Why the dislikes? Your video was very helpful. My 8th Gen Civic 2007 had a similar failure. Overheated on Fway and check engine light came on. It was too late. Ignition coil caps were melted onto the overhead and the dipstick was charred, coolant spewed everywhere. 315K miles. I sent it Honda heaven. :(
Hi there! My car has a rough start up and its consuming the coolant really fast with no leaks causing it to over heat. Check engine light came on and I took it to a local auto shop. They didn’t find anything wrong with the car it just gave them a code of misfire in cylinder 1. I’m almost 95% that my head gasket is bad. Will replacing the head gasket fix this problem? Theres no milky color to the oil or no oil light.
Having no coolant showing up in your engine oil is good. If you're still losing coolant though, it means it's probably leaking out somewhere else, and that can be fixed with a new radiator or hoses. Anywhere the coolant flows that might spring a leak. Unfortunately that also might mean a blown head gasket, which can also cause a cylinder misfire. Will a new head gasket fix the trouble code and the coolant leak? If you can't see coolant leaks anywhere else, but you see evidence of leaking from the cylinder head, there's a very good chance a new head gasket would fix both problems. Coolant can leak from a blown gasket and a blown gasket can also cause a cylinder misfire from loss of compression. Either way though, what you're describing sounds serious and should be addressed immediately or you put your engine at risk. Good luck!
@@DoctorFixMaster i drove my car for about 2 week and it was over heating on me everyday. People are telling me I need a new engine and head gasket. I think I did damage to my engine by driving it. The car still starts though?
@@LauraKittyGang Driving it everyday and overheating it certainly won't be good for it. How much damage was done is anyone's guess. Whatever the case, the root cause needs to be corrected immediately, and whoever does that work can assess the engine for damage. I'd do no more driving until that is fixed. Otherwise your bills could end up a lot bigger. If you can still start it, that's a good sign. If the root cause is corrected, you might be lucky enough to have avoided major engine damage.
Question. I think I’m too late but my 07 civic oil light came on shut off came to hault and noticed one of the coils was blown off and dipstick was melted into the tube it had oil when I got it towed home and I changed the oil. Am I too late I got new coil and oil let me drive it normally then bam same thing now it’s just sitting waiting to see what I do with it
Anything that makes your engine hot enough to melt the dipstick is probably doing permanent damage to your engine. What did your oil look like when you did the change? Did the same coil blow off the next time? Did you inspect the plugs? Normally the plug seals the cylinder. if you're blowing spark coils right off the coil, that tells me you don't have a good seal. Is the plug loose or rattling around in there?
My 2007 Civic leaks coolant from the back of engine hard to see where it's coming from those engines are not to crack at the front of the block but for they crack at the back or could this be a head gasket failure ?
Anything suspicious like a lot of smoke should have you immediately checking the oil level and the condition and cleanliness of the oil. A lot of old engines can smoke when there is nothing really wrong with them but worn pistons and rings. If your oil ever looks like a chocolate milkshake, you have a crack in the engine block and you'll need a new engine.
Hey doctor enjoy your civic repair videos. Do you happen to have a engine crack? It is most common on the 2006 to 2009 models where the engine block will have a line crack leaks coolant.
Good point. That can also produce the same symptoms as a blown head gasket. In my particular case, the mechanic who opened it up for me to have a look said it was indeed a blown gasket, but what you're suggesting is a very real (and apparently common) problem that people should be aware of. You'd diagnose it in exactly the same way. (What a a bummer though...a cracked engine is a dead engine. Come ON HONDA!!) Thanks!
Honda has a reputation of quality, right? That's why people pay a premium for a Honda vehicle. I'm wondering what all the hype is about now. If we're blowing gastkets AND getting cracked engine blocks, I'm probably done buying Honda cars. Most people can deal with peripherals that need maintenance, but when there are major quality issues with the engine itself, its time to look for a brand where you aren't purchasing problems. The engine above all else must be bulletproof, or no sale.
Did you report this to your local Honda dealer? Supposedly this is a secret 10 year warranty and should replace it for free. I totally agree in every aspect. This 8th gen is where many people say “Honda went downhill” overall to many problems. To be honest I was about to purchase a 8th gen civic for the style, but hearing this makes me want to look else where. The newer civics so much better. I drive a 2003 civic btw.
Thanks for the tip. I think I will let them know. I haven't yet. The car had 140k miles on it. I figured it was well out of warranty, but its worth a try. :)
Holy smokes!! I cannot thank you enough. I contacted Honda Customer Service and they instructed me to take the old engine to the dealer for evaluation, which I did. I was 3 months from crossing the 10 year special warranty for this particular problem. They took photos of the old engine and determined that my problem was a cracked block (turns out the mechanic didn't actually spend any time looking at the head gasket, so they really didn't know). I've submitted my receipts for a used engine (from 2010 model year that is supposed to be beyond the years that had problems) re-install, and they are making good on their word by paying for it. I'm impressed! I wouldn't have thought that kind of devotion to customer satisfaction was for real. Wow!
