Unfortunately, the second-generation Mini Cooper S also has its downside and is known to be unreliable. The 1.6-liter turbocharged (THP) engine that Peugeot-Citroën designed with BMW is known to have problems such as really high oil consumption, timing chain problems 'death rattle', cooling system leaks, VANOS failure, and premature clutch wear.
