rome was predicting a comfortable usc win over texas before the game. humble pie, rome. I watched vy play in h.s. at houston madison. when texas signed him, I told a buddy that texas would win a natty with him.
I can’t believe this was 15 years ago. That 4th and 2 was the right call. That play had worked all night and they didn’t want to give VY the ball back. They just didn’t get it.
Regarding USC's final timeout before the 2 pt conversion. Nobody ever brought this up..... the ABC announcers, Herbstreit/Corso/Fowler in the post game analysis, Jim Rome here; and the USC coaching staff missed it..... there were 12 USC players on the field for the try. A USC saw this at the last 2nd and called the TO. You can argue that's on the coaching staff for not getting the right personnel on the field, but that's not on the staff for the TO call.
@TheMTHproductions fuck that... that USC team would of anally destroyed every SEC team that year, they did it 2 years before by beating that year's undefeated Auburn ... this was all Vince Young
@TheMTHproductions You are wrong on the 2 D's Tx D vs TT- 5 yards per play over 93 plays in blowout w/ 30 yds per drive despite subs late Bama D vs TT- 5.48 ypp over 60 plays & 30 yd per drive TX held Mizzou to 330 on 86 plays w/ 3.8 per & Carolina gave up 500+ USC d'ed AzSt & ND better than LSU and Tenn SC's O WAS that good. Arky's 05 D was on par w/ the 06 one that they won the SEC west with- USC's starters had 14 yards per play! SC also d'ed up Arky better than any SEC team other than Bama
That season's polls amazed me - Texas goes into Top 5 Ohio State and beats them in their home stadium as a first-game of season. Yet, USC is the only #1 Ranked team all season, having beaten NO ONE, much less as a visitor. And Rome says it clearly: their defense was bad ALL SEASON LONG. This was an illustrative season for the competence of CFB ranking voter: almost Zero.
@TheMTHproductions Western Kentucky scored more on LSU in one quarter than alabama did in 4 and overtime... Since when does shitty offense become amazing defense? Both of these teams would SMACK this years lsu and bama teams.
The announcers in the game didn't notice it, but the post game coverage like this should have caught the reason why Carroll had to call their last time out on the 2 point conversion. They had 12 men on the field and it would've been a free attempt for Texas. Now, he and the coaching staff deserve to be criticized for having 12 men on the field in the first place, but still...
"See the thing is in the SEC they actually play some type of D. The big 12 and pac 12 do not and that was clearly evident in this game." Actually, this game had very good defense, the offenses were just better. They both averaged over 50 points a game, almost all of that in the first 3 quarters. Hell, against Colorado, Texas had 70 points with 23 minutes left in the game. Both defense held the offenses two scores below their average in this game.
