After borrowing my truck to a buddy he noticed a leak from my pinion. Being a good dude, or what he thought was being a good dude, he replaced the oil seal. Unfortunately, he smoked the pinion nut on and smoked the bearings. We're going to replace them all in this video.

Nice…how many hours should this take a proper rear end shop to rebuild? I already have the master rebuild kit , ring and pinion, bearings shims nuts crush collar etc.. I’m getting quotes from 800-1800 in labor alone

Thx for the great video! I imagine that was 25in/lbs? Instead of 25ft/lbs on the flange nut? Getting ready to do this next weekend. Depending on weather.

Can you replace just the yoke side pinion bearing and not have to worry about it shifting any spacing In the diff itself?

Theoretically, if you use the same brand/part number bearing, yes. That doesn't account for any variations in manufacturing etc though. The safe answer is to measure with the Ford gauge tools every time you replace a bearing, but that's not always feasible.

What is the 80/90 product you are using?

I use royal purple max gear 75W-140 don't use 80/90 in this differential and don't forget the slip additive if you use a gear oil that doesn't already have it in it!

I really hate doing that because of the possibility for differences in rear differentials- ill list what I used, but be sure to do your own research and make sure of what's called for for your rear. The Inner pinion bearing is Timken NP761271, race is NP998236. Carrier bearings are National 469 (x2) and 453X (x2). The pinion seal is 4278.

Complete bearing replacement, dependent on where and which brand bearings/races you go with can be pretty expensive- I think all together without replacing the ring and pinion/carrier I had about $300 in it. Of course, your results may vary dependent on your parts choices.

ill be that ahole guy lol don't ever hit it with that crap at least use the old race an a block of wood iv redone a few from guys doing it the best one was a guy used a cats pawl he missed 1 time scratched the race and it peeled the hardened surface off the race like paper then it pits the rollers. and of all the bearing in the hole truck that one is the most costly one of them all. good luck and thanks for sharing
