Watching again in 2021...I had forgotten how close this game was. OK wasted two scoring opportunities having the ball inside the 10 both times and coming away with 0 points. Also, Percy Harvin was one hell of a versatile player!! I believe he could've played any position on the field and been successful!!
Only thing was Percy had 20 or 30 players on the other sideline that had big time speed and quickness like him - this is not the BIG12 - SEC got sideline to sideline speed for yo a$$ - don’t get me wrong, Percy was probably the most talented player on the field but he had some competition that night (not TEXAS TECH)🤣 - 🏆🏈🐘ROLL TIDE
@@tynaeadams3562 are you suggesting that Oklahoma (who was in the Big 12 when this game played) had 20-30 players with as much speed and quickness as Percy Harvin that night???
@@emmettredding1 Florida had that type of speed (not Oklahoma) - teams like Oklahoma, USC, Ohio State, Clemson all have great players with speed and quickness but those SEC rosters from top to bottom are different - that is the reason Ohio State could not get in rhythm passing against Florida in the national championship game in 07 because Florida offensive linemen were just to fast with quicker feet - I am a Bama fan tho - and our offensive line struggled last year against Auburn and LSU because they were quicker in the trenches than we were - taking nothing away from Oklahoma or other conferences but that speed is different down here - and there are fast guys all around the country especially in Texas and California but when you to talking about speed and those kids coming out of the state of Florida 😳😳😳🔥
@@emmettredding1 I think you missed what I was trying to say tho (this is not the BIG12) meaning that Florida is a SEC team not the guys Percy had been running past all year in the Lil12 my bad BIG12 🤣🤣 - SEC been controlling the national championship game since 06 - Jamison Winston and Ezekiel Elliot stole one (well Lane Kiffen gave Zek one with that dum ass play calling in the 2nd half) - Dabo got those 2 rings with SEC players on his roster just like Florida State did in 2013
@@tynaeadams3562 uhhh, no....not missing any point. I agree with your points about SEC dominance in college football. Judging by some of your remarks about Percy Harvin, you may be confused by who he played college football for. I assure you, it wasn't any Big 12 school!!
Percy Harvin was a man among boys. Part of that UF 4x1 team playing football. Florida’s defense stacked …holds a team who scored 60 + last 5 games to 14 and 7 through 3 quarters. OK got 0 points twice inside red zone. Gresham was a beast for Oklahoma.
Does anybody else feel like they played faster back then? Much tougher, obviously more aggressive, and just powerful. Bodies being thrown around. Peel-back blocks. Monstrous hits. The good ole days.
They had both Pouncey Brothers on one O-Line, Percy Harvin, Joe Haden, and Aaron Hernandez. Tim Tebow's job was to be a choir boy to distract from their 42 felony arrests. You could have won a national title at QB with that squad.
I'll always remember Sam Bradfords face at 32:34. He was throwing dimes all game, but this Florida secondary was stacked. He was like "what the hell, now they just take the ball out of my receivers hands?!"
You must not have seen Florida vs Ohio state. There was a difference back then when teams finally had to play the best SEC teams, the speed and depth was unparalleled then. It's been copied since.. But when the dust cleared the SEC was still standing. Only Nebraska, Florida St. and Miami could compare.
Great team for sure . If the gators were up by 45 with 2 minutes left in the game Spurrier would go deep . And expect the same treatment if the roles were reversed . I ve seen him after it was done to him the media asked how he felt about it and he said IDC I would have done the same thing and there's always next season . Lol
Yeah...Im a Gator from the 70s and I totally disagree with you. That 96 defense was very good but the 08 defense was incredible. OU's offense was very very very good and they were held to 14 points.
Only problem with 96 the SEC was not that good and they would not put 50 on the 2009 team !! and the game went through alot of changes in those years after 96 but yes I believe they were a little more talented but that 2009 team was alot more physical
I'm an SEC fan. I'd like to see Florida ascend to its usual spot which is alongside SEC powerhouses Alabama, LSU, and Georgia. The SEC can rotate possession of the national championship--Crimson Tide, Tigers, Bulldogs, and the Gators. It was lots of fun watching the Gators demolish the favored Buckeyes 41-14 in the 2007 BCS National Champsion game. Do it again, Gators.
That charge the line jump-pass is one of the most archaic plays to see in today's game. I remember seeing footage of Tom Harmon (Sr.) doing that in his days at Michigan.
@@fiesta061000 definitely more southern. Hell, the trophy should’ve been called the battle of the dirty south during Bama vs. LSU/Bama vs. UGA 2x. Oklahoma isn’t southeast but a southern state. Some great country music comes from there. (John Moreland/Turnpike Troubadours)
Because o forgot to add. Really Florida was a matchup nightmare for Oklahoma from a scheme perspective. Oklahoma took advantage of a lot of the older matchups but with the 4-2-5 you could bring pressure from more directions and play faster.
SC was still the BEST Team once All was said and Done after that 2008 season and 09 BCS. SC and Pete Carroll could have hung 60 up on Penn St If they wanted. If we're Honest, neither Florida, OU or TEXAS Mop the floor with Penn St like SC Did.
Everyone talks about how this team was Tim Tebow but honestly Percy harvin was more impact then Tebow. Fastest player I’ve even seen in college football he makes everything look blurring when running and could change directions on a dime.
Texas and USC and Florida and Chokelahoma wouldve been a great playoff game. Usc was loaded that year. Wouldve loved to see them vs this Florida team I can never take Chokelahoma seriously.
And for all talk about OU's offense......Florida had 2 100-yard rushers (Tebow/Harvin) and 200+ yards passing from Tebow, including some clutch throws in the 2nd half.
@@williamjones7589 OU outplayed Florida most of the game. If they don't turn the ball over twice in the redzone they could very well have won that game.
Yet, the Offensive line unit let him down on countless big yardage plays that could've changed the entire game. Not a Bradford fan, even I can see that... Momentum shifts are a biatch
I love seeing Heisman Trophy winners going to the Nat Championship game... and losing. Seems to happen more than winning. When UF won the NC 2 years earlier, they also beat a Heisman Trophy winner (Troy Smith).
I thought that too… till I saw him play BYU week 1 in 2009 and BYU stuffed him all game and Bradford. Florida’s D was just on fire in that championship game. Plus they were lucky we lost Rainey early in the game and Cornelius Engram couldn’t play.
I don’t remember the game going like this lol I was 10 but two first half picks and didn’t give up points? After that I would feel pretty confident. Also Harvin…. man if he stayed we probably win another championship really how good he was
You watch that first half and wonder if Tebow had any business being on the field. Oklahoma wasted so many opportunities. I forgot how close this game could have been.
My only wish is that Jamaal Charles and jermicheal Finley came back in 08 had they came back those 2 along with colt McCoy Jordan Shipley and Quan Cosby would have given Florida fits and Texas would have won a natty. Oh well 🤘🏿 will play the Gators in the sec can't wait
Oklahoma beat themselves. Handed the game to Florida. How many times did they not punch it in within 10 to 20 yards from the endzone. That is your difference maker. Oklahoma also had many more yards on the field but it doesn't matter if you can't score.
@@timcombs558 Ryan Renolds....the heart of OU's D was lost in October.....Tebow and company exploited the LB weakness that the Sooners had there. Again...these games come down to the small inches...
@@timcombs558 Demarco had over 1000 yards rushing could catch balls out of the back field and return kicks and was a future nfl pro bowler but yeah according to your logic in a close game he wouldn't have made a difference
The Florida DB’s/LB’s were nasty and young. Harvin was hands down the best player on the field, and Tebow obviously should’ve never been drafted in rounds 1-4 as a QB. (was one of the best college players ever tho) Never thought my Tide would dethrone ‘em and now have 7 straight wins against the Gators, as they brought in 7/8 five star players the next season…..one being Cam Newton.
The university of Oklahoma would have won if Demarco Murray was playing, he was our bread an butter in the red zone. Still has the most touchdowns in ou history! Boomer sooner all day baby! See you in the SEC gators! Lol
It's amazing going back and watching all these games all these years later and realizing something quite overwhelming!!! The SEC is what they are for a reason, THE REFS!!! My god, the missed calls I counted is staggering!! I just do not understand, like why, just let them play the game and be fair, or try to be!! Just a shame!!
OU played that game without Demarco Murray. We would have run it down their throat inside the red zone. Florida was very lucky that night. 2 red zone trips with no points and a blocked FG. The game was still 14-14 with 6 minutes left. SEC people act like OU wasn’t in the game. OU was the better team , just not that night.
Oh shut up dude...Florida's team was better all year. OU's schedule was a joke, Florida's was much tougher and you want to say Florida was just better that night. There were plenty of Saturday's all season long when Florida was better than OU. Brown had a great night against Florida so stop with the Demarco Murray crap.
@@rmg797 Florida was very fortunate that night. Wasted opportunities by OU. OU would have won 7/10 games if they played that many. Just wasn't OU's night like he said. Florida can't hold OU's jock strap. That hurt we put on you in the Cotton bowl will be a recurring theme for you all soon enough
@@joek1121 Who is Chris Rainey??? After looking him up, I see his only record at Florida is for most blocked punts. Here are Demarco's for OU: Former all-time leader in points scored (390) (passed by a kicker in 2014) All-time leader in touchdowns All-time leader in all-purpose yards All-time leader in receiving yards for a running back All-time leader in kickoff return average Chris Rainey may not have lived up to his potential because of injuries, but please don't compare him to Demarco. Rainey appears to have been a nice well-rounded player, but that is all.
I hate to tell you this but the game was rigged. No way Florida beats Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl. We had this thing. Frankly we did win this game. So hold your heads high Sooner fans. Oklahoma Sooners... 2009 BCS National Champions
Really ?? Funny how I didn't see them play for the National Championship. However, the #2 Gators DID play in the title game and beat the #1 ranked OU Sooners. Where was USC? Oh yeah, that's right. They were all at home watching two OTHER teams play for the title.
