After evening the series with a tense, hard-fought victory in Game Two, the Cardinals cruised to a 5-0 win, and in turn a 2-1 series lead, in Game Three. Cardinals starter Jeff Suppan did it all, throwing eight shutout innings, and hitting a solo home run in the 2nd, laying the early foundation for his ultimate NLCS MVP honor.

Three years in a row of facing Beltran in the LCS, my god. I cannot tell you how good it felt to see him freeze on Waino’s curve.

Beltran was not with the Astros in 2005. He was with the Mets.

Whats ironic is that Suppan also hit a home run off Steve Trachsel and the Mets last 2005 season on September 10, also in Busch Stadium (Busch Stadium 2; this video is Busch Stadium 3). Suppan had two career home runs (one in the 2005 regular season and one in the 2006 postseason), both in Busch Stadium, both against the Mets, both against Steve Trachsel. This was mentioned on 34:30 by the broadcasters And Endy Chavez almost took away Jeff Suppans home run in left field. If Endy was playing deeper, he would have had a sensational home-run-grabbing-catch, but with a light-hitting-pitcher being the hitter, he was playing in.

31:42 for the Suppan HR. I love how he just put his head down and ran.

That's how the game used to be played. It was better that way imo...

We'll never see a pitcher hit a homerun ever again in the post season (maybe Shohei). I like the DH in both leagues but this kind of a moment won't ever happen again. That said....the strategy of no DH takes away from the game, makes the manager less important...
