well Al, im glad you brought up Russian gymnastics fashion bc i was just about to compliment the orange, fuchsia, purple leo worn by russia's katarina. my favorite one
I love how with how theyve changed the scoring system *SO MUCH!* Over the years with Gymnastics- people keep saying things like "We will never again see a perfect 10! We will never again see a score in the 17s! ....2018- a 15.1 is a 'STRATOSPHERIC score!' " lol. Wow. I WISH THINGS has progressed THIS direction in MY sport (Equestrian Triathlon/Aka 3 Day Eventing) not ONLY have they actually changed how they score the 1st of the three phases- Dressage- so that score are on average anywhere from 10-15 full points BETTER/LOWER *lower, in Eventing, is better! Cuz jump penalties and time faults for going to slow are ADDITIONAL points added to your score and you DONT want those- you want a low score!) But they not only score dressage differently by about 10-15pts now but they also accept half-point scores now too- on the scale of 0-10, it used to only be WHOLE numbers- but, now they accept "6.5, 7.5, 8.5s" etc. And those half points definitely ADD UP A LOT!) So, the scores I USED to win a 40 horse/rider OPEN division by nearly 3 full points with a flat 30.0 after all three phases are complete.... Today?! A score of 30 would be LUCKY to finish in the top 5 or even the top 10/in the ribbons at ALL!!! Nowdays in a show with 300-400 horse& rider entries, there will probably be nearly 10 scores in the TEENS, and at LEAST 5-8++ in each division in the low to high 20s... 30s don't even REGISTER as being "decent" anymore lol. So when I talk about WINNING area Championships or coming in Reserve Champion NATIONALLY in only my 2nd season of competing with average final scores in the low to mid 30s... Ugh. It sounds HORRIBLE compared to the scores people get and on the ridiculously expensive, fancy, 6-figure$$$ imported European Warmbloods in order to compete and even have ANY hope of finishing in the ribbons even at the LOWEST levels!!! I HATE all the score changes in sports! It makes it virtually impossible to really "compare" athletes & their scores from previous generations to those of today!!! I understand the need to change a lot of times.... But, it doesn't mean I gotta LIKE it!!!!
That’s because that was one of the few times she actually HIT that routine, including the dismount. Otherwise she was the queen of inconsistency unfortunately. I knew by 2010 that her chances of the Olympic team were not very good. The injury really finished the job.
What annoys me about the American commentators the most is they tend to focus SOLELY on the negative. Ana Porgras does a beautiful bar routine with an amazing 1 1/2 turn into a release move and throughout the whole routine they just talked about how the Romanians are historically weak on bars and how she missed her handstand on the low bar. They make it hard to just enjoy the routine or root for the gymnast to finish strong if they have a mistake.
It’s a shame Semenova didn’t make it to 2012, she could have easily medaled on bars. Gold? Probably not with Mustafina but silver or bronze? Possibly for sure. Same with Anna Porgras- she could have medaled on beam in London.
Women's Artistic Gymnastics World Championships 2009- via cameras & photography circa: 1971...? Seriously, HOW can a video from the 21st century look so... Cheap 90s soap opera?! I don't even have words. Bleeeck!
I never liked the style of Bross. There was always so much hype around her before she got injured. I feel like people respected her difficulty back then, but didn’t care about her form. When now we have someone like Skinner who has a ton of difficulty, but people just attack her execution.
Much of Rebecca Bross' form was NOT her fault. She was VERY knock kneed, which definitely affected her form. It also absolutely contributed to her horrible knee injuries.
QPHashSS77 that’s a bit harsh. Nothing I said was at all offensive. I said that “I didn’t like her style” and that “no one cared about her form” which I still feel is accurate regardless of her knees. Gymnastics is a sport built on critiques and different styles. Just like everyone attacks Skinner. Even though I like her gymnastics. I didn’t go calling anyone a “coward” for having an opinion on Skinners gymnastics now did I? Take a seat.
@biggie TALLS i would have to examine more closely to see the form issues others see. I just did not enjoy watching her style. I did not watch gymnastics much in her day though, so watching back now, I have to remind myself of what was the highest level of tumbling being done. It is a shame what happened with her injuries though. I agree with you about Skinner. Her practice videos show some improvement, but it will be interesting to see if those show up in performance.
I think anyone can see quite clearly that Tsurumi and Dufournet, although being obviously cleaner on bars and beam than the American duo, were actually marked lower on the E-score which is very significant as, starting precisely with these championships, there have been two separate systems of evaluation of execution (for Americans and for the rest of the world) at every major gymnastic meet, as if there were two separate E-panels of judges.
Lol- I looked at this comment & just kept chuckling I thought you said her "DIY" routine- I was like "OHHH, that was one shady Buuuurn!" But you said "DTY"... I don't know why but I thought calling anything out of anyone's routine a "DIY" version- sounded like such a hilarious little dig! I might just go with it...
@@cocobeebe Yeah because that was when Simone Biles was not on the national team since she was on the 2018 Worlds and Bridget Sloan has retired along time ago so yeah it was such an odd mistake for anyone that's a huge fan of the sport especially Tim Daggett😂
