and watching all these 2009 postseason games makes me wonder can and will and when they will do it again. can they do it with the likes of judge stanton sanchez torres andujar voit gardner, etc.? this 2009 team was chock full of all stars and hall of famers. cc in his prime, even burnett was great in the postseason. there's no more core four, matsui, tex, a-rod, etc. if they get it done this year it'll be because of what every yankee fan has been bitching about for years: pitching pitching pitching. screw manny and bryce, pitching is the key. judge stanton and sanchez need to have 2017 numbers and really cut down on the strikeouts. they'll get their numbers up as long as cora keeps sending price out on the mound here or in fenway. especially sanchez. gary swings against price like he owes him money. he's got an insane almost .500 hr rate against him. I want nothing more than for ny to win it all this year and be great again. but I truly believe they would have a much better shot with girardi, not cause boone is new to managing, joe just knows what makes the team tick and brings the best out of them. boone seems too much like a kindergarten teacher where 'it's ok, you tried your best, there's always tomorrow' whereas girardi is like a hard-ass high school teacher that expects a certain level of performance and will get on your ass if you're not playing up to what he thinks you're capable of. as a player, what would inspire you to play harder?
not even close. They were definitely the best team in 2009 but they're not even close to the best Yankee team. 1998 Yankees straight up dominated everyone and probably would've swept the 09 Yankees
Remember watching the game with my mom who had alzheimer's. She forgot many things.. But she never forgot her team.. The New york yankees.. Watching this brings back the pain but also the happiness of her enjoyment of the world 🌎 series. R. i.. p
I remember my dad let me stay up late that night so I could witness history. It was the first time I saw the Yankees win. Can't believe it's been an entire decade now.

Watching this 9 years later in 2018. I hope Judge, Stanton, Didi and Sanchez can add another one in 2018 like ARod, Rivera, Jeter, Posada and Pettitte did before them.
2009 was the greatest year in sports history. The Yankees won their 27th ring, the Lakers led by Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol won their 15th ring, the Steelers won their 6th Super Bowl against the Cardinals, and the Penguins won the Stanley Cup. I was only 7 back then, about to turn 8, every victory was surely sweet.
This definitely feels like the year!! We have a strong closer in Chapman just like the Rivera days. A rod faced the same pressure that Stanton does today. I just hope we get Encarnacion and Sanchez back in October
As a die hard Yankee fan, I took this team for granted. I was so happy we won but feel like I didn't appreciate how great and fun this team was. So many walk off wins that season and a championship to end it all. And now it'll be 8 years this season. Let's get back to the playoffs. LETS GO YANKS
Tony Knickerbockers I like the young talent the team has in the pipeline. If all things start clicking at the same time it could be special. Of course they still need pitching.
Because it was a cheap championship, the Yankees have been trying to buy titles (again) ever since they lost to arizona in 2001. Steinbrenner stopped letting Torre or his staff have any input in front office decisions after that, Steinbrenner and his “baseball people” were back in control and went back to trying to buy random guys to plug holes in the roster, this started down the Cold dark path to torre’s firing and the tearing down of Yankee stadium. Just replace the names, guys like Danny tartabull and Dave Winfield, replace them with names like Gary Sheffield and Jason Giambi, the late 90s yankees had veteran future HOF guys like that as backups not starters. Opening the garish new corporate stadium with a purchased title did little to amend the sacrilege
@@TheLocalLt a bit harsh on your part When Boston spent 260 mill and won a championship where was your criticism When Dodgers do the same and up to 280mill and win only once during short Co vid yr... Where s ur criticism..
I was so happy when we won that year. It was super exciting because we hadn't own since the 2000 subway World Series. I remember I ran and got my yankees World Series hat and championship shirt . It was a sweet win and I enjoy watching this every time. Let's go yankees !
Robert Osso they pitched terribly in that series, game 1 and 2 Mussina and Lieber were good, game 3 Kevin brown bombed out after 2 innings but the Yankees won anyway, game 4 El Duque was good but Rivera blew the save before Ortiz walked it off, game 5 Mussina was not good enough but Pedro was just as bad, then A-Rod couldn’t hit a sac fly to make it a 3 run game, and Fenway’s right field corner robbed tony Clark of a potential series winning hit before Ortiz walked it off again, game 6 Lieber was outpitched badly by a hobbled curt schilling fresh out of the operating room, he gave up a 3 run homer to the Red Sox worst hitter and worked in and out of trouble in most of his innings, and game 7 well after he broke his hand punching a column earlier in September Kevin brown’s teammates were fully convinced he was a headcase and the Yankees bullpen catcher was later quoted as saying many of the Yankees were telling each other “we’re fucked” during pregame warmups in game 7 because they both detested brown and also knew he had no stuff left in the tank.
This was the greatest birthday gift I remember watching this game when the Yankees won their 27th world championship on my 13th birthday. Proud to be a Yankees fan
After this game, Pedro never hurled another pitch in the major leagues again. After this game, that Phillies team was slowly gutted as the years progressed after, they haven't competed since 2011. The Yankees were slowly in rebuilding mode also after the Core 4 retired. Our Baby Bombers now are the key to our future after the Jeter era. The Yankees rebuilt way faster and had to since their in a much bigger market team as opposed to Philly. I remember being in Yankee Tavern the night they won. It was pandemonium in the streets when the last out was recorded when i went outside and of course, inside the bar. To think also, Obama was only in office less than a year when this happened. Plus a guy was standing on the bar table waiting for the last out to be recorded to douse us with beer and champagne. Also a group had a banner that said "In NY, we smoke Phillies" with a Philly blunt on the banner. Good times.
Yeah the following year they picked up Holliday, Oswalt, and Cliff Lee try to run it back losing in the NLCS to the underdog Giants and then 2011 losing to the cardinals in which the final play their franchise guy howard ended up having career shortened injury in the final play and that was the last time they made the playoff until 2022
Look at the flashes in the stadium from actual cameras..no one holding up thier phones to record the game just 50,000 people enjoying the game and the moment. I miss this.
2009 was magical, New Stadium, only team with over 20 player with over 20 homeruns, they were simply the best, Miss that Squad. I remember Molina (Catcher)was the last player hitting the last home run in the old Yankee statiumd and ironically Posada (Catcher)was the firs guy hitting home in the new ballpark. Miss that Squad. :(
We have sonny gray, luis severino is pitching like an ace, sabathia has bounced back, tanaka is beggining to figure out, and montgomery has been solid all year. Plus Yankees have probably the best pen in baseball now.... So how do the yanks have little pitching??? lmao
The Yankees are also the only MLB Team Franchise to have 5 World Series Sweep Wins in 7 Appearances from 1927 to 1939. The Sweeps were against the Pirates 1927, Cardinals 1928, Cubs 1932, Cubs 1938 and Reds 1939. The Yankees are also the only MLB Team Franchise to have 8 World Series Sweep Wins which occurred from 1927 to 1999 (1927, 1928, 1932, 1938, 1939, 1950, 1998, 1999). 8 World Series Sweeps in 71 Non-Strike MLB Years.
The Yankees did a mistake not giving matsui a contract he is one of the best post season hitters of all time in 09 he hit 274 28 hr and 90 rbi and all those numbers came off clutch moments, unlike arod who hits homeruns only when the Yankees are winning big or loosing big
2009 year and season of Championship winning teams: Steelers, Lakers, Penguins, FC Barcelona, Yankees and Alabama! Talk about the powerhouse teams right there! 🏆💪
Johnny Damon: part of the 2004 Boston Red Sox team that broke a 86-year drought and part of the 2009 New York Yankees team that overcame the 2004 ALCS collapse with a title.
Ikr YES should've broadcasted the World Series like they did during the late 90's dynasty. I would've loved to hear Michael Kay's "THERE IT GOOOOOOOES, SEE YA!!" over Joe Buck's "home run, (insert player here)". Neutral commentating ruins the experience for extreme fans of the two teams.
I can't wait til the lineup of Gary Sanchez Greg Bird Gleyber Torres Didi Gregorius Miguel Andujar/Manny Machado Aaron Judge Clint Frazier Blake Rutherford {Enter DH here} A pitching staff of Shoshei Otani Gerrit Cole Luis Severino James Kaprielian Justus Sheffeld A bullpen of Aroldis Chapman Dellin Betances {enter 3rd closer option here} Adam Warren Chance Adams Chad Green Domingo German Albert Abreu And 4 others Win the 28th World Series and hopefully 4 more
i live around yankee stadium and all i remember that night was putting on my pj’s and coat and heading out to 161 to celebrate in front of yankee stadium. Great memory :)
Hard to believe the year 2009 was last time the NY Yankees won the World Series. It's crazy seeing M Rivera running from teammates and celebrating on feild. It's crazy as Yankees fan
This was such vindication. Winning in the first year in the new stadium. Taking the team of the decade title fro the red sox. Doing it with a new A-Rod after he'd admitted to juicing in Texas and was under a microscope, but still performed as clutch as ca be. The way they walked off in game 2 of the first 2 series, the way Andy and Mo pitched all 3 clinching games. The way they came back in game 3 in Philly and A-Rod came through against Lidge with 2 out in the 9th in game 4, and the way it ended in the new cathedral with a game where we didn't have to sweat cuz Matsui owns Pedro. The fact it was Pettitte vs. Pedro (the ultimate good vs. evil). The fact it was the last game pedro pitched. The fact mo closed it. The lap. The bragging rights for winning since the roided travesty of 04. But most of all the culmination of what felt like a perfect year and postseason. 7 guys hit 20 homers. The most complete yankee team maybe even more than 1998. What an amazing win at the stadium, thank you Hideki Matsui. Here's to number 28.
As a lifelong Yankee fan this team was so fucking stacked holy Christ jeter arod swisher Damon Gardner posada sebathia cano Pettite mark tex Mariano what a squad
As a Phillies fan this one stung less than usual because they had just won the World Series the previous year. Honestly I was impressed they made it as far as they did given that two of their most reliable pieces from the 2008 team - Cole Hamels & Brad Lidge - were mediocre and awful, respectively, in '09. That said this series was still a bit frustrating. The Yankees had a great team, no doubt. 103-wins makes you a powerhouse. But I think of the opportunities in Game's 3 and 4 the Phillies let slip away. The aforementioned Hamels & Lidge, heroes the previous year, really let the team down in the '09 WS. Cole was spotted a three-run lead that he couldn't hold onto in Game 3. Lidge on the other hand had two outs and nobody on in the top of the ninth in Game 4, after the Phillies had fought back to tie the game up, and managed to give up two crucial runs. If the Phillies win either Game 3 or Game 4 I think there is a good chance they would have repeated...Oh well :-(
The Yankees we're just fustrated and hungry waiting 9 years for a chip even if the Phillies played they beat baseball the Yanks would of still came out on top by the grit of they teeth, sabathia is the real deal
I was sophomore in college and living in the Bronx back then and I can't believe that was almost 10 years ago. 3 years later my NY Giants would win the SB. I miss NY.
Well I hope the New York Yankees wins the the world championship tittle for this year Major League Baseball (MLB). If they do New York City will be victorious and all of the retail sports stores will be very packed including Modell's.
thats not really true. my phils almost swept the yanks in regular season that yr, so they WERE beatable. Unfortunately, our manager at the time made the dumbest decision ever to not hv cliff pitch on 3 day rest.
doesn't mean anything.. you didnt win... anybody can make it to the world series.. what makes it special is when you win. Us not making it doesn't bother us because we've made it most of the time and won it. so that comeback is over played. mets are no better than the yanks in this case. Now if you wanna compare head to head yankees vs mets in 2015, we own you guys.
dude, we won 2 out of 3 in the bronx and 2 out of 3 in queens.. we won the season series against you guys. see this is why i cheer when the mets lose cause then met fans get so excited and try to debate with yankee fans about who's better lol its ridiculous.
Andy Petitte's stare from the pitcher's mound. He means business. And don't get me started with Mo. When Mo is summoned from the bullpen, it's over. I miss my core four. I miss the dynasty. Yanks will always be my team. I hope this year's bombers can get it together in time for October. (If not, then at least before I get too old to know what baseball is lol.)
2017 Yankees gonna get it done this year! Aaron Judge Gary Sanchez Didi Gregorious Aaron Hicks Brett Gardner Matt Holliday Dellin Betances Aroldis Chapman Luis Severino Greg Bird Stalin Castro Jacoby Ellsbury Chase Headley Ronald Torreyes I mean come on this is a Great team and whoever disagrees can fight me
I'm not sure if we can get done this year, I mean it's been a hell of a season, we were supposed to be rebuilding, but this team has surprised many, we will be a threat in many years to come.
I was 16 and a Junior in High School I watched every game of every series from the ALDS to the ALCS, and the World Series. It's crazy how I watched the Phillies win a World Series in 2008 a year later I watch the Yankees beat the defending champs a year later.
@@ccjjpp1966 must admit tho at least for the 2020 Alcs I was hoping that the rays beat the astros cause after that heartbreak in 2019 with Jose and his buzzer man I wanted to see the astros lose every game obviously Yankees fan
