Hey man, I've been following your videos for well over a year now, and I've always enjoyed your content, especially the Samba project. You've done projects with batteries that I've had ideas about doing. I don't really know where to start looking for certain things that may be around me (Seattle/Everett area in Washington State). I live in an apartment at the moment, but I'd eventually like to build a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) or modify the current one I have for extra capacity. But I worry about balancing the cells as well as a lot of other things. Watching the end of this video was emotional for me. Here you are, just a regular guy like myself and so many others and you were able to help others out in need. Thank you for EVERYTHING that you do brother. Thank you. I want to add more, but I don't want to "word/thought vomit" on your channel. Thank you again!

If you want a more accurate temperature reading through the IR camera, make sure the object you want to measure is a dull (non-reflective) black color. Otherwise it can reflect the IR and actually give you majorly false readings.

Is it only unusable power because it can no longer run the inverter? If you had a solar system set up in your home, not everything would need to be connected through an inverter and can be pulled straight from the batteries ( lights, USB outlets, and such.) With that in mind, would that change the unusable power percentage?

Your milliohms seem to be way off. When you mentioned a lipo is 10 miliohms, that is for the whole pack, not per cell. I have 1800mha lipo cells under 3milliohm, 5x less capacity, and 10x less resistance, seems like these spim08hp cells are junk at higher loads?

I believe you can use them as 12V for car - you just need powerful buck converter with few of 200A mosfets.

I was considering LiFepo4 cells for a 24 volt inverter . it seems to be the same as lipo/liion in 12 v systems. with 8-9cells. you either can't fully charge. or discharge. you loose capacity either on top or down low! if I were to go with 9 cells and charge to 29.5v or so. my inverter goes to 30v I think. I'd like to go 7s liion. 6s the voltage is to low. a lot of the EV and hybrid packs are 6s. great video. I also considered these cells. but when you add up as many as I need the price is a little high. if I was needing power for my e bike or something . I'd definitely go with them thanks.....

I hate to have to ask you but this seller is not responding to me. I am going to be making 10 16.8 volt banks with 40 of these. What balance boards would you suggest for an alternator charging the 10 banks at 200 to 300 amps. And what voltage?

Greetings Jehu or anyone else who can answer. Is there a major disadvantage of using a 4s setup with a "buck converter" or some other application to step down the output voltage to get better utilization of the power in the cells when using a 12v application? For some of my projects I am considering this with 18650s as well.

Those inverter manufacturers. Low voltage cutoff is set too low. I understand some power on sag but inverter off at 10 volts will kill/greatly reduce the lead 12 volt battery.

The C rating does not have to be continuous. In RC many is burst for 2-10 seconds only :) But I have not checked above cells so that might be max. Your short though seem to give rather high max

+Jehu+ I am in need of a high voltage (100v+) high output (+200a) and decent range (+30Ah) for my electric bike build. And was thinking of using these in a 4p-30s configuration or maybe to start a 2p-30s configuration. Do you think these would work well in my application? Not sure if you are familiar with electric bike components but I am using a QS205 50H 3T motor and a power velocity 24fet 150v 15kw capable controller. BTW love the samba! I used to have a '76 poptop camper that my father and uncles beefed up with a Porsche 911 engine that was liquid cooled with the radiator above the cockpit and pipes down the length on both sides to feed the coolant ;) I miss that bus! Yours though! Forget about it! The best build ever! VW should pay you for just creating it! Thnx

jehugarcia It is a heavy machine I have. It resembles a motorcycle in many ways but it has the ability to petal for legality purposes. You are correct that 60 cells is pretty heavy, (40Lbs you think?) I would probably play around with the configuration to see what will work in my bike. I'm very limited in funds and have sacrificed meals in order to be able to buy parts for my build. I've got it finished and yesterday I attempted to ride it to work and my battery failed. I'm using harvested 18650's of mixed chemistry and capacity and they just won't do. These cells you've tested in this video can get me the power needed, desired rather, and I can hopefully save the $ to buy them before tom runs out. I really wanted those sanyo 2000mAh 20A cells he had but those went super fast and I couldn't save enough in time :( so based on your knowledge of EV could I use these in my bike? And would it be worth it for me to spend my $ on these rather than going a different route? Thanks for your time and replying so quickly I appreciate it.

Brandon G I finished the build about a month ago and it works pretty good just recently I got a BMS from China so I'll be incorporating that into my build and doing away with voltmeters the cheap ones that I bought on eBay. I have a 14 s configuration and my bike has a 1500 watt Hub motor on the rear wheel. With the 14s 2p configuration I guess it's 16 amp hours capacity I haven't realized a huge amount of range but my but usually sore enough and then I want to get off before the alarms go off bummed that I didn't get the cheap price they have for the batteries now 20 for a hundred bucks that about half of what I paid . I made the series connections with small nut and bolt I tried using a stapler not recommended also solder did not work well. I used little rubber anti-vibration pads made by 3M they were very good at keeping the space between the end of the cells .

jehugarcia could it be the pwm in the inverter carrier wave. and the sine wave. crosses with the sample rate of the meter? along with the load. discharging the caps and recharging? all working out to something like a harmonic vibration in a gas engine . this is just happening in the electric current? or just the output regulation. trying g to keep the voltage stable. ?

With the IR on these already so high versus New factory spec, or similar C rated Lipo, I'd say these cells are truly 'burnt' for their original high amp draw applications and would not work that well on high amp draw LEV Ebike use I was contemplating using them for. That's where the lifepo4 cells he had are a better idea than these (even if they too cannot deliver 25c) as they have 5x the lifecycles of lipo so even used, they're still fit for their original purpose. These cells can probably be used to deliver "decent" power say 5c - 8c? 60a max? What do you guys think? Before heat probs and too large a voltage drop happens and obv for their rated capacity in say a low amp draw powerwall, but I have 3 repurposed 8s LG Lipo EV modules here and the cells IR range from 2-4 mOhm (cold @80% charge,) tested on an Icharger 3010b, those would be the IR figures I'd want if I was spending my money on Lipo.

Anyone figure out a good mechanical connection for these cells? I'm working on a riding mower conversion and need a 48V battery that can take 200A continuous and 400A burst. These cells seem to fit the bill for a great price but I've not seen anything on a simple mechanical way to connect. 18650's sure. That's simple. The tabs on these batteries confound me. Are there clips out there, or would I be using nuts, bolts, and some metal spacers to form connections?

spim08hp flat cells from battery hookups. danger danger. they don't tell you. many of these cells have problems inside. there is current flow between the foil covering insulation layer and the terminals of many cells. measure the terminal to edge voltage along the seams. i'v gotten 3.9 volts off the foil wrapper. the cells will puff and be destroyed from self discharge. many of my 60 plus cells i bought do not have this problem. all the 30 % that puffed without ever being under load have the short to the foil. warning the edges of the cell packs carry current. not safe for marine environment at all. i only made 12 volt packs at higher voltages there will be bigger sparks from foil to terminals. danger if they self discharge they will puff and oh they say you didn't do good assembly. they don't say anything about do not touch electrically hot foil next to terminals. if a buss bar touches the edge of the foil it will short out the whole battery.

There should be a Zener diode or a potential divider somewhere in simpler inverter designs to provide the low voltage reference. I'd start by looking there.

dc to dc step up or down voltage regulator, thoug dont know if they have someting for like 200 amps range, google, that could work for 12v aplications, because if u use these in 4s u get rougly 16v, too much for inverter of that has operating range of 10.5v to 15.5 v(12v systems like car, rv, semi truck)

I don’t understand the 200A side of things, could you explain, please? If I have a 40A Speed Controller could these batteries be used to power it? How does someone regulate the amperage? Or you don’t have too? You mentioned the capacity multiplied by the C Rating to calculate 200A. What does it all mean?

I bought 60 of these out of the 60 10 of them puffed up before they ever saw a load. All but 10 of them have voltage leakage to the foil packaging which means that the internal insulation has degraded. On some of these cells the aluminum foil of the packaging has full cell voltage at the edges and will short out on any piece of metal they touch even if you're just working on one end of the battery you can short out to the foil. Danger these things can burn your house down. I am returning all of them that I bought from Battery hookups they are sending us rejects from China! This may be similar to the Japanese using balloon-borne bombs to set random fires all over United States. This could be a weapon of mass destruction spread out all over the country. Watch out my fellow Americans

I have gotten in contact with the company. And they have made good on their warranty. I have no trouble with battery hookups they were not aware of the problem. Now they are stuck with bad batteries they warrantied them and paid shipping to take them back. Very nice people at battery hookups

shouldn`t you be using 4s for 12v test and charge to 14.6 ? because a normal sla battery charges at 14.6 v even though they are classed as 12 v

I have just been looking at the 20000mah version for £10 more, i have 18ah 13s li-ion and 13ah 13s li-ion i have built myself am thinking of putting on ebay as they was built before i got a spot welder so are soldered to fund a pair. what is the top speed dropping down to 12s ? i get 34mph top speed on flat in my 1000w motor with 13s connected so was thinking of getting the 6s and 2x 4s 20000mah (always want a bit more)

I'm commissioning a system in California of 2,544 LiFePO-4 batteries, 1766wH / 138aH each, in series strings of 53...about ~720v per pack. We literally have 4.5 mWh of battery. ... While phosphate chemistry doesn't "burn" quite like an oxide chemistry, I promise you these things are dangerous enough to pop a 2/0 1000v rated cable like a fuse. With 8 units I can easily motor-up and trip a 2.5mW generator.

For the battery to do 350 amps at 3.7 volts, the internal resistance of the *whole circuit* would have to be around 11 milliohms. No way these cells are anywhere near 30 milliohms.

I wish I watched this first. I droppped way too much on these cells for my e skate. I am not liking my first charge numbers. Well below specs in the eBay ad.... in the end new hobbyking batteries would of been a better choice. Same cost and less work. Oh well lesson learned.

what charge numbers are you referring too? where they mostly under 8000mah or not providing its amp output? how many did you try?
