@@zackaryfitz5308what conference wasn't relevant/competitive? Pac12 had USC and Oregon. Big12 had Texas and Oklahoma SEC was full of powerhouses like LSU, Florida, Bama, Auburn Big10 had Ohio St and Michigan ACC had Miami, Florida St, and VT Every single conference had a team win a national championship in the 2000s.
I’ve been a fan of the Hokies since I was little, I had a couple family members attend Tech and one was a season ticket holder, I remember fondly being SO excited for this game as a middle schooler, only to be disappointed to be down 24-0 at half, then losing 48-7. That’s the thing with the Hokies, I love ‘em, win, lose, or draw, but damn we have a hard time playing big stage games….
Yeah, LSU wasn't this good, and we weren't this bad. We just caught them on their best night. It's a shame we didn't get a rematch in the national championship this year
It was sad of what happened at Virginia Tech before the season. However, on this day of the game, the game had to go on. LSU still had an objective to complete
This was a royal physical beatdown. WoW! Had to be tough on V-Tech fans cause this was during the glory days of their program but it was just LSU's year. Always loved to watch Jacob Hester run. He and Payton Hillis are mirror images of each other to me.
We had gone to Virginia and they beat us for sure. Their student body chanted "over rated" at the end. The next year they dodged the game against LSU and we had to wait for them a few years. Virginia Tech's brain trusts decided to drop the game with LSU so they could play Southern Cal in the season opening. Later, the year before they came to Baton Rouge, Tech had a horrific shooting on campus, so when they came to Baton Rouge, the tigers let up a little so they would have a chance. We only beat them 48 to 7. That night was sad in so many ways. You see, LSU went to the locker room in tears at the end of the game, when asked by the coaches why the tigers were so upset, the D line cried because they thought they had killed them. They felt better after learning that no players died just their Virginia's reputation for being a football team and their big nasty mouths. Suck it up butter cups. See you later if you get better.
I was at this game in the north end zone next to the LSU band. In 50 years of attending games in Tiger Stadium do I ever remember witnessing such an intense and withering 1st Half performance by a Tiger team. The stadium was as loud and raucous as it's ever been. By halftime we were all exhausted. The look on the Hokie fans faces were hilarious. They couldn't comprehend what was happening to them. They had been so arrogant that day bragging about their # 1 defense in the ACC. LMAO !
Payback from a few years before. I think it was Dominic Davis who fumbled a punt and then it all went down hill. This LSU team was so complete. Should have never lost to Kentucky or Arkansas. Would have went down as an all-time team but still handled Ohio St which was so satisfying.
Taking a break from editing this month so i'm not really taking requests at the moment, but I do already have this game and the 05 Sun requested on this page finished and will try to get them up soon.
I remember some numpty telling me LSU shouldn't have been in the title game that year. I asked him who else? And the idiot bumbled out VPI ( hokey hokey high! ). He didn't have much to say when I shot back that LSU beat them by about 5 TDs. Didn't VahTech come in 2nd in the stripper category ( polls - lol ) at the end of the year?
Georgia was the true national champion this year. LSU was lucky to selected to play in the national championship game. It should’ve been Georgia vs. Ohio State after LSU lost to unranked Arkansas after Thanksgiving
@@kylegross1081 USC was fkn overrated..... And it's the other way around....the BCS kept UNDEFEATED AUBURN from playing USC in the National Championship game in 2005!
