Out of all the players we lost from 09 (Damon, Matsui, Cabrera, Hairston, etc) I miss Damon the most. He was a great, great leadoff man and his double steal in game 3 of the 09 Series will never be forgotten.
3:30 I'll never forget watching John Wetteland jump into Joe Girardis arms after Charlie Hays caught the final out of the 1996 World Series. That moment is one of the greatest memories of my life. 20 years of frustration over. All of the memories of the 96 Series (Cone, Pettitte, and Key pitching brilliantly, the 6-0 comeback rally in Game 4 that turned the series around, Jimmy Leyritz capping it off with his 3 run game tying hr, Girardis triple in Game 6) are summed up in that moment.
Cool video for sure. Could have been a bit longer with Brosius HR in '98 that changed that series, the final outs of the '98, '99 and 2000 Series. Jeter's leadoff HR in 2000. So many moments but a great job nonetheless.
Remember, to get A-Rod the Yankees had to give up Alfonso Soriano, who, at the time, was the best second base prospect in baseball and looked like the real deal. Granderson also came via trade, giving up prospects.
Buying a player is when you give them an offer that they cant resist. Granderson could have gone to other teams, hes only making 10 million right now which is not alot at all for a player of his caliber. Alex Rodriguez came to the yankees through a trade because the rangers could not afford him, they did not offer him anything. Teixeira is making 20 million, however other teams like the red sox were offering him great amounts also. So maybe he was "Bought" ( all teams do that) (continued next)
Well....Jeter and Cano both came up from the Farm system... didn't buy them at all. Mariano Rivera came up from the farm system, Alex Rodriguez was traded to the yankees since they were the only team that could afford him, so maybe you could classify that as "Buying him" Maybe. The most crucial guys to the yankees success over the past 20 years have been from the farm system. Jeter, Cano, Mariano rivera, Bernie Williams, Andy Pettite, and more. ( continued in next reply)
not trying to hate or anything but do the Yankees buy all their players? Seriously they got Jeter Granderson Cano and other power hitters. I guess cause it's a big city and theyre rich.
@hollingstihl Tigers didn't own the Yankees in 2011. The series went the distance and they hung on to win the last game by 1 run. Oh and the Tigers lost in the WS and lost in the ALCS, so they have nothing to brag about.
To all those complaining the Yankees buy everyone, look at the roster. Teixiera-bought Cano- minor leagues Rodriguez- trade (Soriano) Jeter- minor leagues Martin- low interest FA Gardner- minor leagues Swisher- trade (Betemit) Granderson- trade (Jackson/Kennedy) Sabathia- bought Kuroda- unknown FA Hughes- minor leagues Pettitte- minor leagues Pineda- trade (Montero) Nova- minor leagues Rivera- minor leagues Soriano- bought Chavez/Ibanez/Jones- FA, not alot of interest around the league
I never said Yankee fans Didn't troll and I never said they were the classiest fans. Keep making up more stories while you're at it. So I await your next one. You never even told me what team your a fan of.
On the enitre 25 man roster, the Yankees have 3 big name free agent signings, which is not outrageous around the league. The Yankees either brought up or traded talent to get the roster they have. The 'buying championships" argument is non existant.
Haha and boston fans think that the Red Sox are superior than all of these amazing moments, memories, and history!! Lmao. Chills the entire video! They're just jealous!!!
@hollingstihl I by no means am one of those fans. Like you, I also hate it when other Yankee fans bring up 26 championships. By the way, the bigger Joke are the people who hate the Yankees. Because they do nothing but whine whine whine whine.
