I am absolutely partial as I have "a dog in the race" but this, in my humble opinion, is without question the greatest college football game in NCAA history! Additionally, I believe #10 is the greatest college QB as well and illustrated the greatest single game performance by any player of all time. It's totally possible that Texas wins a Natty in 2004-05 had they not slipped up to Oklahoma 12-0...At the very least, they contend and I don't think they get totally blown out like the turds from Norman, OK do. I also undoubtedly believe that if VY discovers that he is NOT drafted #1 to the Texans (as was the case) then he does NOT enter the NFL draft and in-fact returns to Texas and contends for another National Championship in 2006-07. I honestly don't know the outcome as OSU was a legit team and got absolutely waxed by the Florida Tebow's by like 4 TD's I believe. When Timmy had the rough game and during his presser he publicly acknowledged that moving forward he would work harder than anyone, anywhere...Period. He just seems to be the kind of dude you don't throw doubt at. He certainly wasn't speedy like VY but he was similarly dynamic and was/is a fantastic leader and he's the type of dude you just don't get in the way of his total and absolute WILL POWER either. Would have been interesting to see the outcome to say the least. Maybe, instead of USC going for a 3-'Pete' it is Texas instead pushing for that notoriety. We shall never know...Hookem! \m/
I was literally chuckling to myself when watching that earlier thinking...oh just you wait bud! Vacating wins, vacating trophies...although as a native Austinite and a diehard Longhorns fan, I absolutely believe that VY NOT winning the Heisman was massive. The saltiness and grit that #10 had when they called #5's name for the hardware in a "landslide fashion" was a huge catalyst for Texas winning the Natty! Period. \m/
Hats off to USC, the reason this game was so unbelievable is because both teams were historically great. Beat damn college game I have ever seen and probably ever will. Vince young is the goat. Hook em.
Even though Pete Carroll lost this game, he's still one of the few coaches to win a national championship and a super bowl, so he should eventually end up in somebody's hall of fame.
Man, Pete Carroll was really quite refreshing to listen to in his post-game interview. He absolutely gave credit where due and showed mad respect to that Texas squad. I unquestionably agree with their decision to go for the 4th down conversion as 6" likely was the difference in 35 consecutive wins and 3 Titles vs. 1 Game losing streak and Runner-up 2005-06. What a bunch of straight up dudes we had back then! Mack was so damn good at recruiting and he's got the type of character and leadership I want to see in the person I call POTUS. This game was truly a matchup of All-Time Heavyweights! Something like 67 dudes combined ended up on NFL rosters...not immediately after the 05-06 season but when folks finished their collegiate careers. I will forever relish the shot of VY posturizing Frostee Rucker on that 4th down run to score with :19 remaining...that USC squad had guys like Rey Maualuga, Clay Matthews, Darnell Bing, the previously mentioned Frostee Rucker, Brian Cushing, etc. VY took those boys to the Prom and just danced around them all night! Hookem! \m/
Yup. It's one of the great tragedy's of sports. But Vince being Vince, he required a special person to coach him. To him it was all about winning and he found himself at a place, in a league really, that that wasn't what it is all about. The best players in the world are not in professional sports, bro. Those are just the ones that survived the ins and outs of life to be there.
I saw a long time ago where Vince Young said had he known he was not going to be the number one pick in the draft he would have stayed at Texas and Senior year
As a Longhorn, having graduated just a few years prior to the '05 season, I loved watching this game. Even when we were down 12 with 6:40 to go, I knew it would be tough, but I also knew if any team could do it, Texas could. The only thing that is a blemish with this game is the obvious bias of Keith Jackson for USC. Watching replays of the game on instant classics is a little less enjoyable because it was clear he was pulling for the Trojans.
@@staticsound1422technically speaking USC were back to back national champions and were on a 34-0 win streak. So yes..they were the better team up to that point
Great game. Ohio State was a missed field goal and Troy Smith starting , away from beating Texas that year and beating USC also lol. Definitely pulling for anyone over USC that year and was glad it was Texas.
Even if Troy Smith would have started for Ohio State, Texas would have found a way to win. It was just their year. One of the only teams that could have gone into the Horseshoe and won when Ohio St was at the top of their game
