Transmission level check has to be performed with engine running. Also I read pan bolts are to be tightened to 6NM then turned 180 degrees. These are stretch bolts, therefore, they are not to be reused again.
I was thinking that very thing - I've done VW's with DSG trans and it was with the engine running and also moving the shift lever through the gears as part of the warm-up process.
Yes it sounds like the engine was not running when he disconnected hose. Then the transmission is not running and in park, a lot of fluid "dumps" back into the pan, so if that's the case, he drained way more fluid than he should have and the trans will be running low on fluid
Excellent video. Watching real life mechanic’s diy job. That is just like my setup. No room to move. Oil stains on the floor. Wife asking “when will you be ready to eat dinner?” DIY on this job will save $800 minus parts cost which pays for all my neat tools.
Get yourself a set of QuickJacks. Nice if your doing a lot of your own work. Will lift the car w/o effort and very safe to work under the vehicle. 27" lifting height means you can use a creeper instead of laying on the floor.
That job cost me $797.57 dollars exactly from my Scottsdale Rd, AZ Certified Benz n Beemer. $485 was just in labor. I was going to do it but I didn't have the scan tool, I need that!
I did my 09 E350 pretty much as you did. At 45c ( 113F) the fluid is warm. Just be careful of the hot exhaust. It took about 20 mins at idle to reach the temperature.. The oem flter from Mercedes ( filtran? material filters down to 50 microns whereas the Febi ( maybe that is the one in your kit? ) filter down to 80 microns. Will that make much of a difference? IDK. Cycling through the gears prior to draining the excess is a good thing also. Good job!!!
Yes it will. The filter's job is to both keep contaminants out of the trans as well as maintain a consistent volumetric flow rate. When you go higher in microns your flow rate also drops. Lots of people obsess over microns thinking higher is better. NO. Keep the OEM spec for lasting performance
@@supersabrosinho I believe you have that backwards - the higher the number, the more porous, meaning less restrictive. I think that was his concern - less trapped contaminates, but higher flow rate.
Not sure if I would go for it myself. Because sometimes it is not enough just to change the oil, filter, and check the level at 45C. Sometimes Siemens/Continental TCU electronics do not like change of oil and then TCU needs to be reprogrammed. Re-marry. That is another level. In fact, my opinion is that not many mechanics in Australia are real experts in G7 722.9 transmission service and as a result, you end up with problems they create after transmission service. So, I fully understand your reasoning behind "I will o it myself". My advice to all MB owners with G7 722.9 is "not be afraid to ask who will work on your transmission and what are their CV. o not assume that because it is MB Service center they know."
I agree somewhat with your analysis. Changing the fluid (about 50% of it in these services) will result in a change in viscosity because less metal suspended in fluid…..this might affect the how the tcu responds Bc it has adapted over time to condition of fluid. So doing this service every 40-50k makes the difference in fluid characteristics less variant. Doing this once at 120k will surely give you problems. I always do a transmission reset (with gas pedal ) after And then it takes like 1000 miles or so to re adapt to new conditions …. Thanks for your comment👌🏻👍
@@SVXistance Great comment. I have agreed for MB to do Transmission service at 75000km and while TCU has managed well the ISM gear shifting box did not like it. That was on S350 w221.
Great information and video. +8 for doing it on the floor. It's much easier to do on a lift. All this extra effort to check fluid level because a dipstick is too old fashioned. UGH!
To clarify. Mercedes FE and some aftermarket FE fluids are blue, some aftermarket FE fluids are also red. IN any event the A89 transmission requires the FE fluid.
This is a good video, and I would love to do the same thing to my vehicle. I have a 2010 S 600 and V12 that I have been trying to do that to, but not able to because a hardshift. I believe it's my transmission, from 1st to 2nd gear it has a really hard pull that is really uncomfortable and don't wanna do that if there is something wrong with my transmission, but nobody can tell me or give me an answer for that, but once the car heats up it drive smooth. AT Cold star it shift really hard... Sorry that this doesn't make too much sense, I don't know how to explain it.
Is a Mercedes Benz A001989240310 multi grade oil good for transmission oil change for a e550 2012 4matic sedan ? I changed my oil and the car won't move again forward or backwards after shifting gears successfully. I hope I have not damaged my transmission if at all replacing the oil completely may be able to correct/reverse anything wrong with the car ? Please advise 🙏 urgently
That’s the idea you over fill by 1-2 quarts which dilutes old fluid (you really only replacing 1/2 of fluid) and the excess comes out till dripping which is right level at temp👍
(So well worth it to save no money and waste half a day of my life. [Tools, setup and I'm sure you didn't use proper disposal procedures] This is for hobbiests)
To each his own… I get personal satisfaction doing my own work. Multiply that by 4 cars I do save a bit of money. I dispose of all my used oil and trans fluid at my local oriellys FYI 👌🏻👍
@@WPHMP I agree but, scan tool, torque wrenches, tubes, jacks, fluids, disposal, containers, time and it being Mercedes (I have a 2014 E350 4Matic Sport and a 2019 AMG E63S) I can see oil changes.....maybe.....and not on an AMG. Not, "To each their own". It is more costly..plus the ultra-consumerism. I live in the highest possible prices Metcedes service area in the USA and still 2 oil changes [A+B] plus transmission fluid change costed 800 dollars at one of the most expensive dealerships with a package. It's oral about 1800 dollars for that. 722 dollars plus tax and 325 dollars plus tax, just for the oil changes. . I did receive 60 dollar OEM Mercedes windshield wipers as well. Let alone the normal transmissions fluid change cost. I won't expand on how much that costs. Don't take all replies as an insult. It's just reality. I think it's interesting to DIY and do much myself. Like LED lights, lips, diffusers, interior updates, 2020 GPS updates, cameras, steering wheel and etc. Anything that a licensed Mercedes mechanic handles, I don't touch. I really clicked on this to see if AT-205 reseal could be added to the transmission fluid as a safety precaution. I usually add it to the oil and struts on my older Mercedes. Personal = Hobby. We both know all Mercedes are money pits and the newer ones are manufactured with plastic over computerized crap. -Enjoy the day. *I wouldn't step into an O'Reilly's*
@@UhhhhhnooOOo00oO You're a bit too judgey to do your own maintenance. "Ultra-consumerism", really?!? Yes, you should go to the dealership to have yours done. If you think for a second a MB dealership doesn't mess things up and not tell you, like stripping out a bolt, you'd be wrong. Doing it yourself ensures you know how your car was maintained without having to "trust" a dealership with a profit motive. Stop wasting your time viewing diy videos on YT.
@Steve M You made 6 comments already on this channel. How about you don't waste your time replying with paragraphs to comments not for you? Rhetorical These videos are for views and money. They aren't to help the average meat bag like you to save money or for your benefit. YT DIY clowns, don't include time, workspace, years of knowledge and one screwing up their vehicle. The last thing I'd do is have a dealership work on my car but, if you own a Mercedes, and I own 4 now, because I'm a wasteful jackass, but you go in with the knowledge that you can afford to own them. You save money on a Pontiac or an Oldsmobile...even a Toyota. You know that Mercedes purposefully designs shit that should be done at the dealership. Nobody tells you about the 100K in a garage they put in or 3 days of labor or risking your life under an over 2 ton vehicle. All things being equal, they aren't, just the time isn't worth it to me. This for hobbiest that are bored with nothing else to do. Go put together a puzzle or dig a tomato garden. Thats all this BS is. I watch it on occasion in the shitter to pass the time and see if it is worth it. It isn't. I can do my own maintenance and have done it. Being judgey is your medical diagnosis? Because you put in the years of medical school and became a social media psychiatrist? No you didn't and nobody with any degree in medicine should ever come to a comment conclusion. I get it. You wanted your two cents in. Meanwhile you took 3 dollars amd wasted your time. Thank you for filling in the 3 minutes I wanted to waste. You entertained me. That's my diagnosis. Maybe I should assume, like you through a reply, that it is paramount for you to stick your nose in other people's crap. You social media clowns like to use the word "Karen" or "no cap" but, I'm assuming, like you, that you are an older adult child that enjoys reading comments. Make your own. Don't reply to mine from 7 plus months ago. In fact my Oil change is coming up. I won't be doing it myself. Transmission plus 3 oil changes for 1K. Over me doing that crap, well worth it. I get to trash one of the new horrible 4 cylinder turbo loners as well. Those 60 dollar New Mercedes wipers will be unnecessary but, they better not forget them. I think it's a Service B. I couldn't care less which letter, because I'll be at a restaurant whilst some paid moron does it for me. He went to mechanic school. I didn't have to waste that time.
hello I have a problem with this automatic gearbox, practically when the gearbox temperature is below 30 degrees, when I shift from D to R I hear a "taac" noise. In the heat, however, nothing happens what could it be?
Hello sir, I recently bought a W212 and I want to change the trans fluid. Can you tell me what pump did you use to transfer the fluid into the car. I have all my parts but I do not know what pump I should buy. (Please share the link, or name of the pump) Thanks! ❤

@@SVXistance no no you did it correctly I just didn’t hear 👂 the engine running in the video you did 👍 I did mines about 8000 miles ago How does yours shift mines shifts like 💩 when cold
shifts ok but weird thing after fluid change my 4-5 shift is hard !! 🙈I should have removed valve body and checked solenoids for debris on their screens ….I might redo and replace solenoids they are like 40 buks each 😂
@@SVXistance Thanks. But how did you get 4 nm. when the lowest setting on Tekton is 10 ft lbs * 1.356 = 13.5582 Nm? Did you over-torqued bolts by 3 times + 180?
@@SVXistance Got it. Those bolts snaps around 15 nm. so, I was puzzled how come you didn't snapped all six bolts off lol Anyway, what is the brand or model of the correct torque wrench? I'm planning to change tranny fluid 722.9 for the first time at 73k (double overdue) but all the low torque wrenches on amazon have not that good reviews, and I don't want to pay $200 for like 2 uses.

He literally drained the whole fluid . The level should be checked with the engine running. That transmission is probably shot within 5 minutes of driving.
they say 60-100k for automatic transmissions but sooner is probably better of that recommendation is anything like the 10k they say for oil changes (lie, change your oil every 3500-5000 miles)
Pretty damn sure your vehicle should have been running when you were checking the fluid level & letting excess fluid drain out…. To me it Seems like you drained our way to much
This is wrong, the engine should run when you check the oil level. You have far too little oil now. And you didn't change the oil in the converter, or the oil cooler. so this is exactly how not to do it
Hey! Man you did not drain the torque converter fluid, so that was not a good example to show people, please know what you are doing before you make videos like this, it is very misleading and dangerous! 🤔👎👎👎👎👎
