Most diesel aftermarket tuners will “store” the oem tune before it uploads the custom tune. The tuner is then locked out from being used on another truck until the custom tune is withdrawn from the ECM and the stock tune is reflashed in it. One of the first things I always do is use the customers tuner to install the oem tune and see if the problem goes away. It’s a quick and easy first step in troubleshooting these vehicles.
The video was chock full of relevant info, and kept moving fast. Thank you for that. (Many videos get bogged down while we viewers have to wade through bolt removal, test equipment setup, and data collection.)
Similar issues all I’ve come up with so far is it something to do with the van corruption in the ECM usually can’t communicate through the enhanced side but you can communicate through the generic side with scan tool. The E Sims are losing the ability to be self identified by scanners and other onboard modules but are communicating on the generic side pretty sure it’s going to wind up being faulty ECM’s, and so-called rebuilds that are just repaired are missing the issue
That was very good. What I really liked was the how u showed us we can pierce the wire and load while connected to the ecm. Of course we have to make sure we do the right wire!!
Awesome solid Diag! I always suggest a reflash before calling a pcm as well no matter what. These pcms are not cheap. Thank you for sharing this solid pcm diagnostic strategy. And props to Keith Perkins for suggesting this channel 👍
I know this Hass to be a common occurrence, but this is the first reference in many pages I follow as well as no information with Identification 🤔 thanks for taking the time to share with us guessing it’s so complicated most don’t even attempt to elaborate maybe
I am fighting a no start issue right now and it seems that the fan clutch has faulted and is putting the ECM in Rom Boot Mode. It has faulted three times now, the second time I changed the fen clutch out as I had found some wires showing copper possibly shorting out together or to the fan shroud brackets. This third time I am thinking the ECM is corrupt and needs to be replaced. Point being......The fan clutch can cause some major issues to the ECM as I am finding out.
Always a challenge when you're 3rd or 4th set of hands on a vehicle. Aftermarket tunes, deletes and who knows what else. Normal diag procedure goes out the window. Good job covering your bases with the shop and vehicle owner. Thanks for your efforts
Thanks KillJD! If we can do it, you can do it. This was fun because I got a chance to collaborate with a friend on this diagnostic. Craig and the Atlanta team are great!
Yeah it’s easy to make your own load test lights with headlamp bulbs, sockets, and soldering cut T-pin ends on the wires. I have a whole range of loads of test lights just for testing these circuits.
thank you , good diag I was working yesterday on 99 dodge ream 2500 5.9 diesel no start and I had no high pressure fuel , low side was good . how ever all the hits were for hgh pressure pump , had a code P0216 injection pump failure . but for me to make the call for this pump was hard lack of information how the system work, the fuel injection control module has 1 power was good, ground is coming from ecm and there are like 6 wires coming from ecm to hpfcm, I was wondering what they do this wire how about if is not receiving any command from ecm , all data ,mitchell or identifix did not have description and operation more than they communicate in between . I decided to crack loose each injector line at cylinder head and thighnen , the last one on the back was very easy to turn. after that it wanted tom start, took a while and started, a trick a teacher told us on a class. do you know what type of information they are exchanging or how they do it , on scan data there was not pid for actual and desire fuel. of course snap on zeus and x431 launch . thanks .
Can someone explain to me how at 45 sec his tattoo and hair is on the right side of body but then at 1:15 it on his left side, is this a camera trick i'm not picking up, mirror image, I mean a left arm is a left arm WFT am i missing it's driving me crazy.
I have a truck with exactly the same problem, i replaced the ecm with a reman truck started road tested the truck for about 5 miles and truck stalled has same problem again 😑
I put an H1 bulb inside of a $10 test light. 4.5 amp test light baby. Just make sure you wrap it with some red electrical tape so you know. You have to grind off the ring part on the H1 bulb to fit it in case anyone wants to do this. 2 minutes on a grinder will get that thing off.
Awesome and really good info you share and where can I get those tools that can load or to use the amps in series in the circuit to test if the circuit can handled . thankyou and cheeeeers
hi guys darren here from uk, question would you have found problem using just generic scan tool or was gem tool key, thanksguys you get much more diagnostic time than we do in uk
I'm sorry for the delay Darren. If you recall, we did take a look at data with an aftermarket scan tool as well. Yes, we could have but using a factory scan tool makes life easier in circumstances like these. Especially the wiTECH. The network topology is the strong point of this tool.
I have a 2007 Dodge Diesel at a dealer shop right now that won’t crank. They have replaced the TIPM and are waiting on a PCM & ABS to come into the shop. $6k and not sure of anything. Any diagnostic tech’s like you that you could recommend in the Portland Oregon area?
I have a dodge 2007½ 6.7 with the same issue. It has the delete done with an H&S XRTPRO tuner and egr removed completely. What are my options without going totally stock again?
@@ItzMazz I just put a new ecm on it. I didn't try to reprogram the old ecm so I can't say if that would have fixed the problem. I ordered the new ecm already tuned by an H&S tuner but for some reason the truck didn't have the power it had before, so I just retuned the new ecm with H&S tuner. So far the truck is working nicely.
@@ItzMazz I actually didn't order it myself, the mechanic at the garage where I had my truck ordered it so I have no idea where he ordered it from. It was a refurbished ecm and it was around 2k and they gave me something for the old ecm too.
Has anyone resolved this issue? I have the same exact thing going on with my 2007.5 6.7 3500. Been through 4 ecms changed all battery and ground cables and still having same issue 😢 can someone help out please? I’d greatly appreciate it
Battling same issue, died going to work, towed to dealer had it a week and finally called them saying bad ECM. No vin number or different one, and said no codes, paperwork I got doesn't have what they did and said $3500 for ECM. So had it towed home, looked on line for ECM found and outfit life time on ECM they asked me what happen an told them. He asked for codes which I said there was non, person there should be and needed to scan. They wanted to make sure that it wasn't an ECM. Barrowed scanner and came up with 4 out of the 5 on video C2206, C2202, U0100 and U0141 which also had ABS. They suggested R2 the ABS module, did and still same thing. One thing I noticed fuel no prime, glow plug no light on, and battery charge light not on. Hell the CTS3 I have when plugged in will turn on, shouldn't not until the engine is running. So now a month going and will call the ECM outfit say no work with ABS change but, now wondering if it needs to be vin programmed. Frustrating as hell. Also noticed that the ECM has been replaced before I just wish I new what reason for I bought the truck in late 19, second owner.
Career technician, similar issues, including lost communication with modules on bus C .. replacement of failed doorman tip on the gateway module restored communication, and returned high and low voltage is back to 3 1/2 and 2 1/2 V gateway was pulling negative bus to 1/2 a vote…. Suspect, corrupted ECM files most likely due to programmer can’t communicate with ECM through the enhanced, but can communicate through generic all kids working no codes can’t reprogram due to no communication through the enhanced side guessing time for New ECM.
Topnotch video please keep them coming , i have two questions one is is it true that Picoscope is working on an all in one scope if so please let me know the details and the number two question is could you tell me where can i get some of those piercing probes Keith Perkins used in his video GM Class 2 Network Diagnosis Tips . Thanks truly to all you guys at Trained by Techs for all the high tech information and great videos .
8power0, I'm sorry for the delay but Mario and Drews Auto are correct. AESWave is a great source for most diagnostic and scope equipment . They are amazing people as well. I haven't heard anything about the all in one Pico Scope.
I have a 2007 just like the video. Replaced the PCM 4 times in the last ear and one TPIM. Works for a while and then on road the lighten bolt comes on then check engine light. Loses VIN and no start. can't find the issue causing this. Did the reflash on video solve the issues or do you know what solved the end issue. Thanks great information.
Me too. 07 6.7 3500. Remaned ecm solves issue short term. On my 3rd new ecm after fixing various electrical shorts, censor issues and new batteries. No shop will touch this issue. Please help 🙏
