always crank in neutral mode instead of Park mode. Are there any problems if I keep cranking in neutral mode? Thank you so much. This video is awesome.
@@scottlanier5133it's an 07 model and we did just have a check engine light but it was just a misfire it went away after the battery. I did have to turn the battery charger up to start to get it there and that blew two fuses for the radio and the GPS or back up. Dude you rock for responding to me.
@@scottlanier5133 all of the forward gears are fine or seem to be just reverse acts just like neutral. I will keep looking for a fuse or something and thank you again for even respondening you sir are awesome.
It was our least reliable Honda ever I admit but we bought pre-owned and really don't know how well it was treated. It's still probably better than any caravan. Why we recently went to the sienna.
