I use the CORBIN HCT-1 Hand Cannelure Tool to modify the XTP for enhanced terminal performance.
Bare, Approx 1200fps, 185gr, Min .59", Max .62"
4 layer denim, 1146fps, 195gr, Min .62", Max .64"
"Bone", 1092fps, 192gr, Min .53", Max .64", 4 jugs penetrated (20")
"Bone", 1111fps, 178gr, Min .52", Max .65", 3 jugs penetrated (15")
"Bone", 1201fps, 182gr, Min .42", Max .61", 4 jugs penetrated (20")

Very very interesting. Good vid! Hornady should reintroduce their 200 grain 10mm XTP and increase the velocity to about 1200 fps.

They need to update the XTP line and lock the jacket to the core. They do offer the 200gr loading as a factory option in the custom line, as do many other boutique manufacturers. However, they all suffer from the previous tests issues. It should not be too difficult to update, but I dont know if it matters to them since they sell a lot of xtp products as is. For me, Ill just do the mod myself, it really does make this bullet shine for 10mm.

@@johnwesley1660 I can tell you hornady increased velocity of factory 10mm xtp, 155gr goes up to 1410fps and 180gr goes up to 1275fps now

Hornady puts a cannelure on their XTP revolver bullets to keep bullets from walking out during recoil. Maybe we should petition them to start offering a cannelure on some of their automatic pistol bullets too?

Robert Boren I would certainly welcome the upgrade..the critical duty has an interlock band, so that's certainly something that could be done..

10.5 to 10.6 is close to max. I backed off to 10.0 with BD and 200 XTP

I gave done similar tests with the 200 gr XTP in 44 mag with the same results, jacket separation. In the 180 44 mag, perfect mushroom to past the base, no separation. Must be something with that 200 grain size for some reason. Excellent video

Off the shelf what round would you use for deer out of a glock 40mos with a kkm barrel. Hunting in MO we need an expanding bullet. I was looking for 200 xtp by underwood for months, been sold out. Appreciate your time.

G40 should get good velocity with most of the typical manufacturers loads. Federal and Winchester both have offerings along with Hornadys XTP loadings. You don’t really need anything too special…most of the 180/200 grain offerings will work…. Accuracy is most important..

Just curious why there is so much fuss over that's separation when the core continues on. Hornaday uses a harder lead than others

Use Lee Factory Crimp Die to apply the crimp.

The “crimp” will not be deep enough, and it will be too high on the bullet…expansion will peel back what little “crimp” there is. I also find crimping too hard can ruin accuracy.
