*Hey man! Thanks so much for posting this video. I'm doing a 2007 RX350 but it looks to be an identical setup (in other words, the 2007 alternator, etc. is just as much of a pain in the backside to work on as your 2009 - lol).* _I'm fairly certain the 2007 RX350 is very similar to the '08, '09, and '10 model, especially in regard to all things engine/transmission. I do know they all have 2GR-FE engine (and dang, what a GREAT engine it was). It's a shame Toyota no longer makes any vehicles that have this 'near bulletproof' engine! : (_ _Oh & special thanks to you for being very detailed (around the __16:00__ mark) in regard to the correct way the washer sits on the tensioner pulley. It CAN fit either way (which is confusing if you aren't paying attention when you initially uninstall it), but you are 100% correct to take careful notice that the washer should only be oriented a certain way & installed accordingly. 👍🏼_ I'm kinda kicking myself for not taking photos (which I normally do) as I uninstalled everything... but I was just eager to get this thing swapped out asap. LOL And of course, 'asap' turned into the better part of a weekend! LOL Sure, it was definitely a long, tough job. However, by doing all the following work myself... I know I saved about $1200-$1400 (dealer pricing) or about $600-$800 at a mechanic: •installed new alternator •installed all new pulleys •installed new serpentine belt •complete oil/oil filter/air filter change •minor tuneup (new coils/spark plugs) •install new radiator neck filler Sorry for the long post! Thanks again man! And BTW, I just subscribed.

Thanks for the video!! This was a lifesaver! After just spending almost $3K to fix my A/C my husband decided to replace the alternator to save money....It's costing me money to fix my car and yet the mileage is very low _ only 83K. My husband would have saved himself some grief if he had watched your video first! I had to order the pulley tensioner on Amazon because of the reason you had Your detailed steps and showing part numbers were very helpful. I had to help my husband because it sure was a two-person job! Not an easy job to do. I like my Lexus but I didn't realize it is hard work to change just an alternator. Also, replacing the belt since we had things apart. I agree with you about being careful because my husband broke off a small piece.!!.. Let's see if crazy glue holds it together. LOL~ Thanks again!

I hope it does too! The constant heat really makes that plastic neck material super brittle.

Great video, it help me determine whether it was one of the regular pulleys or the tensioner pulley which are 2 different sizes. The tensioner pulley is smaller and the one on your link is the correct one but can't be bought on amazon unfortunately but you can find the exact one on ebay by the same febest brand.

Just did idle pulley and tensioner pulley on my 2008 lexus 350 with 275k KM and it went really well. Didn’t need the serpentine wrench tool. The only thing is that I broke a corner of the tensioner hole so careful with that. It took me about an hour. The garage quote me 1200$ CA but I dit it for 170$.

That must of been my 1 minute video you seen about the tensioner idler, I know it wasn’t the best lol, but the idler is doing good , today on 2-3-22 I was trying to replace motor mounts right side and transmission one but not the front, purchased anchor brand but transmission side didn’t sit right so kept the orginal on since it was still strong,,, but was able to check front while transmission was lifted and that one was bad so will replace soon, and the right mount one, engine wouldn’t clear so didn’t replace but will attemptagain,,, great video though

Your video is what gave me hope! After going to the dealer, parts stores and spent days looking for the match.... you had found it. Saved me a ton of heartache! I love this car, I just wish it wasn't so hard just to find the right parts the first time. ( I should say.... not all are hard to find, just some key ones )

Gates makes a pulley for the idler, i the part number is 36325. You're not exaggerating about how difficult it is to replace the alternator. My wife's alternator went out on her 2013 Avalon and i got very frustrated changing it and i will not do it again. It will be the Toyota dealer that gets that pleasure. After i changed the alternator the battery light stays on. Ive had it cleared but it comes back on but ut us showing charging 13.8 volts. Her Avalon has 150 thousand miles on it and going strong.

*Hard to kill a Toyota/Lexus! Do at least basic maintenance (oil changes, tuneups) and most Toyotas will go 200k miles EASILY.* _True story: several years ago, I had an old Corolla (1999 model) that was approaching 400k miles. I needed a truck when I started a new job... so I bought a truck & sold the Corolla (I think it had about 390k miles on it when I sold to some local kid - it was his first car). What's funny is I saw him one day at a gas station about 2 years later & asked him about the car (he was with his family in another car)._ *He said it was still going strong but it now had about 475k miles on it! Needless to say, "they don't make 'em like that anymore!". 👍🏼*

Great video. Would like to add: remove and replace the upper right idler pully while the old tensioner pulley is off. This will allow more access/maneuverability from underneath the RX350. Once the new upper right idler pulley is installed, then install the new tensioner pulley.

Where did you get the left and right idler pulleys? Do you have the part num for each? I have a 2008 rx350
