Thank you that was awesome. I was just given this car and this seems to be the only problem with it.

I've got a 2010 Chevy Malibu LS 2.4 your video helped me with a timing issue on it. Thank you! After getting it back together and running it now has a po 0016 & a po 171 any idea which Ave. I should take to diagnose these codes.

Hello I've got a timing issue as well on a 2013 2.4 ecotec the chain isn't lined up with the marked links how ever there is no slack in the chain and i don't see anything broken such as guides or sprockets. Do you have any idea why it has gotten out of time? It only has only 90k miles on it.

The only time it will line up with the colored links is when you first set the timing, and then occasionally there after. It is not likely that it jumped time if there is no slack in the chain and it still runs. More than likely depending on your trouble codes you have an issue with the cam actuators. If you pull them out and there is anything stuck in the screens replace them and don’t go cheap. Use AC Delco. They are not the same so be sure to get the intake and exhaust in the correct spots and plugged in to the proper plugs in the wiring harness. You can install them backwards but they won’t work properly. They are color coded ( on the plug in).

My rpm in my 08 Malibu 2.4 4 speed trans fluctuate about 200-300 rpms but only above 40 mph and sometimes a hard shift between 2-3 it's driving me crazy trying to figure out have u had any customer cars do something similar it's not throwing any codes

I don’t think that is an engine issue. If you are holding the throttle constant when this occurs I would lean more toward a torque converter that is going from lock to unlock. If you have access to a scan tool where you can see the live data from the trans watch the lockup command for the torque converter, if it shows as locked when this is happening I would check the condition of the trans fluid. If it is dirty change the trans fluid. I don’t think these cars have a replaceable trans filter but if it does change that while you have the pan off. To refill it there is a full cap on top of the trans on the drivers side. It is a black plastic cap. Add 2 quarts of Dextron VI then start the engine. With the engine running add two more quarts, shift the car from path to reverse, then to drive and back to park two or three times. Then go under the car, with it running in park there is a small plug on the trans by the passenger side axle shaft, it is a 10mm. Pull that plug with a drain pan under it. If fluid comes out let it run out till it is just a drip then put the plug back in. If it doesn’t run out add fluid until it starts running out. The engine MUST be running when you do that. Replace the plug and you are ready for a test drive. I hope this helps.

I got a p0010 but I only ever see people replacing the camshaft solenoid when they have p0010 and p0011 would it be advised to replace the camshaft solenoid with only the p0010 appearing?

What was the codes? P0000?
@JosephVollmar

I don’t remember what the exact codes that this car was throwing were, but for the intake cam actuator it could be a P0010, or a P0011, and the exhaust codes would be a P0013 or a P0014. If you have one throwing codes I would replace bot at the same time just to be on the safe side. It is not necessary, but can save you work in the long run.
