All these years later, still my two favorite games I ever watched, any sport. The enormity of it. Knowing that this went so far beyond being just a game. Game 7 may not have ended how I wanted, but games 4 and 5 were everything at that time.

Ditto to all of that. The Tino and Brosius belief-defying homeruns were the two most magical baseball moments I've ever witnessed. In fact, they're the reason for the "24" and "18" in my basically universal username.

The Tino and Brosius homeruns were unlike anything else I've ever witnessed. Because of that, the "24" and "18" in my username are for those players. I just wish they'd used the Yankee radio feed for those homeruns in this video - especially for the Brosius one. Immediately after finishing his classic "It is high! It is far! It is gone!" John Sterling reflexively shouted out the four words that I, my brother, and probably most Yankee fans shouted at that exact moment: "I DON'T BELIEVE IT!" I mean, seriously, to have the exact same season-saving thing happen, down to their last out in back-to-back World Series games? To this day, 22 years later, it's hard for me to comprehend.

#1 there is no such thing as a coincidence. #2 free masons control baseball and how the scripts work, this series has so much satanic symbolism in it, especially considering it happened right after 9/11. If you don’t believe me, pay attention to small details, players #s on jerseys, the count of an at bat, how many runners on, how many outs, how many pitches thrown, the players average per game (1-3/ 2-4) the time it happens, the predictive programming the media gives you, Jeter hits his home run right after they play bell chimes after midnight in November. Just think about it.

The game 6 ass-kicking by the DBacks was one of the most impressive "bounce-back" performances I've ever seen in sports. A lot of teams would've folded after those heartbreaking losses in NY, but the DBacks had a determined veteran team. After I saw that laugher and that it would be Schilling-Clemens the next game, I knew we were in for a classic game 7.

I am an old life long Red Sox fan. I've never hated anything in sports as much as the Yankees. But after September 11th, I actually rooted for the Yankees for the 1st and only time in my life. Those Games 4 and 5 in Yankee Stadium were beyond incredible. Never before or since have I felt emotion and electricity in sports like I did during those 9th inning comebacks. For me it literally felt like a supernatural experience. I was convinced God had decided to carry the Yankees to victory because New York had suffered so terribly only 2 months earlier. So then comes Game 7. The best closer in baseball history is on the mound. And the Yankees proceed to lose in excruciating fashion on a broken bat flair off the handle. I was stunned and crushed. I couldn't believe it. The one fucking time I root for the Yankees and they collapse in heartbreaking Red Sox fashion. In brought back all the bad memories from, 1975, 1978 and 1986. Looking back on this 20 years later and it still blows me away. Those games in Yankee Stadium were for me, the pinnacle of baseball. That entire series was truly epic.

This is an overly simplistic take. This Yankee roster had won the previous THREE World Series (and five of six pennants). Let that sink in for a moment. Now, let's go over the rest of it, (sports arguments are dumb, so I'll keep it brief) Johnson and Schilling weren't just in their prime, they were also SCORCHING hot and started 5 of the 7 games in the Series. And somehow, some way it still took a Murphy's Law blown save in the bottom of the 9th of Game 7 for the D'Backs to win it. The better team? LOL. The '96-'01 Yankees are perhaps the greatest team there ever was.

@@TTundragrizzly They were old and outplayed but still went into the bottom of the 9th of Game 7 with the lead. End of story. Mariano’s bad throw, Jeter’s injury on the play, Brosious putting a double play ball in his back pocket and Luis Gonzalez’s dunker with the infield in with a hobbling Jeter trying to go back on it all culminated in Arizona winning it by the skin of their teeth. Amazing. Any one of those anomalies goes the other way and the Yankees win their fourth straight World Series and five in six seasons. I’m glad it didn’t happen otherwise you clearly would’ve offed yourself long ago, simp.
